  • I definately agree. I live in Australia and go to a private boys school. (not sure about overseas but asa rule each single sex school will mostlikely have a school nearby of the opposite sex)

Anyways, our sister school has so many girl who are scared to eat because they are scared of damage to their image.

Then there are people who are way too skinny and bony and then start eating celery sticks so they dont "get fat"

  • I agree

  • I have the same problem with my 12 year old sister she barely eats as it is (shes a picky eater) and doesnt have much at school either. she is very image conscious because of a lot of the media and their perception of what women should look like. I hope you can get to the root of this soon. Im hoping to get into the media industry when im finished college and i certinally will not be supporting size zero and all that bull. Health should be seen case by case not one big blanket solution

  • I think you're right to be worried about your daughter possibly developing an eating disorder. Being nagged by a school nanny about not eating chocolate biscuits is one thing but is she or anyone else putting off your daughter eating her packed lunch? If I were you I would ask your daughter more questions then contact the school headmaster as this needs to be nipped in the bud as clearly something's been said to your daughter to make her react this way.

  • I hadn't really thought about this, perhaps I'm too young.

I think you should speak to the school. As you say she's at an impressionable age and I think you should set an example to her that people should stand up for what they believe in. You're not trying to embarrass her, and you don't need to rant and rave in front of her friends.

  • While I was in High School the district and state got on this healthy food kick also. Their solution was raise the price of every vending machine with coke and junk food. The reaction was wide spread "black market" candy, selling it out of backpacks and lockers during class.

  • completely agree with you, the government really is taking away our freedom of choice.

I believe schools have a responsibility to offer healthy (and tasty) food options. BUT this should not mean they don't offer other choices like burgers, chocolate etc.

having lunch nannys who confiscate chocolate from lunch boxes really is a complete breach of a child's human rights., and should NOT be allowed.

great video mate, some excellent points :)

  • great job harry. agreed 100%

  • i completely agree. who gave the school right to play mummy and daddy?

  • I agree with Harry and you . The school have no rights to decide what kids eat.

  • i totally agree with you, at my school district in the usa they did exactly the same thing, they made a rule that said that you cant bring in any candy, brownies, things like that. My brothers and I are all normal weight and we have to deal with this just because a some kids are overweight. A lot of people arnt happy with it and it even made nation news a few times

i hope things get better for your kids and they become comfortable with what they eat

  • This is a super comment. Exactly what I feel. Imo Jamie has done a world of good for School Dinners. Our schools menu is amazing and the kids are really enjoying their food. At the same time the school allows treats and the children and parents are not alienated!

  • Our school also gives out small sweets on the last day of term as a treat. I think things like that make all the difference.

They do some great cookbooks for kids, maybe you could get one for Neve as some explain the food groups etc in an accessible manner and have recipes for sweet treats alongside healthy foods. Something tangible like that might get through to her.

I feel for you cause like you say she's at an impressionable age. Hope Neve stops worrying about it all soon. Stupid schools!

  • I don't have children of my own but I'm Nanny to 5. ''Mine'' go to a really small school and their school dinner menu is fantastic that only about 5% of the school have packed lunches. I don't agree with some schools that go around checking lunches, saying what can and cannot be eaten. Banning things like chocolate biscuits is ridiculous. Our School has cake as a pudding, alongside a healthy meal what is wrong with that?

    Continued in next post:

  • Agree with you on most of the points there buddy. Great video.

  • I totally agree, the current system is very messed up. Obesity is rising and so are eating disorders yet the government continues to sit on their laurels and do nothing. It really angers me as well.

  • our school is really strict on what we eat.

as for chocolate and other fatty foods i think they are ok but as long as you lead a healthy life otherwise.

  • Hi harry,

i don't no how but you convinced me to buy an iMac G4!

i am 12 and i am worried im gonna get fat from school all they have is chips, cakes, pizza and other crap and then in the corner they have a small bowl of fruit which looks mouldy.

  • I have learned in life, if ever there is a problem; follow the money.

I feel it is not the governements place to take on the role of the parent in regard to raising one's children. I agree with your opinion 100%.

  • I think this is true, I remember that my school removed fizzy drinks and chocolate bars from the menu. It was all down to someone's father complaining that the food was available. It was not fair on everyone who bought such treats in a normal non excessive way. Keep this video up!

  • thats really bad, its going at bit OTT if you ask me

  • I'm glad you made this video actually. I live just near Toronto Canada, and while we don't have that kind of control implemented just yet, I know it's something that's been discussed. I don't have children, but I may one day, and I wouldn't want my school controlling my children's eating habits. That is up to the parent. New ideas need to be brought forward if they really want to address the issue of health & overeating within the country!

    Best of luck with everything.

  • I'm not overweight, if anything I'm underweight. I understand that you see people as rude or not rude, but my school is having a big push on healthy eating and if Im enjoying a nice Snickers bar, the Dinner Ladys come up to me and say "put that in the bin, your not allowed to eat it because its unhealthy and your not allowed", I honestly don't care how rude it is, and I know they're just doin a job, but I say quite angrily to them "NO, do I look fat to you!!!" because its absolutely ridiculous

  • i think its apauling there making your child feel this way. the kids should be able to have what they want/ or whatever the parents see fit. obviously the school could take action if an overweight kids bringing a KG of chocolate a day. Fortunately high schools dont have such rules but primary schools have really locked down and are trying to scare the kids off food. eat mc donalds, chocolate etc. in moderation as part of an active lifestyle. i have take out etc. and am very healthy.

  • Hey man i know what your going through, imy sonis preety much going through the same thing as your daughter.

Its the same in Australia cant take this cant take that, then they turn around a few weeks later and they have a fundraiser for Jam doughnuts, WTF, and they try to tell me he cant take chips to school.

    Its bull crap.

I think its all money grabing, trying to make your kids buy lunch from school.

  • This should be featured.

  • Personally I think that the parents should have complete say on what their children eat. At my school everyone gets food from the school but you can choose what you want like pizzas, meat pies, juice box, choc milk, no fruit lol and other things I cant remember right now. I live in Australia by the way and from what I have seen here anyone can eat what they want. I think it is more because we are lazy and we cannot be bothered making rules on foods and monitoring kids. Peace

  • The school CANNOT tell your child what to eat, they can choose what meals they provided on there menus but CANNOT stop a child from bringing in there own food. If your childs school has said this, phone them up and tell them if they try to stop your child from eating food that you as her parents has provided you will contact your local council or MP. To repeat the school cannot TELL only ADVISE

  • Nice video, nice subject, but i don't agree 100 % with you, but i love the video, anyways looking forward to a new video
