I play an epiphone sg. Although i think my sg sounds just as good as a gibson. It's not just the amp that makes the guitar sound good, it's the player. Somebody might play a squier, and think it sounds like crap, but then a skilled player comes and plays the same thing and it sounds like gold.

I use an off brand sg and when i play it sounds great, I think paying $2000 bucks for a guitar when you get great tone anyways is a waste

My epiphone sounds just the same as any gibson, its all about the amp and pickups = fact. Gibsons are for the true rockstar even though pricks like you buy them to act cool. its all about the guitar skill.
