  • Monk отттягивается....

  • No one is sharper than Charlie Rouse.

  • YOU CAN SEARCH THE WORLD OVER PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE AND THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS THE SAME- MONK IS THE KING MAN!!

  • Trying to choose between Ben Riley and Frankie Dunlop is like trying to choose between your favourite flavour of Ben & Jerry's, or between your favourite blonde or brunette, or between...... {sigh} Great video, many thanks! Cheers, PtPP

    The Music

  • Charlie Rouse thow.... he's a man made of Harder Bark, ain't he.

  • Does anyone know what type of mode or scale or progression Mr. Charlie Rouse is playing specially in the beginning? So funky, incredible

  • Yeah

  • Seu estilo único, subversivo e percussivo é sem comparação.Monk é um dos grandes gênios do Jazz que funcionava em uma frequência diferente, mas acima de tudo, uma freqência superior.Pianista único e compositor dos mais originais...Monk é música !

  • oops, didn't see that. thank ya

  • pardon my ignorance... who is on sax? incredible.

  • @dontcarejeezwtf Charlie Rouse, as mantioned in description ;)

  • @dontcarejeezwtf

    Charlie Rose

  • @dontcarejeezwtf

    Charlie Rouse

  • This is wild! Not only does it have an ingenious little melody, but it swings like a motherfucker!

  • 100 likes and 0 dislikes - I really want to "like" it,' but I'm afraid of ruining the perfection.

  • @ArtD42 I know! its like pressing the big red button! ;)

  • @ArtD42 Just as I read this I realised that now it's 200 likes and 1 dislike!

  • Nobody dislikes this

  • BAILA MONK!!!!

  • Fact: the ratio between the "Likes" to "Dislikes" on this video up to today (May 1st 2011) is Infinity.

  • having been a jazz fan for many years..i still think monk reminds me of a jazz group playing while someone lets their toddler hit the keys...

  • @eleopoulos1

you must be a terrible jazz musician if you cant see the harmonies and rhythmic/percussive value in monks playing. im not saying you have to like bebop but give the man credit for being a damn good musician. he went to julliard, he knew what he was doing, and i bet he knew ignorant people like you would incessantly try to diminish his contribution to the jazz world.

  • thanks for posting this!

  • WOW is enough!

  • Rouse!!!

  • Good comments. The idea that this was his best band ever won't convince everyone, but how much better does it need to be??

  • I love how he get's up and starts walking around. Thelonious reminds me of Glenn Gould in a strange way!

  • @Ravel87 - He's actually dancing! He's swaying his body to the music and snapping his fingers to the beat. His dancing and his music are pretty much the same - interesting and quirky....but the GOOD kind of quirky. =)

  • @Ravel87 This is a brilliant comparison.

  • "You play what you want and let the public pick up on what you're doing - even if it does take them fifteen, twenty years." - Thelonious Monk.

  • i love this !!!

  • YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  • Frankie Dunlop: "Hello, I'll be your unbelievably badass drummer for the evening."

  • It must get hot on stage wearing an overcoat and hat.

  • Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but it's totally possible to listen to this song all day, on repeat, no complaints.

  • Jesus, that's a great drum solo.

  • Magnifique danse bebop de Monk à 2:45 ^^

  • Watch Monk's throat. They had to make special collars for that.

  • ooooooohhhhhhhh !! quel enculé !!!!

  • @ohrwurm Oops, I meant watch Rouse's throat. It's a "Mr. B" collar.

  • I needed this tonight...I am so fortunate to play with Butch.Forget 1963,Butch plays great now.Come hear him at Columbia Station in D.C.

  • I've watched this clip at least 100 times and somehow it keeps getting better!Monk used to say "Two is One". This is an example of "Four is One". This is the best group Thelonious ever had.If you built a car with a perfect engine, this is how it would run. This is the kind of music that gets me through life.It absolutely transcends crappy jobs, stupid people, inept and/or corrupt politicians, and the often idiotic lowlights of our modern culture.Anyway, thanks so much for posting this gem.Viva Monk!!

  • @postatility music makes the world go round, at least for some people.

  • @0live0wire0 Right On!!

  • What happened to Frankie Dunlop? Great Video. I like watching Monk dance.

  • @roadlizard123 thelonious , que grifa mas loca!

  • @roadlizard123 Dunlop's still alive and, presumably, well-- he is retired now, retired in '84. I think he's great, love this solo!
