  • the compression completely destroyed the quality

  • I miss Brisbane so much :(

    nice video btw

  • Im shooting in a club for a friends party tonight and have my flash and lights loaned out right now. Any advice on some settings to achieve half-way decent images/video. Using a mark ii with a prime 35mm 1.4

  • @xtidwellx1 You'll probably have to shoot wide open at 1.4. Will make for some interesting images if you're good at focus. Otherwise you might have to resort to shutter speeds slower than 1/60th (which will make the images blurry in movement). Good luck!

  • what are the 3 white dots flying on the sky on 00:06?

  • @mariafranciska09 They are reflections of the headlights on the street.

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • Love the shot at 1:20!

  • Oh. That is traffic up on the hill? 3/4 the way up the screen looks like it is coming out of the street light

  • @Art543 No - its the same headlights that are on the street, just reflected inside the lens.

  • Oh. That is traffic up on the hill?

  • What was that at 10 sec , looked like coming from street light

  • @Art543 You mean the lights in the sky? Poor quality zoom lenses often reflect bright light points at the diagonally opposite side of the frame. Its the reflection of the driver with his high beam lights on.

  • Overall it's a very good quality video. But why it is a little jerky? Because of a slow memory card?

  • @yur0k Source material is a solid 30fps, no dropped frames. Must be playback issues.

  • man ur night shots look great... I record in 1080 / 30 and I cant seem to get my videos to upload without that crazy color blurr... it's weird.. what settings did you export this movie in?

  • @omone00 I just exported as an mp4 with a similar bitrate to the original. The blur might be coming from poor conversion by youtube from another file format, or too much compression in your original (youtube will always recompress).

  • Nice vid! Just bought myself one of those beauty, not only that, I live in Brisbane . Kudos

  • Nice Video. What lense you used with the Canon 5D mark ll

  • Beautiful video, what a treat! Can you comment on the ISO settings and picture style used for the HD video? Much appreciated.

  • wonderfull video with beautifull background music welldone yarnmaker

  • great job!

  • what music is that?

  • looks edited can u do a video editing tutorial?

  • How high can the bit rate go for this canon? I looked everywhere on the net and can't get a clear answer. My hf m30 shoots up to 24p. Looking to upgrade.

  • Brisbane <3. well done.

  • Had to come watch it again! Beautiful! 5*'s!

  • I like the night shooting and I like that you did some with the 50mm f1.4. I just did a series on 5D Filmmaking and one clip is all about the 50mm f1.4. Cheers.

  • What did you use to put the video together, did you use a software? Thanks! =D Great Video!

  • @MyBestBUDDYIsAGoat Thanks for the comment. I used Vegas Pro 9, 64 bit version.

  • Brisbane! :D

  • which lens do you use?

  • @GIORGOSGUNIT I'm actually trying not to buy into Canon EF mount lenses for film work as PL mount cameras will soon be out I think. I hire lenses in the mean time. I like the 28-70mm f 1.4 and a 70-200mm f.14 IS for dolly work. See my reply to kespi below for lenses used in this clip.

  • what lens or lenses were used??

  • @kespi I'd say 90% of that was shot on a junky 28-105 f4.5. Just shows how great the camera is in low light. Additional shots were with a 50mm f1.4.

  • Excelente video, musica, edición, calidad de la mk2, muy bien editado, muy profesional!!

  • Enjoyable, I like the transitioning ( hopefully that's a word ).

  • I think she's sneezing at 1:43.

  • @joelcathey Had a big lol at this, nice catch! I think you're right! Never spotted it before.

  • why is the picture quality more better looking than the xlh1a/xlh1s and those are 5k an up cameras.

  • @7milejog

Cause the 5D Mk2 is the future.

  • @7milejog

Because the 5D Mk2 is amazing piece of equipment.

  • Great video. What music is playing in background?

  • nice shot at 2:24 of the shadows. Curious to know what lenses you shot with?

  • @4styler Just added lens info to the description - sorry for not spotting this sooner!

  • one word..PERFECT :)

  • Awesome footage, the shot of the moon over the historic building was fantastic.

  • music?

  • @NationalProduction Sorry dude, I forget - will try to find it for you. It's a royalty free number we paid for in the past.

  • what lens did you used?

  • @profgerwinmeneses: Good question! What lens did you use yarn?

  • @PostBox12345 Hi guys - I just added lens info to the description.

  • incredible low noise. superb camera!

  • was this shot at 30 or 25p?

  • @abc123cooly It was 30p. There was no 25p firmware when this was shot.

  • ...is this Brisbane? I noticed the XXXX sign and then the Ferris wheel came up. Awesome!

  • @Halkod Got it in one. ;-) Bit of a giveaway though!

  • que son esas luces que salen al principio UFO? OVNIS?

  • nice capture of Brissie!!

  • it is not that clear right? my video too i use 24-105mm and it has noise in my video it is not clear. I dont know the camera or i dont know to use it

  • perth?

  • awesome thank you

  • Can't wait to buy that camera, damm money!

  • It records video as well? :O nice.

  • i could find some use of this video if i'd knew what aperture and lenses were used.

    would appreciate that information :)

  • I've wanted this camera for a while. Anyone know a good first workhorse lense for the 5D Mark II? I'm looking to buy one and I need advice.

  • get the 1200mm with a 2x extender. :]

  • @LaneLIpro you can usually find it in a kit with 24-105 L IS which is a great all round lens

  • ahh love cities at night, the way everything shine and can make you feel home :)

  • @morroti unless of course you live in a rural area ;)

  • hey what music is this!? thanks,

    Joey

    GREAT FRICKING VIDEO!

  • yarnmaker, amazing video!

