  • this is the somewhere in tour

  • GET AOUTTA HERE!!!! MR. MCBRAIN JUST DA BEST, EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • its funny that you can here him sing his licks through out the drum solo i mean here is the thing and everybody can agree or disagree on is this it dosent matter how fast or slow you go you can have a big kit or a small kit and i seen nicko use both its what he produces on the kit to me nicko and i will put phil collins on that bill to its a work of art its like a painter showing off his work and they teach you that you dont have to be flashy just keep in beat

  • Why you fucked up Nicko's playing with those special effects??

  • @VlaDuZa He has no living chance against mcbrain.

  • nicko mcbrain has a unique style that no other drummer has just like IRON MAIDEN they have their own style no other band has they dont make great metal songs they make amazing metal songs thats the difference the way nicko plays is just incredible his style is so sweet his timing being really technical and fast is not everything specially in music the greatest drum beats arent that technical. NICKO THE BEST just like maiden!!!

  • one...bass...drum o.O

  • Fantastic solo

  • great drummer but i still prefer clive burr for maiden , just like i still prefer paul di anno over bruce dickinson , best album with bruce in my opinion is not with maiden but a solo album called chemical wedding !

  • Yeeeeeeeeee yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 0:00 - 0:03 Thumbs up

  • This band doesn't tour enough :(

  • Wtf 01:13 Did i get high? ;o

  • lol why are the Iron Maiden fans such fanboys?

  • Dave is in my opinion the greatest trash-drummer ever. He eats Ulrich for breakfast. Nicko is one(!) of the greatest drummers in the universe, especially I love his one-foot-technique. But still there are many much better drummers in Earth, you know, like Scott Travis (Judas Priest), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), etc. I love Iron Maiden, and Nicko's great, but still I think that there are many better players out there.

  • @MrTOMBB4

heh couldnt say it bether myself :P..Portnoy is a legendar drummer, mb the best of em all :P, and Travis the most underrated drummer, hes very tight drummer - Judas really needed him and he suits em very well, sure alot of other drummer out there spec from the trash movement that are as good as this 2 though ;)

  • @00wille19 Heh, hell yeah you're right :-)

  • @MrTOMBB4

Mike Portnoy said in an interview something to the effect of Nicko playing 10 tastful drum part for every one of his own ;)

  • Talk about Single Pedal . Free youtube porn here !

  • Hey guys¡ Each drummer has his own techniques and skills, all depends in the way in the way that you like it or not, some are faster than others or have different techniques, do you have my point?. O.K. Then don´t discuss about if some are better than the others, if you feel good when you heard them it´s O.K that´s what music is made of, for having fun not to fight

  • 1:02 WTF With that cymbal???

  • @BalamMusic In the cymbals, the center part , makes other sound, .. each cymbal have 3 o 4 sounds

    ( sorry , im spanish , i dont speak very well )

  • @XabiAandRoryG you forgot portnoy.

  • @VlaDuZa Well, I don't listen to slayer, but I'm pretty sure Lombardo is good...

Anyways, Iron Maiden is one of the best Heavy Metal bands, all because they all have talent..

  • @OcarinaOfDarkness

yeah Iron Maiden is an amazing band and each member is awesome. When it comes to bands I don't give a fuck about technique and it's about personal taste. But if we're talking about a drum solo or something that shows only one member the technique does matter. Hey it's not really surprising Dave is stronger, he is counted as one of the best in the world and the only one who can be compared to him today is Joey Joridson.

  • @VlaDuZa: I'm going to have to disagree. I listened to Slayer years before I got into Maiden, and Nicko is better. Dave is great though, Him and Paul Bostaph have both been great drummers for Slayer.

  • @jozefthedick

dude, I don't think it's Nicko who is better in your opinion, you just like Iron Maiden better and every beat Nicko would play that fits to their style, will sound better for you. But individually? There is no doubt Dave Lombardo is better in terms of technique (both speed and usage of every part of his kit while playing) and creativity.

  • @VlaDuZa: I don't know. Like I said I like used to love Slayer they were my favorite band. The best drummer in my opinion is Neal Peart. I mean no offense though, this is just a friendly discussion. You gave me an idea. I will make a video with both a Dave drum solo, and a Nicko drum solo, and let our fellow youtuber decide who is better. lol

  • @jozefthedick

lol well that sounds like a great idea, let me know when u upload it!

  • @VlaDuZa: I uploaded it already, and peple left comments saying stuff like: wtf, and you can't compare the 2. So I deleted it. For the record, let's just say they are both fucking amazing drummers!!!

  • @jozefthedick

    haha agreed man!

  • @jozefthedick me to slayer was my favorite band before iron maiden now they are my second favorite i still love both bands to death though

  • @jozefthedick I think Nicko has that great jazz influence so he's better in that respect.

  • @VlaDuZa i don't agree, double bass drummers hide behind their double bass assault

  • @Jackiesstash08

not Dave Lombardo, if you read about him in Wikipedia, you will see that he also knows jazz beats and stuff like that. I don't like double bass drummers because they sound like a machine, but if some drummers play double bass, you know it's a specific drummer (and that it's a human being playing and not a machine), it's like their drumming has a character. That's how you know if the drummer is good. In my opinion drummers like Dave, Lars, Joey and Nicko have it.

