  • Great car, but that driver needs a lot of instruction. He should have had an instructor with him driving a line like that.

  • If you guy's are looking for a new test driver search tappy80 on youtube. He's fast, smooth & no fear ;)

  • Check out tapp80's video response above to the right.

  • Ya wanna see how to get round Laguna fast in a Subaru, goto my page and watch my brother Patrick tear it up. Did 1:38.5 fastest lap during Global Tuner Grand Prix last October and will be there again this year (if infact the event is still a go)

  • im not hating but i have a pretty sick 2006 sti . and i know what an sti is capable of. and the driver is driving kinda fast but it had more to go. i dont know if th@ was the warm up lap or what ever . but props on the run @ the seca dude ,im jelous

  • I don't know about you but the "corkscrew" is my favorite turn.

  • line on last turn is horrible imo. Look like you exited it very sharp I think you could have carried way more speed if you didn't. IDK educate me

  • what's the time????????????

  • wtf? this same exact track is on gran turismo 2.

  • gimme a solstice and I'd kick his slow ass outta my favorite track!

  • mamon

  • streeeeeeeeet tires

  • An entertaining video! I'm currently staying at Casa Munras which is about 5 miles from Laguna Seca Raceway. Drove past it on the 68 on my way to the Inn. WIsh I could get a run in, but they're full with Skip Barber for the length of my stay. Maybe next time...

  • who is this fool? wrong lines, slow shifting... what a waste..

  • Another shining example of someone who doesnt know what they're talking about.

Try reading the video description. WARM UP LAP.

  • the lines remain the same whether warming up or full out racing, this guy here is just one of those people who don't belong in a capable car like the featured STi.

  • Yesterday, 9-14-09, I was lapping Laguna Seca 1 min 52 secs in my stock 05 Sti on the stock Bridgestone RE 070 tires. With some Toyo 888s or better tires I could have easily gotten into the 1 min 40s. add Coilovers and sways and were talking low 1 min 40s. It was my first time at Laguna in my Sti, amazing car, 69,000 mile daily driver, no mechanical problems ever. These cars rock.

  • 1. It's a "warm up" lap.

    2. STi's understeer due to the suspension setup from factory. It's not the engine, and they didn't make it understeer on purpose for rallying. With sway bars the understeer goes away. The engine is a light, low center of gravity layout. It's good.

    I owned one. Awesome car.

  • wick..

  • Not very fast, but still very FUN! I'm almost always the #1 american in this car on Gran Turismo : )

  • i know this track off by heart

    gran turismo ftw

  • imho sti is meant for dirt, not asphalt

  • you can see on the video how the wrx tends to understeer..

and yes.., the driver is no pro. but can you blame him?.. If i had a chance to run a wrx on Laguna Seca, I would too post the video on youtube.

  • Yep, the reason for the understeer in the STI is to compensate for the snow/gravel drifts in WRC events. If you were actually drifting the car you wouldn't have as much of a problem.

  • I don't think racing STIs have a geometry that's even close to that of the production model. It understeers because of its front heavy layout anda soft rear suspension.

  • If your in complete control your not going fast enough!

  • fuckin boot it man...hes driving like a fuckin learner

  • You driving or picking you nose..........

  • Very accurate to the Gran Torismo 3 version of this track

  • wow your not pushing the car

  • hence the term "WARM-UP LAP"

  • I would do anything to take a brisk lap at Laguna Seca.

  • ok then cut your legs off then you can go.

  • okay done, now what?

  • wait for them to grow back!

  • of course arm4 is an expert because of his great experience in gran turismo

  • Do you actually believe that? Our line isn't perfect here, but it's far from horrible. Turn 9 was probably the worst part. The best line for turn 2 is debated, as a single late apex or a double apex. What parts of the line did you think were the worst? Let's discuss.

  • well i was looking at turn two u could have been more centered, and the turn after the cork screw you could have went a little wider and then cut the apex, it seemed like you where on the inside a little two much as for the other turns you did pretty good, could have went a little faster on the straight away before turn one though.

  • @drivingsports I know this is late but here's some advice, take it with a grain of salt. I would only go for a late apex in T2 if I had a really high G car, as well you straightened the wheel too late, you need to use the entire track on corner exit and get up against the bumpers on the other side of the track. Your turn-in's and apexes were mostly great, just not following through.

