Yeap!...This is the TRUTH right here!...Help me Now!...Mercy!...Let me take you there!...Much respect Mother Mavis & the Staple Sinngers...The New School,,,needs to get back to the Old School!...4 real!
I think if someone approached me and asked what soul music was, I'd just show them this video as it speaks for itself, like a sledgehammer! Hell I can't even watch Mavis Staples without breaking out in goosebumps.
unique, soulful, brilliant...every time i watch videos like this i wish that i was born so much earlier in time. i am 22 years old and i get emotional when i watch performances like this. what happened to everything?????
I have one question. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSIC FROM THIS SONG TO TODAY? What happened to the great soul music of the 70's? What happened to the Great R&B of the 60's & 70's. Usher, Fifty Cent all the so called shit that is being produced today. Again, what happened to the great music of the late 60's and 70's? Does anyone believe that Usher would have made it at all during the 60's & 70's with his so call great music of today. I dont think so. Mr. Wizard i wanna go back.
tThe Staples Singers have a couple of the most awesome and truthful songs ever. This one, Respect Yourself along with Smiling Faces by the Undsputed Truth and Backstabbers by the O'Jays tell the REAL DEAL!

I'm a big fan of the Staple Singers, Ike and Tina, and all the greats but, beyonce has just as soul as those singers do and it may be hard to see because some of her lyrical content in songs are sex or club influeneced but, if you seen her in Cadillac records or Dreamgirls and even in her concerts you will know what i'm talking about!!! believe me, she can get down with the legends!!!
With all due respect, Beyonce ain't the only one (and I haven't heard Beyonce SANG like Mavis ) - you left out Chrisette Michelle, Laura Izibor, Corrine Bailey Rae, Lalah Hathaway, Deborah Bond, Conya Doss, and SEVERAL OTHERS who I'm quite sure have been studying the FABULOUS Mavis Staples.
so very true. Furthermore dont forget the message they had in their music. especially in their earlier work. I cant say ive heard anything inspiring in Beyonce's music.
Just awesome! It seemed like the whole audience was saying "I'll take you there" when mavis would say "help me now". LOL. It's a good thing they song faded out. Mavis was about to take them to church. LOL (I love you Mavis).
I love it, I love it, I had been waiting a long time to see this. I had a cassette recording of this, but seeing the picture is so much better. She is just great. I love them all. Pop, Evon, Cleo, and Mavis. I got a chance to see them in person, and it was just earth moving
Great Video!!! I have been waiting to see a live version of I'll take you there from back in the day!!! Mavis was getting ready to let that place out!!! Does anyone have the video of The Staple Singers performing I'll Take You There on 'Rock Concert"?

The Staple Singers were awesome.
I remember listening to them on the radio in the 1970s.

True, true, true...And also notice that there's hardly and "private" skin being shown.
This is the ultimate in talent!
