  • Very pschedeliuc stuff ... I'm flying in other dimensions when I hear this ... Epic sound

  • the flute in this sounds like the pipe playing in Kill Bill vol2 when Bill describes the five-point palm exploding heart technique.

  • Saw this cat in Ann Arbor twice and in NYC at the Village Vanguard in the 80s, what a lovely trip

  • Saw this cat in Ann Arbor twice and in NYC at the Village Vanguard in the 80s, what a lovely trip

  • sounds like its in 5/4 . . . .yes?

  • i live on a planet i call my own

  • an epiphany; sounds of the gods indeed. if there is a soundtrack to heaven, this is it.

  • a catharsis in real time; put on the headphones, crank it up and groove and

be taken away to a different plane; if the arguement can be made for a man to be touched by god, here it is: he is a god unto himself.

  • MOST FUN CONCERTS EVER! ESPECIALLY FIRST 10 MINUTES almost always FULL BLAST NOISE cleared the rifraff yknow..........SUNNY, JUNE, JOHN THE BAND I miss you so very very much

  • Why don't you make this where it can be shared? How can you turn on people to shit like this without being able to share the track? It's not like people are gonna get turned on to this stuff by walking into a record store!

  • Vi este Senhor a actuar em Vilar de Mouros em 82.Os meus pais levaram-me :)

  • wow -- I thought of wandering around the west, too, now that you mention it....also outer space floating feeling....also being in the womb....just loving this tune over and over, thank you so much for posting! I am interested in who is playing bass and wondering how the drummers got the clacking sound. Also, all the little soft bell type sounds. Really fine work. Sun Ra. Wow. What a blessing that man was and is to so many.

  • @9monava The clack was some sort of woodblock...sounded like he was dampening his cymbal with his hand while he played on the bell

  • reminds me of wondering around the American west

  • Incredible !

  • angels and demons at play

  • i imagine this is what space sounds like when you float in it

  • embedded in the meat of my skull.

  • so so so wonderful

  • Dude this was made in 1956? That seems fucking impossible but it is sun ra and he is great. sounds like this was just made.

  • anyone know what kind of flute this is?

  • @spaceistheplace0 sounds like a pan flute or a recorder

  • can you discern angels and demons. Have you learned to recognize them on your own?

  • Any one know a good staritng to listen to sun ra album?

  • live at montreaux-play it loud and often until it becomes a permanent part of your existence-it will serve as a heliocentric guide thru the omniverse-rocket #9 to that place of space

  • @MrP945 This is a question I kept wanting an answer to & never really got one. The first album that turned me on to Sun Ra was "Lanquidity" but there's no one album that sums him up. Maybe try one of the compilations like "Greatest Hits: Easy Listening For Intergalactic Travel" which covers a lot of ground in around 20 tracks.

  • @MrP945 start w the old stuff late 50s by late 60s hes waaaaaay out; other easy ra = lanquidity, purple nights, cosmic worlds i think

  • The Sun shines bright!

I'm glad I got the chance to see him before he left us.

Thanks redskull - Love this one!

    CHEERS!

  • OH MY GOD

  • The spare instrumentation here is elemental.I want to hear it all the noisy ,polytime, polychord messes .this is otherwordly and the lenght adds to this. How special they are.

  • Piano / trumpet "When There Is No Sun"

  • I like the surprise factor with Sun Ra, you never know what you are going to get, and if you keep listening over time, it seems to grow and change in mysterious ways.

  • thats exactly the way i fell my friend...different mood of music in every album. But im trying to find an album of ra that he playes only piano any suggestion or at least piano...

  • No suggestions, I'm a Sun Ra newbie, I only have a few albums, and I only know what I hear samples of at Amazon and YouTube.

  • ahh.. Sun Ra ive never heard before is always a delight.

  • beautiful piece. He was one of the originators of eccentricity.

  • es mi primer experiencia con el señor sun ra.. esta de luxo!!!

  • sugue escuchando y escucharas el universo

  • Classic dopeness.

  • One of birmingham alabamas finest native sons!!

  • Best Sun Ra period - fifties, but sixties are also interesting.

  • I think the early seventies were his best period...

  • Really? Which album would you recommend? Thanks.

  • lanquidity for certain

  • OK, I put Lanqidity on my purchase list.

  • why am I only finding out about Sun Ra?

  • this full my head whit ideas and feeling, is just simply one of the best songs i heared

  • I have heard another more recent version of this in 1998 and I still have it taped off of the radio, with female vocals. Don't know who it was by, some kind of latin jazz, searching for it and I came across this and it's pretty amazing. I thought that the track I heard was original lol, never knew this existed. So glad I have happened across it.

  • keep in mind this was recorded in 1956. revolutionary!

  • Ive been trying to find the album that this song is featured on, do you know what it is from?