T9 you want to start that wide almost on the outside bumper and get the car rotating early.

  • Can you read the description?

  • got damn ppl....its A FUKING WARMUP LAP. fuking read and use your eyes.

  • I think you and I were the only people that read the "warm up lap" part. But a two minute and 5 second lap time isn't bad for a warm up lap at all.

  • Great driving dude had the car under controll at all times great

  • Slow? Hes not driving a F1 car. Maybe all you guys talking shit should actually try going to a real track, its not like playstation. Your street car wont take tight turns at 100.

  • u can take a turn at 100 mph depending on wat car

  • Depends on how tight of a turn. But no street car is going to handle like an F1 car, which is what some people seem to expect.

I thought this guy drove good for it being a stock car, took it right up to the limit, but dident pass it, could have gone a little faster on the straights, but idk how good the cars brakes are.

And the people saying hes going so slow would be hard pressed to do better, im sure [doubt theyve ever been to the track]

  • try taking a turn at 100 mpg on gran turismo...not gonna work...lol

  • 100 mpg! LOL

  • oops. i wish i got 100 mpg on my suv.

  • think u can go any slower?

  • to slow men what that f

  • omg i remember this circuit playing grand turismo one on playstaion when i was like 7

  • I remember when I played this in IndyCar Racing, when i was like 7 ;)

    /watch?v=qTNl1CGHUbc

  • Is the guy afraid of cornering?

  • they dont show the acctual lap because the expert driver wrecked this beautiful car.

  • Actually, we don't show it because we didn't have the time (it was a very hurried program) to set up both the meters and the cameras for the later runs. And, since we're primarily a print magazine, the data was more important.

  • HHahahahaha PWNED by poster dumbass! Why talk shit when you dont know?

    People suck!!!1

  • this dude sucks hahahaha

  • it's a warm up lap

  • Coz you are SO much better on your playstation kid?

  • the driver is a noob!

  • double on that.... ugly lines

  • lol.. ya i love laguna seca.. i go up there almost very weekend.. its really cool to live near this track especially since i just mountain bike up there and walk right in moto gp for free..

  • You couldn't run that time in a STOCK 05 STI. The Grand-Am GT Porsche 911 GT3 Cup did a 1:32.798 in 2006. Hell, the AMS Mitsubishi Evo did a 1:32.270 last year.

I'm gonna guess you were playing a video game.

  • yea ima have to agree with that

  • lmao "where can i get this game" rofl

fuckin idiots, driven round this soo many times...on forza 2 lol nice to see it real for once! :D

  • From someone who has ran this track many times, your lines are not the greatest. You didn't allow the car to fully track out on a few sections there. But overall, a cool video from the perspective of the new STI. And Trackvision software is some of the coolest automotive software out. I just bought it to use for my shifter kart races.

    -J

  • I think it's warm up lap, no need to take the best line when you're barely pulling half a g lol.

  • Nice lap, very smooth. Good to see it in real life :).

Can't believe people are slating it. The title just says "Laguna Seca in the 2008 WRX STI".. nothing about 'omg, world record lap'. It was well driven and for all you people that struggle to park your ford fiestas in tesco, it shows you how a car should be driven :)

  • u people tink its a game DUMB ASSES!!!!

  • It's not a videogame jackass, this is real.

  • ur a fucking idiot

    its not a video game

you can die in this sprot

    dumbfuck

  • cool game!!!!!

  • where can i download this game?

  • What a fuckin joker... this is real Asshole

  • You folks slamming the driver...jealous e-punks at least he got drive his ride at the world famous Laguna Seca. Track driving is not about going fast. You must start somewhere and that somewhere for him is his comfort and safe level. Crashing because you exceeded your personal limits is a crying shame. At least he was cool enough to post his Laguna track experience for the whole world to see..fast slow or whatever. He rode Laguna byaaatches!

  • Couldn't agree more. Nuff said bro.

  • Btw that was a reply to rb26powered and not djmatao.

  • im with you...a bunch of haters who will never get to experience this will act like this.....you know you want it !!!!haahaha

  • "Crashing because you exceeded your personal limits is a crying shame"

    Not really...

