If Hill had won the championship in 1994 I beleive he would now be a triple or quadruple world champion because Williams would not have dropped him for '97 and he would have been much more confident in '95.
Damon was great, he didn't have that arrogance that many drivers have.
He should have been a double world champion.
I remember watching the Suzuka race at 4am, and Murray Walker at the end saying "I've got to stop because I've got a lump in my throat" - it was very emotional.
I was 8 years old at the time. I was not aware of time difference and for my mind the race did not start till 12pm like normal. I woke up that morning to go to Sunday school, my nerves on edge I couldn't wait for the race to start. I get to Sunday school remembering I loved formula 1 said the teacher says. So you have seen the good news then?
huh?! Moment spoilt but at least it was good news!
Remember this so well... I was 16 at the time and this was probably the happiest moment of my life. Got up at 4 to watch it and when Jacques' tyre went I ran to my Mum's bedroom in tears (tears of joy of course!) to wake her up and tell her Damon was World Champion.
Remember 1996 so well. It was the first full season of F1 I watched as I was only 10 years old at the time. It was so brilliant watching Damon Hill triumph in Suzuka after a mid-season wobble. I haven't missed a race since. Great memories
I hope someone out there does know the name of the guitar music!!!! I have been trying to hunt it down for many years but cannot find anything. The video credits dont come up with anything and there is hardly any information on the internet.
And come on lay off the Hamster! He's a young guy and he's got time to learn. What world champion hasn't been public enemy at one point? lol (even Senna!) Hill was much more mature when he arrived in the sport. Lewis will have to learn things the hard way.
Hill wasn't supported all through the junior formulae like Lewis was - He had Mercedes/McLaren support all the way from Formula Renault upwards , so whilst Damon was more mature he hadn't had the same level of prior success and support in the same way that Lewis had
I was just too young to appreciate these days in F1. But for me, looking back this was probably the end of that golden period between 1988 and 1995. Watching Hill go around as the New Champ after the heartache of the previous 2 years with Murray's commentary is just magic.
Lewis Hamilton could win 10 titles and it wouls still mean nowhere near as much to me as Damon winning the title in Suzuka. For me Damon Hill is F1 and above all a human being , not a cold ruthless winning machine like so many drivers these days.
He was the reason I watched formula 1 and he shows why it is a quality sport. I've watched formula 1 all through these shite years of Schumacher winning all the time. Waiting for a British driver as good as him.
lewis is a fucking smug twat that only knows how to act like a cunt on telly.
Let me put it this way, you should only start you autobiography after you have finished your career. He is not a worthy champion, lacks sportsmanship & Kimi will pwn him and win 2008's championship!
+1 Hard work for years and years and years,he really fought for it. My fave world champion, even though others were more talented. I remember *that* crash with Schumacher- and they were both leaving the rest of the grid for dead. Great times.Great determination.

@Mcbain12 The only reason Williams dropped him anyway was because of money...

Im guessing where it says "special thanks to..." The Bruce McLaren it mentions doesn't mean the founder of McLaren team... cause he died in 1970's

The Moustachioed Messiah (Mansell) is my favourite and embodied the British Spirit more than any other driver.

damon hill had about as much charisma as a glass of water.

By your estimation then people like Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica are so dull and boring that they could barely tie their own shoelaces......

Lets not forget Damon was technically VERY good, he gets very little credit for helping developing such a dominant car for so many years.

Damon Hill never was a great driver, but he was a hard worker and I was really happy for him when he won the World Title in 1996.A true gentleman.

Muzza has made a lot of good last-lap speeches, but this has easily got the be the most emotional one he's ever done. Viva la Hill!
