@aagjmb Don't be silly. Religion is by definition amoral. You don't choose to do right or wrong, you choose to do what the god says. If the god says kill your first born son you do it even though that is an immoral act, and take no repsonsibility for doing so by blaming it on the gods command. Doing what is right is beyond petty superstition, and taking responsibility for your actions is something only free individuals can do.
@Defenstrator if god said to kill ur first born it would be a test of faith, and through your conscience u know right from wrong...like when u steal u feel something, when u save a baby from a fire u feel somthing. butttt some people are dead inside and choose not to have a god, they live their lives beliving nothing comes after yet they follow the same old rules.
@ikbrandon Ah the power of ignorance. I'm afraid that you're going to have to deal with the fact that there are lots of people that do not beleive in magical fairy people looking down form the sky. And what is more we are not only dead inside, but live happy lives. You don't need a made up god when there are so many real things to believe in, like friends, family, being part of your community, and just living life.
@Defenstrator and who then do you believe MADE those things that make you happy? God is real. You may not think you are dead now but someday unless you believe in God you WILL die. And you will go to Hell and wonder why you ever thought such a God who could save you from that did not exist.
And I do believe in a real God. Look around you and you will see all He has made. Look up on a starry night with all the lights out and tell me there is no God.
@MozartMeerkittten I don't believe anything made them, and if I did, it certainly wouldn't be some magical dude with a big beard. One who, let's face it, isn't believed in by most of the worlds population any more than you believe in Zeus. The real question is, why do you believe in something there is no evidence for? When you look at the starry sky you aren't seeing evidence of god, you are seeing evidence of stars. You don't get to then claim that a god made them without proof to back it up.
@Defenstrator yes, you are sadly one of those people whose eyes are completely closed to God and his amazing creation. The Evidence of God is all around you. I am a very believing person though and I would believe God made it all even if the world was gray and it rained everyday. And maybe the population who believes in God is small but at the end of the world there WILL be 144,000 who get into Heaven. I will be one of those people. I fear though that you won't be.
@MozartMeerkittten No need to fear what isn't going to come to pass. You can be sure I won't get into heaven, but you can also be sure that you won't either since it doesn't exist.
Of course if you would like to provide actual evidence as opposed to made up stories that it exists I will happily ackowledge it's existence. After all, only a fool denies something that has been proved true. But believing in something with no proof is pretty foolish as well.
@Defenstrator they are not made up stories. you WILL see that someday when you stand before God on Judgement day and he condems you to an eternity in Hell in the Lake of Fire.
I am telling you the evidence of God's existance is EVERYWHERE! How do you think the Earth got /just/ the right amount away from the sun and /just/ close enough as it needs to be for people to live there? why do you think our atpnosphere can support life and no other planet's can? how do you think YOU were made?
@MozartMeerkittten See, this is the problem, your way of thinking about things. When you say stuff like how is it that the earth is in the right spot for people, you are putting the cart before the horse. The earth happens to be in the right spot for life to develop, and people are some of that life. We are evolved to suit it, not it created to suit us. Next, before demanding explanations from other people, let's see you produce some evidence for your side. I'm still waiting to see that god.
@Defenstrator now YOUR problem is that you want proof but won't believe what's in the Bible. Tsk, tsk. I've given you evidence of God's existance but like Mab told John in John White's book "The Sword Bearer" "No one can make you drink the wine of free pardon, you must want to drink it yourself." You have to WANT to see God in things to see He is there. I understand now.
But one day you WILL know the Truth. and So shall I.
@MozartMeerkittten That's a perfect example of sloppy thinking. What's written in the bible is a bunch of stories. That isn't evidence, it's hearsay. Proof would be if you could replicate the events.
For example, if you could take water, and with no outside agency or tools magicly turn it into wine, that would be an argument that the story was true. But you can't, and being unable to do that we can safely say the story is just a story. And if the god is all powerful, why does it need a book?
@Defenstrator Are there mountians where you live? Well if there are then I can come to your house and move one to prove that my God is real because HE CAN give me the power to move mountians if I have "Faith the size of a mustard seed" and my faith is bigger than a mustard seed!
At any rate I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I know what is true and you think you know what is true. I can't change your mind on that, but God can. So I put this in his hands. ;)
@MozartMeerkittten There are lots of mountains where I live. To move them we use machinery, and engineering skills. We find it much more effective than waiting for a non-existent being to do it for us.I feel bad that you have decided to decided to turn your back on truth, but let's face it. If you were a reasonable person you wouldn't have faith in unprovable things.