  • @VlaDuZa nicko doesnt play double pedal. im not sure if you meant that in your comment :P

  • @VlaDuZa Nicko mcbrain is far more creative than lombardo and if you are drummer you know that. lombardo just plays fast thrash double bass beats when nicko plays very proge kind of beats with single bass. im not bashing lombardo hes one of my fav drummers. but speed isnt allways everything

  • @Huoha

I have a lot of friends who play the drums and they all say Lombardo's beats are tougher than Nicko's.

Watch some of Dave's presentations at Drum Clinic and tell me if you think he just plays fast thrash beats.

  • @VlaDuZa im talking about what he plays on the records.. SLAYER records. and well its about drummers stamina if he can play fast or not so that may make it harder. im not starting fight but to me lombardos beats is much more straightforward than nicko's. but ye different kinds of music so no comparing

  • @VlaDuZa i´m agree with this guy, nicko is an awesome drumer, but dave lombardo is better, he has more technique and a lot more speed.

there´s no reason to get angry, as one of you said, this is (or was) a friendly discussion :)

  • @jfpbman

technique and speed mean little. Listen to Nickos phrasing, creativity and feel. He is not a speed guy and his technique is very loose and natural for a metal drummer. I think he is a fish out of water, personally....his style is best suited for rock, r&b, blues, even some types of jazz!

  • Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo, Rod de'Ath and Ginger Baker are the greatset

  • Of course in the DVD there are the effects too, of course the effects shows that this is a video taken in the 80's, because it was the fashion of this period. And of course it messed the video itself!!!

  • I have this very rare DVD (lucky me?), it's called Super Drumming Vol 1 from Pete York. This was the rally of the best and most known drummers of the moment between '86 and '87. Billy Cobham, Louie Bellson, Bill Bruford, Dave Mattacks, Nippy Noya (Percussions), Ian Paice (Deep Purple), Simon Phillips, Cozy Powell (RIP man), Freddie Santiago (Percussions) Zak Starkey, Pete York himself and of course... Mr Nicko Mc Brain performing this solo and a live song with John Lord (Deep Purple's Keyboard)

  • one of the best drummers alive besides Don Brewer

  • me sorprende la velocidad de nicko con solo un pedal!! pensé q esos efectos solo se obtenian con doble pedal o con doble bombo!!!

    Grande Nicko CTM!!!!!!!!! lml

  • Gotta love 80's editing lol

  • Jesus Christ he has to have the fastest single peddle out there, phenomonal drummer

  • He looks so young... :D

  • too fast o.o . great solo :D

  • thanks for fucking the video up with the special effects.....Nicos the best pure drummer out there

  • @oquatanzenwan: I wish I could find a copy of this video without those effects.

  • @oquatanzenwan Pure drummer? wtf does that mean? Thats like saying pure guitarist.

  • Haha good old 80's special effects! That would have been heaps cool back then

  • Reminiscent of YYZ, but still fucking Awesome!

  • great drum solo

  • difficult-yes good-ehhhh better thn travis barker-YES!!!!! neal peart-NOT!!!!!!AT!!!!!!ALL!!!!!!!!!!

  • shitty effects make this video bad ...

    but nicko still great !

  • i knew nicko was a beast drummer but holy shit!!!!! o.o

  • and you call double bass drummers awesome... now THIS is real drumming...

  • Single kick baby.... !

  • che piovra ahahahah

  • single kick aswell

  • I really impressed and amazed by your amazing drumming talent, Nicko!!!!

  • I personally rather enjoyed the little "acid" moment! I AM stoned right now though! HA!!! NICKO IS AWESOME!!!

  • amazing!!!! nicko is best!

  • is that single stroke roll at 1:01 ? how did he do that? it sounds completely cool

  • @dwilmer7 they are triplets, look at rhythms of the beast and he explains it quite well.

  • What's with the shitty video effects?

Great drum solo, wanna learn this.

  • @DaveRelph001: Whoever released this video on VHS back in the 80's thought it was a good idea. That's all I know. It does take away from the awesome performance Nicko gives us.

  • @jozefthedick Yeah, I mean it's completely unnecessary.

  • drpeppero3 is right, Nicko uses a bare footed technique that allows him to hit the bass A LOT faster with only one pedal. He's even stated before that a double pedal is "un-Drummerish".

  • @ThePigzOnTheWing: He has only went bare foot since around 2003 though.

  • @jozefthedick

Indeed, he actually played wearing western boots and whatnot. Pretty crazy ;p

  • @jozefthedick He used to wear boxing style shoes, I think.

  • ok, you can tell someone that doesnt know Maiden... HE USE'S ONE FOOT..not a double bass...dumb ass

  • @metaldrummer4444 he have newer used double pedal

  • dream drum kit, sonor signature

  • awesome solo!!!! and he never use double bass drum pedal!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • no he doesnt. he uses a dw 9000 single from 1996.

