Kite Liberator was a spin off, not a direct sequel, however it still keeps some of the dark tone, the director of the !998 kite is the same director in Kite Liberator.

I think I liked it a bit better than Kite mainly because i think the sex scenes were not needed. This movie needed more fighting scenes and a mysterious love interest like Oburi in the first Kite. Although the whole sci-fi thing didn't fit in the movie in my opinion which should have been removed. All in all, both movies are a favorite of mine but just keep the girl assassin, the guns and bombs, have her killing criminals, give her an interesting love interest, and a tragic past.

I liked this a lot! It was just crazy, over the top, midnelss violene and action, but it was still really great! Sure there was lack of substance, but for what it was it was amazing. Sopranoes ending too, to boot!

I just watched this yesterday. It was the raw version and I don't completely understand Japanese but I could follow the movie ok. Overall I thought it was pretty good. I wish Monaka had at least one more major fight scene though.

i watched the uncut original one, and i wasn't too impressed by it. Still got it, but only watched it once. It didn't feel enough like it actually had something to say and the story felt somewhat tame. Also i think the violence and especially the sex scenes were of questionable purpose. I'm actually glad that this one's not a hentai.

This one is weird. It has the similar film noir that the original had but the science fiction kinda puts me off. Still pretty interesting though. But the only thing that makes it really interesting it mentioning the first one.

Also, Mukai, the girl working at the cafe isn't the one who shot Oburi. This is only 2 years after the 1st one, so the other girl would only be the same age as Monaka. More likely it's Sawa, but that's also unlikely since the personality and hair colour are different.

I've been a big fan of Kite since it came out, same with Mezzo. However, when the Mezzo TV series came out I hated it cause they made it into a kiddy anime.. I can guess that Yasuomi Umetsu has ruined the sacred name of Kite with this OVA hasn't he? Regarless I will buy this, but... has he turned it into a kiddie anime like he did with Mezzo? I loved the dark world of the original Kite, I can't imagine a watered down tc acceptable version.

I just saw it at a convention, and no. The only connection is Sawa's gun with exploding bullets. A guy gives it to the main character of Kite Liberator and says that it used to belong to another girl assassin who then disappeared.