@Defenstrator and I am sad that you have turned your back on Truth and that one day you will see the error of your ways and then there will be no turning back.
And maybe I'm not reasonable, maybe I'm crazy, but I have hope. And if being crazy means I have Jesus then hey: I will dance I will sing to be mad for my king, nothing more is hindering this passion in my soul! and I will become even more undignified than this some may say its foolishness but I will become even more undignified than this
@MozartMeerkittten I have hope to. Ssomeday people will live their lives in the light of truth, rather than the darkness of ignorance. That they realise that whatever else they might fight about, at least religion isn't something worth fighting for.
Of course this would all be a moot point if you could produce some proof. You keep ignoring the fact that I'll convert on the spot if only you could provide some actual evidence for a god. It doesn't have to be the minority christian one either.
@1971SuperLead If the morals are self evident, then why do we need the bible to tell them to us? That's the point of things that are self evident. They supply their own evidence and hence don't need dressing up in stories.
Plus the bible has several moral failings. The subordination of women, condoning slavery, cruel and unusual punishments to name just a few. Not a good book to rely on if you're a moral person.
@Defenstrator Ok, well, like the three little pigs. Once you hear the story then you can easily see the wisdom in building your knowledge so that it can stand intense questioning. Or building your self esteem on what you do instead of what you have. Or if your gonna be lazy you better have some friends who can take care of you. Or...
The old testememnt is about man's image of God, not the real God. It's also to humble you, as it makes little sense but sounds like it might be. And more.
@1971SuperLead So we are agreeing that the bible is not about an actual supernatural being, and is in fact a bunch of stories, many of which attempt to convey a message of the morality that applied at the time? I am glad we have found common ground.
@Defenstrator Well sorry, but it is a bout the supernatural as well and guess what? You too are supernatural. That's right, just look at your mind and see how it operates. It operates on laws that contradict the natural laws. It is no coincidence that laws of nature and the laws of mind oppose each other. Our minds are supernatural. No not our brains or bodies....but our minds, for the mind is non physical.
@Defenstrator Aristotle says that the intellect (nous), the ability to think, has no bodily organ (in contrast with other psychological abilities, such as sense-perception and imagination).[41] In fact, he says that it is not mixed with the body[42] and suggests that it can exist apart from the body. Wiki on Hylomorphism.
Wow! Whoever this Aristotle guy was, he was way ahead of the game.
@1971SuperLead In this case he was not. He was in fact wrong. Your intellect is a function of your brain. This has been succesfully proven in many ways. For example, if you have brain damage your ability to think is often impaired. Even just adding chemicals to your system like alchohol can impair judgement and reasoning. While Aristotle was a smart man, that does not make him always right. For example, Isaac Newton while contributing greatly with his theory of gravity, also believe in alchemy.
@MozartMeerkittten Yes, yes! God is evident in everything for God is in everything. It just takes the right pair of eyes to see this. Eyes that are willing to see no matter the consequence, that is. What brave eyes we have. We dared to face the truth and we found eternal life. Imagine that!
@1971SuperLead Believing in something that has no evidence is not a sign of bravery. Especially in countires that do not persecute you for believing in weird things.
@1971SuperLead Show me something that is living eternally. If you can't that means there isn't any evidence. By the way, old books of ignorant superstition do not count as evidence. You need to produce something actually real.
@Defenstrator What you call real is the physical universe, but now look at it. Everything is made up of matter and energy. Do you realize that all matter and energy (really the same thing but...) is eternal? That's right. Everything you see is made from the eternal. Only the forms change, and forms are ALWAYS changing. What you call death is but a change in form. Don't be fooled by forms. Life is not giving by forms. Life is giving my content, and all content is eternal.
@1971SuperLead Yes I was aware that energy cannot be destroyed, and if that's what life was you would have a point. However the change you are talking about does not result in a new form of life, so you don['t. It results in a live person becoming a dead one. When your body becomes worm food your conciousness is gone so there's nothing of you around anymore. By your definition rocks are "alive". Is that what you do? Talk to rocks becuase they are living things?