  • it' amazing. The colours and lines are as much clear as a HD camcorder!

  • Incredible footage. The shot at 1:19 with the moon is amazing. I love the footage this camera is putting out. I like the size and the fact that people probably assume you're just snapping photos.

  • @Nihilism13: Glad you picked up the moon. ;-) Few people see it.

  • I would trade my car for this camera lol

  • can you please tell me the name of that song please???

  • Good luck trying to get an HD camcorder to absorb as much light as the 5D in videos. And the depth of field on this thing is like wow.

  • awful dynamic range, codec, features, and sound though xdcam ex1is better.

  • well.. I guess one can survive with only one kidney. :)

  • Do you have to change the virtual ASA to get these night shots, or does it do it on automatic?

  • It did it automatically - the night shots are WELL within the range of the camera. I should point out that the firmware has now been updated, bringing manual controls. But this wasn't the case when this clip was shot.

  • The quality is still pretty great and noise-free considering all the options you said it selects automatically in your review. (ISO, etc.)

  • Wow, the lowlight preformance is amazing. I recently bought a Panasonic AG HMC 150. Although I'm satisfied. This camera's quality is equal or better and it costs $1,000 less. Only thing the 150 has over this is Audio controls, inputs/outputs/ looks. I can't imagine showing up to film a wedding with a still SLR. They would be like, "I thought you said you were a videographer."

  • photobygillilan: I am using Final Cut Studio 3 / Final Cut Pro 7 with 5D mark II. I like the software very much. My recommendation: If you don't have a Mac to run the software, get a Mac now (the faster the better, but entry level Macs work (Macbook, Mac mini), high investment for Mac Pro is not necessary if you can live with some waiting time with video rendering). What you get for what you pay ratio is with FCP 7 very high (IMHO), about the same as with Logic Studio (excellent value).

  • Why would someone buy an entire computer just to use one piece of video editing software? lol ...especially if you're talking about a 1500-2000 dollar investment At Least!

Keep your PC, get After Effects which is miles better in terms of video editing AND it does advanced compositing if you're into making movies or 3D animations, works with most Photoshop filters, does special effects and camera tracking in 3D, etc.

Get that and a fast PC for $800 and save your money.

  • the quality is good. but honestly, i hate that DSLRs actually add that video shit feature. i thought they were just rumors. Technology is eating everything. maybe someday they will invent eyecorder.

  • i say one thing people keep saying its camera not camcorder but hello... what u can do with this camera u cant do with camcorder specially when u talking about depth of field i say dsl rocks it had just change the way we use camcorders...

  • very nice colour!.....i was very close to buying this camera, but ended up getting canon xlh1 and use a letus adaptor for the depth of field..........but the 5d must be super portable yes?.........i got to carry a hell of alot of gear!....anyway nice video!

  • What is the name of the song and band?

  • What did you use to edit this video? I have a 5D M2 (two of them I love it so much) and am just now getting into the video function... The manual adjustments in the latest firmware is a must!

  • You remind me of the guy in the comic book shop in the Simpsons. Im a d.p and wtf is wrong with asking what software he edited this on??

  • photobygillilan: Sorry, I didn't see your question until now. This was edited on Sony's Vegas Pro. However, forget Vegas Pro for HD editing unless you have a 64 bit machine - while I was on 32 bit, the renders would crash after the projects grew to a certain complexity/size. No such problems with 64 bit.

  • very good video, tnx

  • which lense do you use?

  • WOW. this camera is truely amazing. I took a photography class back in high school, and loved it. I'm in the U.S. Army now, but i get out after my upcoming deployment. One thing i'll definatly be saving for is this SLR. AMAZING! truely amazing. especially with the breath taking quality. I'm going to be going to school when i get back and start taking photography again at RCC, and maybe some at calstate san bernardino afterwards. it's something that just interests me. how'd you do that lighting?

  • You can tell theres no lighting just very high iso

  • great video, can you tell me the name of the song used in this video.

  • Little I knew, this camera ROCKS! wow.

I was waiting for GH-1, but since it has horrible and really bad jello/wobble effects, I'm getting 5D beast.

    Saving now..... incredible quality.

  • Yeh... i Had tested this Digital Cam for 2 days and the 35mm effect is indescribable... also in nightshot's is the brightness very very good... 5*

  • After watching your Video I got no words I am out of any word Its so Beautiful Extreme level of highly Great Job you have done I Just Loved your Video A lot keep on coming more please yeah I'll try to get this Camera if It will get into my budget for sure ;)

  • This is spectacular! I have 5dmk2 and I'm using 24-105 kit lens. Night performance with that lens desires to be better. What lens did u use?

  • Glad you liked it. Some shots feature the infamous Canon 50mm f1.4 Prime, but most are a boring old 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens. Pretty awful lens for night work, which shows how good the 5D *can* be at low light images. Now, if only we had manual controls ... :-)

  • sry but what for Objects are in the sky? Light poinst from right to left?

    spotlight?!? Planes?

  • It's lens element reflection. This is a common issue with bright points of light on a lens that is wide open, and is a typical fault to be expected with EOS 5D Mark II videos because of the cam's automatic-only setup pushes to the lowest F Stop possible. See my site for a discussion on the problems this cam has currently!

  • The video looks great. Love the depth of field. :D

Did the camera allows total manual control of the Shuter, Iso and Exposure?

I ask this, because some images from yout footage and other give me the impression that the camera make some compensations in the shutter speed or in the exposure.

    Hope you can Help me.

  • Hi, on the current firmware there are almost no manual controls and creative shooting is difficult. I have written about it in detail on my site: check the link on the right and find the EOS 5D article.
