I thought I was watching a preview for the show hoarders, " I spend a lot of time sitting here sitting and talking on the radio" he says in the video. well it shows. clean your damn house!
If you don't want to buy an antenna make sure you get an SWR meter and an antenna tuner. Hi SWR can damage the radio. Maybe you know that but I thought I would mention it.
Felix, thanks. You've made me start to think. Can you let us know what type of pipe you used, etc, so maybe we can start to experiment with designs as well.
@lmno456 Hi, I just used a regular galvanized pipe, I dont recommend the design seen in this video very much, its just something i threw together one afternoon with junk as i waited for my real antenna to arrive. Whats important are the element lengths. But anyway i plan on putting up a video on how to build a much better version. I was working on a prototype but it was stolen when i left it outside. Stayed tuned though.
Felix, I am going to Mexico and everytime I make my adventure to Mexico, I hike in the mountains about 30miles from the village my cousins live in. I want to stay incontact with them for safety reasons(cell phones do not work up there) but I cannot find the solution. I have tried using a CB radio but it only went like...1 mile or 2. Please tell me what I need. What antennas and CB radios. Gracias.
@FelixTheHouseFreak Okay, I will try an imax 2000 antenna for a base. But see...the thing is, I go on walks in dry mountanous areas. I walk and I would need a handset radio...what exactly do you recommend? And for the CB Linear Amplifier; where can I get??
@him3zz Well if you need a handset radio then it gets harder. The only thing i can advise on that situation would be to get a CB walkie talkie with a very long antenna and not a short rubber one. A realistic trc 216 for example. Or get a CB walkie talkie with a detachable antenna and BNC connector so you can buy and install a longer whip antenna on it yourself. You can find all of these things on eBay and around the internet.
Then just adjust your SWR to the frequency you wanna transmit On .. and Voila an excellente antenna at a very low cost!~ and the best thing is no one around you will ever suspect that you have a CB or Ham radio
Hi you all CB or ham radio fanatics .. if you live in a house im sure youa re bound to have an eavestrough YES a eavestrough all you need is teh proper coax cable . and a SWR Meter use the eavestrough as the POSITIVE Connected to the cneter wire on your coaxx cable .. Use Your Incoming water pipe for your ground ,, make sure you connect it to the incoming pipe UNDER the water meter for better GROUND after that connect your coax to the SWR METER
@MacintoshWizard When i first set it up i was getting about 2:1 then i brought it down to 1:5 and eventually with enough tweaking i got it down flat to 1:1 believe it or not.
@KLewisChef Thanks. Its the first CB i ever had and now i have a bit of a collection of CB radios but i still keep this one around because its special hahaha.
Do you plan on showing another one but in more detail? I am only seeing videos from 3-18months ago.I dont see many new or recent videos and I would like to know/see more on how you set the CB up w/a DC/PC.I set up my auto stereo useing the same method when I was young and now I cant remember but would like to.Nice video
Sweet Mate Like the setup. Reminds me of me first setup. Which radio is that mate? When I first got on the Air I used radio me dad gave me in 06 it was G.E, 40 Channel AM only rig that he had in the garage. But it sure did and still does the trick ey.
At first it was around 1.5 or 2 then lowering the radial wires about 1.2. Then i got a friend to get on the radio and watch the meter while i adjusted the radials and things around, and eventually i managed to get the SWR totally flat. I was pretty impressed.
Nice job, my first antenna was a peace of wire through a peace pvc pipe. I talked over 50 miles good nights with a cobra 29. And talked 500 miles on skip. With a 50watt radio. Great job....
how do you get power i was told you cant plug into a wall you have to use a car battery only, also are you getting a 28 mile range on a cb i thought the furthest is maybe 5 miles if your lucky i dont know what you got but your doing something right,
You have to use a power supply. That will turn the 120 volts AC into 12 volts DC. Maybe this day that i got 28 miles there was a bit of these conditions known as "skip". With those you can talk all over. But on average i got about 8 or so on this antenna. Now that i use my commercial antenna i get around 20 miles or so.
Ive heard skip conditions that bring signals all the way from Mexico here to Chicago. Theres a video of it on my account incase youre interested.

28 miles on AM with 4 watts is NOTHING to sneeze at!!!
TheZeke1974 10 months ago
@TheZeke1974 That's true, but it never happened again on this antenna. I suppose that day I was having a bit of "local skip".

@him3zz Hi try an imax 2000 antenna for a base or a wilson antenna for the car and a Cobra radio. Try finding CB linear amplifiers for more power.

Thats a horisontal antenna? just a loong wire?
Are your CB grounded? ( I use for power suply an PC pow.suply ) Cheers From Hungary 5*
Pujc 2 years ago
Hi i guess you cant see the element properly in the video, but there is a pipe in that wooden frame that stands vertical.
My CB radio is not grounded just connected to the power supply in a normal fashion, if that is what you are referring too.