  • Not only did he get that, but if the critics took a minute to read the information about the video they'd see WARM-UP LAP in big capitals. People these days -_-

  • el saca corcho

  • jajaja

  • dont know wat ur talking about his line is perfect....go watch any other video....hes just driving like a sissy

  • He's doing a warm up lap which explains why he isn't giving it his all. Going all out on cold tyres isn't a great idea :P

  • His line isnt so great

  • I agree this car is FAST and not a cruiser around the track it want to go faster, ie foot to the metal. Scoobie owner

  • Always appreciate camerawork that is steady. Many car videos on this site seem like the operator is having a seizure.

  • lol

  • I agree.

I love these onboard videos, but FINALLY a camera that isn't frickin flying everywhere.

  • You actually think they're gonna put another person in the car with him!? The camera isn't shaking 'cause they mounted it to the seat!

  • I'd ride in that car any day. Great camera mounting job wouldn't you say? If securing the camera to the seat is the cure for automotive tourettes then let's all start mounting our cameras to our backsides. Is this what you mean heymissesbill?

  • You actually think they're gonna put someone on the car with him just to hold a camera!? It's not shaking cause they mounted it to the seat!

  • How fast would you have him go on street tires? He is pushing fine track day pace.

  • First thing I will bring to your attention is the fact that the driver is not wearing protective gear. That alone means he wont be running high speeds. let alone the fact that hes a sports writer.

  • This is a sports writer for Subiesport, he doesn't want to crash the car like that guy who crashed his boss' Enzo

  • ROFLCOPTER HAHAH I JUST PEED A LITTLE

  • So since the camera was rolling the whole time lets see a lap at speed!!!! That will end all the arguing.

  • I run 1:53 with my Mazdaspeed 3 at Laguna, a new STI should run at least 1:48

  • it's warm up lap you dumb fuck

  • lol yeah call me names, stupid e-thugs. Still slow as shit for a warm up lap, retard. Go to a track and find out, oh wait, too far of a drive for you huh? You live in Canada.

  • Youtube smart ass,

The guy just flat out can't drive, you can see from the vid. A warm-up lap doesn't mean that you go use the wrong line.

  • its crazy watching this video when i race at Laguna Seca on my grand turismo game all the time... thats awesome

  • one way or another, this warm-up lap does not show good racing line through Laguna Seca. and my times are around the 1:43-1:44 mark with the Skip Barber Formula cars, during their 3-day school.

i would very much like to see a street clad quatro turn a 1:56. got any vid?

  • 2:05 lap time? Looks like he already went thru a warm-up lap before recording. Sorry but I'd like to see a more experienced driver behind the STI. I need someone to mooove me, or else I'm not spending $35k.

With my 06' A4 quattro, I could do a lap around Laguna Seca in 1:56. The STI should be able to do it in 1:45.

  • Nobody cares

  • That is easy to explain. The 2.0 liter formula is a spec from WRC, and the rest of the world adheres to it fine. Here in the states, we get the 2.5 liter mostly because of the Torque response is more plentiful, and at a low rpm even more so than the previous generation STi.

Hence the lower Redline. No need to spin it up any higher because you already made your power anyway.

  • i don't get it guys is the STI in japan has different engine or is it the same worldwide?? coz i'm not really sure, but the 2008 STI engine sound seems different in japan and the RPM is higher (8000RPM) than the US version (6700RPM)...can someone explain what's going on..thnx

  • The J-spec has a 2.0L, whereas North America gets the 2.5L. I think it's due to our emissions standards, but its also because of WRC rules. Some rally classes only allow up to 2.0L of displacement. Hence, the Evo having a 2.0L.

  • this video looks like it was slowed down

  • 2slovak0, The Evo X does come in a 5 speed manual and will out handle The wrx STi once again. The Evo always come out first on the track.

  • I encourage you to watch the Best Motoring reviews of the two cars. The STi is consistently faster.

  • add to that check out Tsukuba Lap Times for stock there not much better then STi's depends on Mod Evo's are invincible STi' not too shabby ither. Witch only brings to people taste in looks Agressive styling keeps the Evo alive not so great in Rally any more. I bet yeah there are more STi's then Evo's out there.

  • 35.000.00 Dollars for that thing? Shit!! That piece of crap is ugly as hell!

  • but your going so fast it wont matter

  • fact # 1 subaru never cared bout looks

fact # 2 they always impress people with the imprezza

fact # 3 hatchbacks handles better than standard sedan builds ( especially in rally )

fact # 4 the 2008 is one of the most advanced *tech wise* rally car there is up to date

fact!? # 5 why over look what's in the hood for the looks? ( that rhymed xD )

  • dope!! ive never seen this track except in gt 3 but the driver didnt even smash the sti. what a shame but its cool

  • You too...

