Now I love the Challenger, it truly is a nice looking car, but the SRT8 is around 100 hp more than the Mustang and it hits around the same exact 0-60 time, that's some pretty crappy time considering the Mustang still has yet to get the new 5.0. Don't forget that the SRT8 costs around 45k, while the GT is only about 33k. We might as well match prices and bring out the GT500 if that's the case.

I mean other than the fact that there's a $15k or so difference between them there's really not much to make up between them right? The GT makes 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, the GT500 makes it in 4.6 seconds, so is it really worth a whole new model just to bridge the difference between that half a second? If this happened i would want a more powerful GT500 and the Mach1 to take the specs of current GT500
Yes. Because the only reason the Shelby GT500 doesn't hit 4.2 0-60 is because of traction. It traps about 117 in the 1/4 and a mustang does about 105. So, something that can trap about 111 mph with around 400hp and cost 40K would be perfect.
What if they added the Mach1 idea as a package you could add to GT mustangs? Ford has already announced the new Coyote engine will go into 2011 GTs so what if they added Mach1 as a package that upgraded the body and some interior aspects, re-cam the engine and swap exhaust for a more raw performance orientation and swap the rear end for a more heavy duty performance rear

yeah, the 3.73 gears is what keeps the GT competing with the SS, there's a 100hp difference but the GT is geared to use its power better, SS has around 3.43 gears or so its not bad but its no 3.73
I think Ford needs to do something with the rear suspension if not switch to IRS, thats part of the reason the Camaro gets better grip, its suspension digs in a lot better, if the 2011 Mustang had the 5.0, 6-speed, wider tires, and some way to keep the rear planted i think it'd be back on top

I was doing some research on the 2011-12 gt500 and 11's are getting an aluminum block to reduce weight. The 12's might be getting the TT 5.0 to make over 600hp.

Engine size isn't everything and the mustang has proven that. Now I love the Challenger, it truly is a nice looking car, but the SRT8 is around 100 hp more than the Mustang and it hits around the same exact 0-60 time, that's some pretty crappy time considering the Mustang still has yet to get the new 5.0. Don't forget that the SRT8 costs around 45k, while the GT is only about 33k. We might as well match prices and bring out the GT500 if that's the case.

The R/T Challenger is a whole 1.1L larger in engine displacement than the 4.6L GT Mustang, yet isn't even a second faster in the 1/4 mile. Also, the GT500 is faster than the SRT8 Challenger. yeah but the 6.1 costs about $10k more than a mustang GT so your point is lost, and the shelby's 'mere' 5.4 litres puts out 550 bhp and over 500 lbs of torque SRT8 is about 425bhp, and if you supercharged an SRT8 it would cost more than a Shelby and still be a bloated lard ass tank of a car, and road tests ive read have said that the challenger is hard work through the slalom so i dont know why you think its better, and ....................................

Its a neat idea to entertain but i gotta ask, is there much room to gap between the GT and GT500? I mean other than the fact that there's a $15k or so difference between them there's really not much to make up between them right? The GT makes 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, the GT500 makes it in 4.6 seconds, so is it really worth a whole new model just to bridge the difference between that half a second? If this happened i would want a more powerful GT500 and the Mach1 to take the specs of current GT500

Yes. Because the only reason the Shelby GT500 doesn't hit 4.2 0-60 is because of traction. It traps about 117 in the 1/4 and a mustang does about 105. So, something that can trap about 111 mph with around 400hp and cost 40K would be perfect.

What if they added the Mach1 idea as a package you could add to GT mustangs? Ford has already announced the new Coyote engine will go into 2011 GTs so what if they added Mach1 as a package that upgraded the body and some interior aspects, re-cam the engine and swap exhaust for a more raw performance orientation and swap the rear end for a more heavy duty performance rear
I could really get into that idea, it'd give you that middle ground performance for nearly GT Mustang prices

Well, if the coyote 5.0 is going into the new GT's then that's a waste of money for a Mach 1, and I guarantee Ford won't do a different cam package on a production vehicle. A 400hp regular GT is already going to have enough power to stomp a Camaro SS, given Ford has enough brains to give the GT some decent tires.
It will also require a better braking system with 400HP.
3.73 and track pack, 400HP and better brakes will destroy the camaro ss.

yeah, the 3.73 gears is what keeps the GT competing with the SS, there's a 100hp difference but the GT is geared to use its power better, SS has around 3.43 gears or so its not bad but its no 3.73
I think Ford needs to do something with the rear suspension if not switch to IRS, thats part of the reason the Camaro gets better grip, its suspension digs in a lot better, if the 2011 Mustang had the 5.0, 6-speed, wider tires, and some way to keep the rear planted i think it'd be back on top

I dont like brand allegiencies, i love all muscle whether Ford GM or Chrysler, but still i agree, Ford's rear ends have always been legendary, the 3.73 rear makes amazing use of the power unlike Chevy or Chrysler's 3.20s and 3.40s, and that live rear keeps the car cheaper so its a great choice to keep, im just wondering if the IRS makes for better grip during launches cause there was a comparison of the SS vs. the GT500 and the SS kept up cause the GT500's wheel spin during launches

Ok, after some research apparently the GT500 has IRS but people hate it cause its not a very good performance axle vs. Fords notorious live axles
ie:
Live rear = Superior straight line performance, stronger build/components, cheaper cost
IRS = Far better handling, more confortable ride, easier to live with on a day-to-day basis
Hell in that case id probly opt for a live axle over IRS, i can deal with a few bumps, my stage coach of a camaro never misses a chance to remind me of that LOL

The 2010 GT500 doesn't come with IRS bro. It just comes with a live axle. I fucking hate the IRS suspensions. They do give great gas mileage but horrible take off. The live axle is great on the new GT500's with handling. Most test magazines just dont know how to fucking drive anymore!
