Always remember watchin this, as a kid, but where was it actually filmed? Charlie's school teacher speaks with a British accent, Roy Kinnear - Mr Salt - is British, as is also the Candy man, by the sound of his voice. It looks as though the location shots were filmed in the Netherlands, Switzerland or Germany. Can anyone tell me?

After doing research, I found out that the Oompa Loompas were actually black slaves living in Willy Wonka's factory, and this was changed in more modern times to be more politically correct, so they were now illustrated with orange skin and green hair.

The Oompa Loompas were on an island that had a lot of cocoa beans to steal which was of course Africans. Funny how we all grew up on this story and never knew what the old version was like.

Why do you love this? Roald Dahl detested and denounced it. I read his book as a boy before I saw the video and when I did I was not thrilled. The supporting cast is treated like trash, with little screen time, an early exit, and no final scene. Wonka feels the need to test the honesty of each child, but he knows each outcome in advance. How does Slugworth get around the world unnoticed? And how does Wilkinson know that Charlie and Veruca will find a ticket before they do?

The oompa loompas seem more like unwilling slaves than happy workers saved from a dangerous environment. They are humorless and no one takes much notice of them beyond the chocolate room, let alone their performances. In charlie, everyone who had something to from the songs was present to hear them. They took notice of the songs, too.

Roald Dahl wrote the script for it, but most of it was discarded for the work of an anonymous author.
