What if, instead of grabbing your wrist or your backpack, he just grabs you? Good luck with that. And for those of you unfamiliar with common sense, this is a rhetorical question. The principle of using what is at hand is quite functional, I'd just like to see far more realistic attacks because these are sad.
@MrMZaccone you must not really do much in martial arts .. it would be way harder grabing all than a small piece . more than 20 years tells me this . What hey run up and bear hug and attack I would rather grab as an attacker and have a hand free to hit, stab, control or defend. We are in green bay anytime you would enjoy seeing how realistic we do train feel free to set up an appointment to drop in . We are the most realistic in Green bay
@melars9 And you call that a "serious attack" ... I think you just made my point for me. I can site you a case for instance, of a woman who was grabbed, thrown to the ground, raped and beaten beyond recognition, by a stranger, without any apparent warning whatsoever, less than 100 feet from her back door. That's a serious attack. I'm not making a general criticism of what you're teaching, just saying that some of the attacks I'm seeing on the video are a bit lame and unrealistic.
@MrMZaccone believe me they aren't lame or unrealistic...the best defense /offense is to follow there movement and take advantage ..This is only a small bit, what am supposed to do a 30 yr video..These are just tidbits.. and what you mentioned was a real attack ....terrible. But was she aware ,did she know she was a target? We go through all of this in our classes. There are things to prevent the attack that most aren't aware of .
@melars9 Did you mean "their" movement? Yes, what I mentioned was a real attack and sufficiently random that it's unlikely she could have detected signs that she was a target. The woman in question was in her sixties at the time. Awareness is of course critical but understanding how to extricate oneself from the worst positions and situations possible is also a fundamental portion of self defense. I'm not being as critical as it may seem, some of what I've seen in this video is quite good.
@MrMZaccone anyone can make themselves less a target.. a dog.. a activation light that is set up to a dog noise in the house .. all inexpensive stuff. A buddy system...
@melars9 I especially applaud the use of the chair as a barrier in one of the scenes, however I then see the woman involved adopt a "fighting" stance of some sort when her main focus should be escape and evasion. This is not strategically sound.
@melars9 I'm not meaning to be completely critical, If I made a video I'd expect every Monday morning quarterback to pick at it and I'm sure you get a lot of that too. I applaud what you're trying to do for those who would otherwise be completely unprepared. Best of luck.
Great question thank you. Men use muscle and tension in there defense. Women at least most women don't have the muscle like a man. So most instructors teach a straight across the board martial arts system . You can't ! We teach the principle and apply it to women and children as well. As we all grow older we need to see this side of the coin. Nothing fancy no strength.. just survive
@barockeva In theory, the two should not vary at all but in reality women are usually attacked with different goals and assumptions in mind so the set of problems presented to them can be very different. In addition, many men will not listen when told to run away so a different set of solutions must generally be presented to them to deal not only with the attack but with the danger of their own misconceptions.

@melars9 I've been teaching professionally for 23 years. I've never heard of a serious attack being perpetrated like the ones in your video.

How exactly do womens self defense and mens self defense vary, if at all?
