back in 72' Pruitt ran a 40 yd dash against Bob Hayes on the short lived "pro track circuit" Hayes at 31 made the young Pruitt look like a slug,he beat him by over 2 yards if it had been 60 or more he would have been smoked by 10+
super cool video. I loved that team. no one ran the wishbone like this group: Jack Mildren was like a computer distributing to the dive back, pressing the keeper and could pitch the ball later and more accurately than any other triple option I ever saw, and the man he was pitching it to was the human bullet,...Greg Pruitt.
just beautiful to watch them run the degree of difficulty of the wishbone so precisely.
An incredibly gifted and under recognized back! Not wild about the song, but they way he broke that Kansas State guy's ankles around the 1:35 was perfect! He didn't even get a hand on Greg!
why would you play that garbage music for a great video like this.....how the fuck does that band sell records.....must be a lot of fucking morons that would call that shit music
@Meni69 I would have preferred no music at all to that crap. You get big points on showing and OU great. But you get a zero for that pathetic excuse for music.
OU best backs in College history: Vessels Heisman, Owens Heisman, Greg Pruitt see above, Joe Washington 2nd in heisman, Billy Sims Heisman, Marcus depree unfulfilled but...A. Peterson, Demarco Murray...65 Td's! not to mention: Kenny King Raiders, Elvis Peacock Rams, David Overstreet Miami.
It's nice to read these comments about my cousin. All through high school, that's all people would say to me "do it Pruitt" Even though the browns traded him he still made it to the super bowl
Greg was an awesome RB. To bad injuries limited his rushing numbers later in his career. Still caught alt of passes though...I wish the Browns had someone like him today!!
The NFL viewed the wishbone as disruptive technology. You assume they feared getting all their 50-year-old quarterbacks hurt but the hell of it is that a wishbone team wouldn't NEED geriatric quarterbacks since a wishbone quarterback never had to look at a zone pass defense; he wouldn't have to spend 25 years learning to throw against pro zones.
You missed quite a few, with Joe Washington being the most obvious. Jermie Calhoun will hopefully get his shot, since Murray can't stay healthy, or break tackles this year.
Greg Pruitt was amazing at OU. Nebraska's whole defensive game plan in the "Game of the Century" was to not let Pruitt beat them. They were successful unfortunately, but Jack Mildren (2 TDS Rushing and 2 TDS Passing I think), nearly did. We just could not stop that damn Jeff Kinney. That 1971 game is one I will never forget, I remember it like it was yesterday.
Pruitt is one of my favorite alltime backs. To bad he played his career in Cleveland. If he would have been in La He would be at the top of the Alltime leaders list.
dubasher, you must have been reading my mind. I can see it in my mind's eye now. I can remember a run Pruitt had on Monday Night Football (I believe it was against the Kansas City Chiefs) where he bounced off of five or more players during this great run. It was reminiscent of a similar run by Walter Payton (who also wore #34).
the beginning of a flood of great OU backs in the 1970s
