  • I doubt your explanation of Kal is a vietnamese word. Kal came from Sansaskrit (equivilent of Latin) Look it up. Kal means to wish or consideration. So Dangkal is a wish and consideration pole. It is accurate. It is stupid to say Khmer go to make wishes at a flag pole. To say Khmer people go make wishes at Wishing Pole, it is accurate.

  • The story of Preah Ang Dong Kal got nothing with the Viet word.

Khmer people saw a Dong flip flop on the river for a long time and they wished that Dong to disappear but the Dong never disappear so Khmer people offered Baisei and asked that Dong to disappear and the Dong was disappeared so Khmer people believed that Dong was a miracle and named Preag Ang Dong Kal.

  • King Sisowath or King Norodom was on a ship from Philippine to Cambodia and there was a big storm, so the King asked Preah Ang Dong Kal for safety so the King arrived back in Cambodia safe and sound, since then Khmer people always believed Preah Ang Dong Kal.

  • it call Donk KaL not Donk ker omg

  • Dang = pole. karl=time that in Kmer meaning .Dangkarl not Dang aer

  • Your explanation of where the place got its name from is credible, but it is unknown how reliable your source is. Well...it's just a video after all, not a paper published in a journal. And I hope you explain to your students the word 'bom-non' at the end of the video comes from the root word 'bon' which means to pray and that 'lia' in this context means to let go. Thankful to the answered prayer is kinda correct, but ...anyway i'm running out of space here.

  • this is great

    include subtitle please

  • sorry, no can do. Extreme Khmer is intended for people who speak Khmer beyond beginning level. my way of thinking is, there are plenty of sources out there about Cambodia in English, this one happens to be in Khmer!

  • What Vietnamese got to do with Khmer Preah Ang DANGKAL?

    I've never heard that before.

What I heard, Preah Ang Dankal was named after Preah BOROM baramei has never been destroyed by many wars. DANGKAL means DANG STAY STILL ALWAYS that makes miracle.

  • It's explained in the video. ដង means pole in Khmer, កើ (cờ) means "flag" in Vietnamese, the term refers to a flagpole, I think it's pretty obvious. There's no point in trying to explain away the origin of the word just because there's Vietnamese in it (like they try to in the magazine article in the "extras" for the episode on studykhmerDOTcom)...

  • I know what its explained about, but IT IS WRONG to mix the Vietnamese word in the Khmer sacred place like Preah Ang DANGKAL.

  • I love your show Preahko, keep it up please. Its really entertaining and educational. And please make it fast, cause i can't wait. :)

  • I got robbed at this shrine, well actually someone pick pocket my money despite ignoring the man yelling over the microphone to be careful of pick pocketers. Silly me I thought the crowd was a good crowd when I was paying my respects to the shrine. I was robbed $40,000 Riels when I was about to give a donation. Robbed by my own countrymen. :( It's okay I learn something even more about the shrine from your video. My parents said that it's a powerful spirit. Thats why people go there.

  • HAHAHA!

  • I used to go there with my grandma and daddy all the time when I was in Cambodia but never know the history of its. Thanks for the information Preahko.

  • another awesome episode!
