Wow! You rehabilitated a baby hummingbird? That is great! You have a gift & should appreciate it. If you can do that, you should volunteer at a wildlife rehab center. Never let that talent & kindness go to waste, people like you can help increase the number of birds out there to save their species which it makes a big difference to the environment & nature lovers. So keep up the good work, and God-bless you for being so kind to earth's creatures great and small. :]
It's funny that you used a cap to put sugarwater in, I used a coke cap to do just the same. I lived in an apt and decided to take walk towards my sisters apt even though I knew she was not home and that's when I heard a little chirp, I looked to what I thought was a little rock, it was a hummingbird! I couldn't believe it, but I took it home and as soon as I got in the door it flew. 2 weeks before i found the bird my grams gave me a small cage from thailand with a nest just her size.
That's amazing he's not afraid of you. He came over to you when you held out the stick for him to climb on. He could have run away or fought back. But I think he knew you were his friend. ^_^
we googled recipes on the the net for nectar preparation as well as local animal rescue agencies who sent some one to pick up the humming bird within a couple of days. good luck and good job. I think it's a once in a life time experience.
I just rescued a baby humming birds that my cats were playing with...hes not alot injured he just has a broken wing and cant fly..im not sure what to do..Any advice..Please help..And where can you buy nectar?
Call Fish and Wildlife and they may be able to refer you to a wild bird rehabilitator in your area. Also try veteranarians for referrals--make sure it has food and warmth. Send a private msg to people on youtube who have taken care of hummingbirds (like the one that posted this video) Good Luck!
Humming Birds are so tiny and fascinating to watch, even rarer to hold one. It was our treat. The trick of perspective is that the big straw we used to feed the baby was just a tiny little juice box straw, yet it looks so huge next to the Hummingbird.

@artslick Thanks for the feedback. We were amazed that it survived... I initially thought it was dead on the road. We haven't heard anymore about it since we sent it to the animal rescue. Now I'm curious...
