I think this video with this song is amazingly beautiful. The song is sad, but with this video it really makes you look at life and think of how beautiful everything is. They bring out the best in each other. I know you didn't intend for it to give that feel, but good job anyhow :)
You can't just make Sufjan music whatever you want it to mean. When he writes music, he always has a specific purpose to the song. This song is about a young man and woman who are in love but are faced with the fact that the girl has terminal bone cancer and will not live very long. They are obviously virgins who had sex because they were faced with never being married one day because she was going to die. Then afterward they are both emotionally torn because they are going to lose each other
@blkngreen I disagree. You can make any music from any artist whatever you want of it. That's what music's there for, regardless of the writer's intent.
I have decided that I cannot truly be friends with anyone who does not think this is one of the best songs ever. It would be like associating with a sociopath, or someone else missing that ephemeral quality that makes one human.
I was on the East Coast this summer as well...I went to a submarine museum that was by a navy yard, and outside between the two was a monument one of the names was "Casimer Pulaski" I flipped out- I nearly cried.
I really like this video. I like the combo of the visuals + the song. It's fine. Also I'm from New York and sometimes forget that it's such a cool trip for others :b
sorry, u dont know me but I love this song so much, it makes me think of my girlfriend and want to cry at the same time (and yes i know how weird that sounds)
I know the music and video clash, someone else told me that when I showed them. I dunno I just put the two together without thinking about the lyrics really. It was a great holiday though.
@pinkcowboyhat I think the music and the video fit perfectly. The so called 'clash' is beautiful. This is not a depressing song despite it's subject matter. It is heartfelt and it raises vibrations. Just like the visuals do. Very nice work! Thankyou for uploading this.
Is there actually a talented musician that.... God Bless Sufjan Stevens

Love how this is such an amateur video but so beautiful.

Sad song, but still life affirming somehow.

The lyrics of the song contradict the fun looking trip but I think it's edited well to the music, if you don't really think about the lyrics.

Honestly, your footage was beautiful, but it most definitely does not fit such a tragic and beautiful song.

it's a lovely set of images, and actually, I don't find the music too discordant with the images. NYC can be a sad and lonely place in the summer.
Or, you could just imagine that who Sufjan is singing about was on this vacation, and this is what one remembers in the state his friend is in.
Anyway, fwiw, I think it's a lovely string of images set to a great song.

fantastic. You're really talented. I love all the contrasts between the images and the light, and the speed and the focus. You go!

i don't think this song is exactly something I would set my vacation video to, it's one of the purest, saddest, and troubling songs I've ever heard.

but that's a cool thing about sufjan's music. you can make whatever you want of it.

I really like the song but it's quite cheesy, i could understand why someone wouldn't like it. Oh, and you're an idiot.

i find it funny how you used a song purely about a person dying of cancer, for a video of a pretty fun looking trip
elliotbosveldiznotme 2 years ago 3
ironic, i know. however, it's kind of fitting as my next trip there kind of sucked because of shit going on back at home.

Hmm I think that the music goes better with a more rural setting. The disco looks like fun though.

this song is so so sad. but i think the video syncs with the music quite well. except for maybe the disco-esque room scenes.
looked like a lot of fun though! and great great song :D
