Hi Kendra, Sure go a head! Thanks for asking for a permission! Let me know if you want to get high bitrate 1080p or 720p version and I will bring it over to Santa Cruz / ASU.
This is the most amazing and spectacular footage I've ever seen filmed in a kelp forest. You have an amazing talent. Keep it up :) Man if only i could keep my filming stable when i'm filming wild steelhead lol.
Awesome feedback, thanks! What is your process for white balancing? I currently use a white slate for manual white balancing and have been told that it needs to be reset every 5 feet up or down. It would be helpful to know how often you reset your white balance -- is it only when you ascend or descend a few feet, or are there other considerations -- like going from direct sunlight to a shaded area?
Beautiful video. Mind me asking what picture style menu settings you used? I had a 7D and shoot fully manual. I've adjusted my picture style menu settings to be flat for post production based on some above water recommendations I found. However, I've never found recommendations for picture style menu settings underwater. Thanks!
Thanks! I tend to keep picture style on "landscape", most saturated of the available modes. For RAW pictures, its of course just a tag in raw file; whereas for .jpg and video picture style actually affects how saved pic/video will look. Based on my experience, for UW video manual WB and ISO speed are the two key functions to get right. Shake, then aperture and shutter. Then minor tweaks with picture style.
PS.Above stands for available light only UW video;add lights and its different ballgame.
Mikko,
Kendra here. Can I use this video in a presentation? thanks for your reply.
cheers,
~k

Hey Mikko,
Hope that death valley trip was a blast! Is it still an option to get this video, either to Jim at ASU or ftp/email.
thanks,
Kendra

What the heck
What the heck eh
Did a scuba diver capture this or a robot?
terra382 1 year ago
Haha! No robots involved (unless the diver counts as one :) ). Some shots are made from underwater tripod to make them stable.