  • I thought he was still using Ludwig L201 SpeedKing.

  • nar he uses a dw 5000

  • dw 5000

  • @metaldrummer4444 oh no he doesn't

  • He sure doesn't. Only did on one Maiden song ever.

  • yeah, he's a single basser and he's very good at heel toe technique.

  • @metaldrummer4444

Nicko McBrian plays a traditional left foot HH, right foot BD without a double pedal or double bass drum setup.

  • hes a god he doesnt have to use a dbl pedal

  • yo pienso que nicko es el mejor en uso de pedal simple eso no me cabe duda, solo hay que escuchar dream of mirror, caught somewhere in time, fortunes of war, out the silent planet, wicker man y ghost of the navigator para darse cuenta de eso y entre otros...

  • Interesting, tasty, nuanced, high energy, great drum and cymbal tone, and good dynamics. You're never aware of how good his technique is because the ideas come first. Very enjoyable and devoid of rockstar vanity. (I've played my share of long stadium drum solos.)

  • @roccovaselino

Nicko is definitely dynamic and sound first, technique and showmanship second. He also has linear combination abilities that alot of intermediate ( gigging rock drummers for example) don't seem to have a great grasp of.

  • Comment removed

  • Nicko was also a drummer in "Super Drumming" which was broadcast on German TV.

  • Hey Jozef, Nicko did another guest appearance on that DVD. If you could find it and upload it, it would be great.

The DVD is called Pete York's superdrumming series. Nicko appeared on Vol. 2

    CHEERS!

  • @iuricastro22: I'll see if what I can do.

  • Thanks. There's an user here youtube, his username is FGordon, he has upload one of Nicko's performances and he told me about that other performance, I asked him to upload it. He said he will do it, but it has been months and he hasn't done it. :(

  • I can't seem to find the video that the performance is from. It's available on DVD though. But even if I bought it, I wouldn't be able to rip it onto my computer to post it here on Yoututbe.

  • Don't worry. I wasn't asking you to buy it :D

You could send a message to FGordon to upload that other performance, though. :D I don't want to bother him AGAIN. haha

  • Lol, I'm probably gonna buy it, 'cuz I want it though. I'm a huge collector of Maiden related material. But yeah, I'll ask that dude about it. Hopefully he will upload it for us.

  • Cool! I was thinking about buying it too, since I'm a drummer. Thanks a lot, dude!

  • hey, what the name of that dvd you guys were talking about, i love Nicko and Maiden and this sound like it would be really cool to get.

  • Pete York's Super Drumming is the name of the DVD, I'll send you a message with a link for it.

  • Nicko's the best. I love how he sings what he's playing.

  • iron maiden is the hardest metal band the world its true

  • one of the best metal drummers, he could presumbly play in a jazz band.

He did play for Phil Collins.

  • He also played with the Pat Travers Band, which had some Jazz to it.

  • @ulizinho When did Nicko play for Phil Collins?

  • Hi, I am not quite sure about that, I must admit. But I remember an interview, I guess in Metal Hammer, in the eighties, in which he told about his drumming. He said, that he admires Phil Collins and I somehow have in mind that he played on his tour. better google it.

  • I will google it, but I must say I've never heard of that. I'm a big fan of Nicko and I've read a lot about him and never heard of that. Still, cheers for answering me.

  • thanks

I was a bit too fast with my presumption about Phil, anyway, you may inform me, when yo have found something about it.

    cheers !

  • Yeah,, I'm pretty sure Nicko never played with Phil Collins, at least not in an album.

Btw, I loved that video of Great quotes you have on your favorites :D

  • he surely did not play on an album, Phil was good enough for that (Nicko himself that he could compete with Phil)

what quotes do you mean ?

    those atheists quotes ?

I like them. The shyt is, that I problably will work as a teacher for a fucking catholic church coz I need fucking money. I hope I can get out of that sooner or later. No more lies.

  • he prolly played on a tour.

  • If he did, it was probably on a tour, yeah.

  • @ulizinho

Phil Collins is a terrific drummer.

  • Simplemente Increible!

  • omg what a power...

  • wtf at 1:18 lol

  • Nikko FTW!!!

  • He makes drum singing...

  • He is My favorite Drummer of ALL TIME!

I adore his style because it's so colorful!

  • hmmm, Nicko or Clive, they're both so fucking good!!!!!

  • @mikerowe234

Yea, that's right. Clive and Nicko are both great drummers, but, Nicko is a little better, in my opinion.

  • My favorite drummer. this man has influenced many people.

  • hey man...not many people can claim to play better single bass better than niko cuz nicko really rips it up with a single bass pedal...and about clive burr(the drummers from teh killers album)..please show some respect. both nicko and clive are great drummers...

  • aim en!

  • haha u dont even know clive's name and u think hes better than nico....loll retard

  • Honestly: I love maidenz, but I hate his playing!

But i have to say that Nicko has a wonderful technical approach, he has a great control of the sticks and a full use of the Moeller technique; I see him some years ago ... he was impressive!!!!

  • Awesome! My favorite drummer!

You gotta love the shitty 80's visual effects as well!