@Defenstrator, Look, NOTHING CHANGES, but forms. Life is not a form. Conciousness is not a form. Love is not a form. Ideas are not forms. Without change there is no death, yet changes are only in forms. If a sandcastle gets smashed, the sand is still OK. Life is like sand. You can mold it into a trillion different forms, but it's still just sand. Life is of the sand and not the castle the sand was molded into. You change your form every moment. Do you die every moment? Of course not.
@1971SuperLead So what you're telling me is that you don't know what life is? Ok, that's easy to fix. Life is a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have signaling and self-sustaining processes (i. e., living organisms) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or else because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate. Get it? Rocks are not alive, animals are. They have cells that sustain them. When this stops they are dead.
@Defenstrator Life is consciousness. If you can think, you are alive.
The rock and the animals are both just sub atomic particles. Under a sub atomic microscope they are identical. Reality is abstract. Reality is non physical. Just like your dreams at night, all matter is simply ideas of the mind producing them.
@1971SuperLead Amoebas don't think but they are alive. Bacteria don't think but they are alive. And reality exists whether you have an idea of it or not. You might argue human beings are unable to percive all of reality, but just becuase I can't see into another room does not mean that isn't still there. And even at the sub-atomic leve things are different. Different numbers of protens, electrons, and neutrons. So far you've been wrong about god, life, thinking and reality. What's next?
@Defenstrator, An amoeba is conscious (sentient) at some lower level, but an amoeba's consciousness is not the lowest level of consciousness. Atoms have a mind and are sentient too at some very low level, as are elementary particles. The simplest form of consciousness (sentience, mind) is a state of constant well being, which is experienced by indestructible elementary particles.
Everything that exists is conscious on some level.
I agree that reality exists whether or not it is witnessed.
@1971SuperLead So what we a really establishing is that you are reality impaired. There is no evidence of conciousness in energy, and while amoeba will react to stimuli that is different from having a concept of self. Basicly you know you are wrong, and so are trying to redifine things in ways that are not true and you have no evidence for. Please bring this conversation back to reality and start providing evidence for god, energy sentience, conciousness outside the body, and your other claims.
@Defenstrator A wave is not water. It is merely a form the water is taking. The water is not dead after the wave crashes. The water is not gone. Life is like water. It takes many forms but it's existence does not rely on forms. Conciousness is the same way. It takes many forms, but it needs no form to exist. Reality is not found in forms but in the contents that make forms.
Read the book A Course In Miracles.
Miracles are my reason for my faith in the eternal.
@1971SuperLead You're not a Jugalo are you? You don't go around stating obvious natural phenomena are actually miracles. Becuase what you are saying does not even make sense. Obviously life needs forms, that's whey some things are alive and others are not. Trees=alive. Rocks=not alive. And we have already established that conciousness needs something to exist. Or are you still saying you can pull out your brain and still be able to write these messages. Try it. Go on, I dare you.
@Defenstrator, You can understand that everything you see and touch consists of eternal matter and eternal energy and that you yourself are powered and made of these eternal ingredients. You also can understand that time never ends. Yet you insist that this eternal matter, energy and time cannot save you from death because of changing forms . FORM IS ETERNALLY CHANGING. Why do you believe forms give and take life when no form lasts longer than a moment? You're surviving form changes every moment
@1971SuperLead I understand that you don't know basic biology. Just becuase people are made of water and carbon doesn't mean that water and carbon are alive. Assuming your form idea is true, which it isn't, you seem unable to grasp the difference between minor change ( I get older) and a major one (my body ceases function). If your body undergoes a major change of form (is set on fire and destroyed) the life goes with it.
@Defenstrator, You are a person who believes in lines. "This is me and this is not me. This is alive and this is not alive. There are minor changes and there are major changes." I suggest you start looking at your lines closer. Use a sub atomic microscope to look at your lines. Can you really find them? Start with the Line between what is you and what is not you. Can you really draw a perfect line between what is you and what is not? Then give me the exact moment you came into existence.
@1971SuperLead Why yes, yes I can. Like all normal humans being unattached to any kind of life support device I spend all my time being me and not attached to things. I have emotional and intellectual attachment, but that's not physical. As for coming into existence, I'm 37. I can assure you that I did not exist in any way 39 years ago.
Most of all, I fear menkind have lost all sense of Valour or Righteousness, and replaced those virtues with self-centeredness and zero sense of concience whatsoever, so that they may do as they wish, without remorse for harming others. Not so with real men........so few remain

1971SuperLead 11 months ago