  • Great car, one of the finest tracks in the world and he's driving it like Ms Daisy is in the back seat!

  • Donk... it says warm-up lap.

  • The new evo looks like it ran head into a wall then got upercutted, sllek yes, diffrent yes. UGLY. New STi looks like a grociery getter, SICK in rally form, gay ass car stock. I have an 07, can't wait to race an 08 EVO and make that peddle-shifting-retard-that-can't-drive-stick feel like a moron, then he will get an STi.

  • wow grand turismo all the way....hes not pushing the car so i dont really care or this video

  • if u can forget the styling, the sti is a great car xD

  • hell yeah subbies all the way

  • I've never even seen Laguna Seca in person, so now I realize how close to looking like it they get in those Gran Turismo games.

  • i dont know why everyone hates the new sti

imo i think the reason subaru did that is to help wit the performance

yea i like the new sti so wat go ahead and flame me

i also like the new mitsubishi evo X since it is more built for performance

both of them were desinged for more performance

yea i know that i might get flamed for this but i dont care

i like subarus and mitsubishi's for the performance and sometimes the looks since they always had nice looks

  • the 2008 sti is not more geared towards performance, just because it has some more hp. it has softer suspension and is barely faster than the 07 on a launch. both new cars are ugly, BMW 1 series here we come, we being everyone in the market for a car in that price range.

  • The new Evo looks better than the new Subaru, but both cars have been aesthetically ruined.

  • IM sure the sedan version will come up eventually. Im sure they just want people to see and get used to the WRX STI Body thats gonna run in the WRC!

  • yeaa laguna seca cali :D i live about 30 minuts away

  • I have an Evo 8 and I intend to keep it but I loooove the new STI. I like it way more than the new Evo 10.

  • I myself have an 04 Sti, and I love it, but this time Suby has really FKD UP!!!

  • i agree. the new body lines of the 08's have got to shit imo.

  • yeah, i agree (pwned by mitsubishi evo x)

  • subiesport is awesome keep up the good work! BTW to everyone that is being a cuntlick THIS IS A WARM UP LAP!!!

  • how does the new sti feels??? im still to like the bodystyle.. i think is growing in me.. i still love my rex tho.. lol

  • very slow and them very bad input-output curve line. Nice the walk for the circuit

  • Could you try to go fast next time...

  • It's an STi. Read what's on the center of the steering wheel.

  • It's the STi, you can tell by the centre of the steering wheel.

  • no it doesn't-the satnav is an option with the bbs wheel-do some homework.

  • yes your right..

  • It is indeed the STI, with a 6-speed.

  • No reason to hit 6th gear on Laguna.

  • and your stage stupid..

  • nobody can take sarcasm around here without getting there panties in a wad...

  • you're dam right...

  • Please Santa, bring me one of these! I've been good I swear!

  • god everyone is an asshole on youtube

  • We should ask you that question. Have you ever been to a racing school? Ever notice that they tell you 9-3 for best control and feel? You feed the wheel for tight turns and usually maintain the 9-3 position as much as you can.

Once you get a licence, try taking a few advanced driving school courses (the ones held at a track) - you'll learn a lot.

  • You're not the one driving, plz stfu

  • What the fucking hell is wrong with you people "Ohh he's just cruising... Ohh it's not fast... Ohh he didn't seem too fast... just taking it semi easy..." OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES

WARM-UP LAP!!! I got that from reading the description of this video. It's not fucking hard...

  • Was he having fun? Probaly yes. Thats all that matters. YOu don't have to pick the right line to have a car put a smile on your face. He's driven the 2008 wrx sti before you. Period.

  • Although to be fair, he may have been asked to take it semi easy to ensure the safety of the car. (I am assuming this isnt a private owner)

  • Not a bad driver, but definately not great.

  • As noted in the video intro and in the description to the right... this is a warm up lap and is here for you to get a firest hand experience of what the car is like... it's not to show off driving prowess. I was 'loafing' at best. And yes, it's a hand-built pre-production car.

  • ass :p

  • in about 2 mins and 2 sec's not bad if you ask me

  • lol you idiot
