It wouldn't matter even if Arnel could sing better because it boils down to much more than mere vocals. Steve Perry is the embodiment of sentiment when it comes to performing. Apart from his hauting, powerful vocals is a soul who brings to light the purpose and the passion of every song he took hold of. Steve could grab you by the scruff of your soul and make you feel what he was singing. Steve Perry was way more than a mere singer. Steve Perry was transcendent. Steve Perry was the music.
I am A HUGS Journey fan and most importanty Steve Perry. No one will ever replace him, but let's give Arnel some credits. First of all it takes TRUE GUTS to do what he is doing, knowing full well he would be help up to scrutiny. Sure, he isn't Steve, he's Arnel, but his voice beautiful. Never will it be Steve, nor should it ge. It's just his way of paying homage to Steve and group that has meant so much to all of us. Remember, think positive people, life is too short!
The whole freakin' point is that HE'S COPYING STEVE!!!!! I'm a professional singer/musician here in Chicago and it doesn't matter how well you "cover" someone else. It's still a cover. All of my fellow musicians in here will agree with me that, for us, Originality is an axiomatic and indespensible quality. Without it? You're just another cover, copycat and a wannabe. Steve IS the original.....period.

I think it's a BIG mistake to compare the two. Steve Perry is Steve Perry, and Arnel is Arnel. It was a phenomenal run for Steve in Journey, but health issues sidelined the singer, and you have to admit, to maintain the standard and level of singing he had to do night after night on tour would burn vocal chords out. If you listened to his last entry in Journey, Trial By Fire, you could tell his voice was worn out and so was he. He had to move on, it was time. Arnel is good in his own right.

I think "It's Just The Rain" was about as high as he got. And, I figure, "When I Think of You" was tough for him to sing because it's about his mom and we all know how much he misses his mom! He and his voice may have matured, but he's still great! Love that man!!!!!!

Why would they redo the Steve Perry songs. Let Arnel Pineda make his own if they think he is so good. Arnel is ok, Steve was and always will be "the Voice" in my opinion. I was trying to find some of the real Journey and keep finding the old songs redone by Pineda.

Love Steve Perry! The closest singer to Steve is the lead singer from Rock Sugar - Jess Harnell - he's just incredible! Deen Castronovo was terrific too! Arnel may have the gig, but he doesn't have the voice, the inflections, the diction, or anything else that makes up a "real" lead singer for Journey.

Steve Perry is my favorite. always will be. on that note. it could be a lot worse, they could have a singer that sounds nothing like Steve. its happened with other bands. bottom line - this would be the best case senerio for replacing a lead singer. "old journey" is my favorite, but i would rather see journey live than no journey. lets look at the fact that they recognize Steve perry for what he did for the band. they realize it more that you. Steve perry still my favorite. don't rip my head off

Love Steve Perry! The closest singer to Steve is the lead singer from Rock Sugar - Jess Harnell - he's just incredible! Deen Castronovo was terrific too! Arnel may have the gig, but he doesn't have the voice, the inflections, the diction, or anything else that makes up a "real" lead singer for Journey.

Perry had surgery on his throat, he isn't coming back..I do fall into the 30-50 age group and grew up listening to Perry..fell in love for the 1st time to Open Arms, my sister got married to Faithfully..Arnel is awsome. And since there is no chance of Perry coming back, for personal and medical reasons, Let Jouney have their comeback with this amazing singer
