  • Best Podcasting Microphone: RØDE Podcaster

  • @lolbin7 erm, serious how is this spam? sure I'm promoting my site, but it's totally in topic and to help ppl out

  • sounds terrible, it's a fake

  • retard

  • Good video !

If you didn't say which price you paid for this one, no one would have said it is a fake sm58.

I find the sound very good !

Which preamp do you use anon321 please ?

  • Have you done any noise removal on the audio of this video? I hear some artifacts.

  • as someone wanting to do podcasts and voice-overs- is this mic good foe just speaking into it or would a diferent mic be better? Does it plug straight into the computer or do I need some kind of extra thing to plug it into? I know nothing about mics im afraid :/

  • I am sorry to say this but I'm 80% sure this mic you're using is a fake. I know what an SM58 sounds like and this does not even come close. Too bad.

  • @alexn882 This is anon321, switched my account. This microphone has the Shure logo and number marking inside the XLR connector, comes with the clip, cable tie, shure sticker, carrying pouch, manual and warranty card. The box serial matches the microphone, weight matches the real one. I checked all the ebay fake guides and this one doesn't have any of the signs of a fake. It also does not sound in any way tinny - even when recorded straight out of sound card like in the video.

  • @alexn882 I've looked at a few more videos and the warranty card is fake - looks like you are right, this is a fake :/ - Doesn't sound half bad though!

  • best mic for podcasting -> T.Bone SC440... condenser mic with built in usb interface

  • okay, so i know nothing about microphones, but i've been getting into singing and im thinking about buying this mic. my lap top mic really sucks and it distorts loud noises. and my question is, can i just plug this mic into my lap top and use it as is? or do i have to get some other stuff to record?

  • Nearly all fakes on ebay I'm afraid

  • I got the SAME EXACT mic about two years ago. And in one year and a half time, it broke. I discovered recently by screwing the top off that the wires had been disconnected. I have not done anything to make that happen.

  • What is the webcam used for this presentation?

  • @0002591 It's a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro Webcam for Mac. It's advertised as 2 megapixels but I can't get videos over 640x480 with it :(

  • SM58 mics are commonly faked. For £30 off eBay it's definitely a fake, you won't pick up a real one for less than £80.

It is a helluva good mic though. Though you'd be more suited to a condenser mic for podcasting (but then you need phantom power).

  • @larenegUK I picked up a real one about two years ago for over $100 and it broke in a year and a half.

  • @larenegUK hmm, maybe it is a fake, but it sounds pretty good for a fake, wouldn't you agree? :)

  • if you got it from ebay its prob a FAKE. i got a fake from ebay 2 years ago..go search on google.

  • SM58 FUCKING RULES for EVERYTHING ! Recording, Live Live-Recording, miking an amps, drums, lead vocals

  • How do you connect it to a computer is it just a line in or do you need something else?

  • Condenser mics are better, Better at picking up background noise and vocal popping /essing. They are a studio mic and so work best in a studio environment where you can use a sound proof booth and pop shield and going through a good mixing desk with good preamps. For home use podcasting i too would prefer the sure sm58.

  • Nice video, very usefull and honest.

  • you ought to try a large diaphragm condenser mic, like an SE2000 or a Rode NT1-A or even a Studio projects B1, They are excelent mics.

The Shure sm58 is the Industry standard of Live reinforcement mics, its pop filter and linear frequency response are just kick ass!

  • @crackshotnoodles I have both the rode NT1-A and the B1, as well as an SM57 and a Rode M1 (a lot like the beta 58 in sounds pattern) and I'm a podcaster (hardcore Christian media Cast, if you care) and I can definitely say the rode is the best sounding mic I own. I've shopped around a lot and use them all for different situation, but for vocals I say go Rode

  • @chibisven for studio definatly! any LDC is better in the studio over a dynamic mic!

if i could afford Neumann i would :P

  • @crackshotnoodles

    i mean for vocals*

  • Hi there! Thanks for making this video and showing us the mic. It's been really useful for me to hear it so clearly because I was/am in fact thinking about buying both the EMU 0404 and the Shure SM58 (although I have been told that the SM 58 S version, with the on/off switch is worth the added functionality). I think the sound is really really excellent (and the room sound quiet and clean)!

It would be really nice to see and hear you podcasting with this setup :-)

    Cheers from Spain!

  • Great quality! =]

  • While this mic sounds good, I still think the Samsung C03U, also USB, sounds better. Great vid nonetheless! Keep em' coming!

  • have you ever been thought about a condenser mic for podcasting?
