  • wow iamHarro, Canada, still has Her Majesty The Queen, Queen Elizabeth II as there head of state, , they had the union jack on their flag, but chose to get a flag of their own.. we too can do the same thing, the colours can still resemble our proud past.... and the customer42, not all of Australia was a prison country in fact we werent even a country until 1901, we were seperate colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia, under Federation on jan 1 1901 which is the true Australia Day,

  • We should make a new flag, and then we can make this the national anthem!

  • its pretty cool that in the youtube comments section (normally a den of racism and bigotry) everyone's talking about how we should recognize the indigenous people. Congratulations guys, my faith in humanity is somewhat restored.

  • Hate this song ... I love the Aussie flag. Best flag there is.

  • @mikeybk9 I also like the Australian flag as well leave it alone

  • "Not Yankee side kicks or second class poms" Haha couldnt have said it better myself

  • Ha ha an Australian copying American western culture. You all tring to be like us in the wild wild west coast?

  • @TheSickest666 bugger off wanker.. "We not yankee sidekicks"

  • The Flag is a good flag but we need something to rember the Aborigines who were here first Maybe change the stars to black yellow and red.

  • @bostonjack100

Personally, I think the Eureka flag should be our National Flag.

But who knows, maybe the Aboriginal flag should be our national flag?

  • @ridethelapras what about the flag we have except remove the jack and throw in the aboriginal flag there thats my opinion

  • @MrVilniusNastavnik or aboriginal flag where the jack it and eureka where the commonwealth star is

  • @MrVilniusNastavnik i realise i am responding to something 4 months old, but i think by "commonwealth star" you mean the "federation star" it doesnt have anything to do with the brits. :) im agreed though, the eureka flag or the aboriginal flag are both far more appropriate for us than the union jack will ever be. no offence to any poms or monarchists, one world after all. but an australian flag should represent australia.

  • @TheCustomer42 nope i mean commonwealth star, the 7 pointed star at the bottom left corner of the flag which is ALSO known as the federation star the seven point star or the star of federation... but yes the eureka flag as our national flag and i am australian by the seekers as our national anthem

  • @TheCustomer42 no offence but we should not have the aboriginal flag as our own it should have a meaning different to that.

  • @iamHARRO i didn't say we should. i just said those flags are both far more relevant to Australia than the union jack, imo. if we were to have a new flag, the sky is the limit, we can get as imaginative as we want. the one at the end of this song was quite good, looks like it draws inspiration from a number of our flags / aspects of our culture.

  • @TheCustomer42 but wee need the union jack to be honest its our heritage since this country was a prison country

  • @iamHARRO lol... So if we got a flag that represented Australia it would instantly DESTROY ALL OUR HERITAGE! NOOOO NOT THE HERITAGE!! you don't see the Canadians with a union jack on there flag, but then, they had the common sense to recognize themselves as a sovereign state with their own head. so the problem is bigger than our colours, as you have just unintentionally highlighted.

  • @ridethelapras and why should the aboriginal flag be our national flag ?

  • The Union Jack shows where we came from. We are still a part of the british empire and the Union Jack should remain on our flag untill we become a republic.

  • like that man dusty he will live in our folklaw for a long time to come

  • Thanks for posting this very passionate song. Its always nice to listen to john play

for Australia about Australia. He's the patron saint of Australian bush ballads and

i hope he lives for ever.

  • I love John Williamson, ever since i was a little kid, he was my favourite singer..and i used to cuddle up in bed, put his true blue cd on and fall asleep listening to it...good memories :)

  • @1CaptainAustralia1:We do have a proud history, well fairly proud (there's a lot that we shouldn't be proud of), but the fact is our nation's binding origin story (for lack of a better term) is Gallipoli, a clever English plan poorly executed by English generals & lots of good men died as a sideshow to the war. Jump to WW2 when we had to send AMF boys, trained to lay roads to fight the Japanese up the Kakoda track because the English wanted our ADF for India & wouldn't release them to defend us

  • We have a proud history, fight to keep the flag and the commonwealth you sad fucks

  • @1CaptainAustralia1 That s why we should have a new flag to add to our proud history,a flag with no british emblem in the corner. That's something to be real proud of!!!

  • @lapalad I'm actually fairly neutral on it all, I think at the time I was half drunk and hoping for someone to pick a fight about it lol

  • the union jack can be shoved fair up the queens ass,,,nothing against her

  • Fantastic. No words can really describe, what the songs that Johnny sings, means to me. We live in the best country in the world, we are blessed to have so many bush ballards in our country, it makes me proud to be an Australian.

  • this song is just the best we may be from pommy decent but we are our own country and we need our own flag and how often do you see the queen here ??? you dont its about time we had a flag of our own ........ just my throughts

  • Is that pixie jenkins on the fiddle? I know him.. lol

  • @CLELANDBLUEBOY Yes it is... You tard mate?

  • IM NOT BRITISH I AM A PROUD AUSTRALIAN, BORN & BREED. AM PROUD OF MR JOHN WILLIAMSON

  • This is a good song. If I were an Aussie I wouldn't want to be lumped in with the US or UK either. It's their country. We haven't done so good running things over here; why would anyone want to imitate us?

  • At least piss the pommy flag in the corner off ----- we are Aussies not Poms

  • @pyrofella The majority of Australians are of British descent in one way or another, either as convicts, settlers or soldiers etc. Try looking back at your family tree, I can guarantee that there is at least one or two British relations in your family.

Additionally, Australia is and always has been a BRITISH COLONY

  • @SnJester this is true but we are our own country its about time we ran it as ours

  • @SnJester

by your logic, everyone in the world is pretty much from a different country, but we all like independence, hence why australia isn't called britain 2.

(i know thats not the real reason)

Australians have an accent, a country, and a culture, that are all separate from our origins.

I'm half irish, but i call myself an australian, because i am.

this is australia, and thats where i'm from.

  • @SnJester What the fuck. Australia stopped being a British COLONY in 1901. It was Federation that made us into a self governing member of the British Empire.

  • @pyrofella Onya Mate, about time we all grew up,stuff the monarchists, this is Australia 2010, Piss the jack off from MY flag.

  • @MrAvalonman A new flag by all means! We got our Maple Leaf flag Feb 15, 1965. The search and the push for a new flag began in 1925. Don't lose heart. It will come. We'd like you to join your Canadian cousins with a distinctly Australian and beautiful flag.

  • Bloody oath mate! Change the flag now!
