  • Great video!!!

Excellent explanation of the basics of a helicopter. And to everyone saying he left stuff out - yes. I'm fairly sure it takes more than ten minutes to explain EVERYTHING there is to know about helicopters and aviation.

  • Not a chance. I've watched this vid 2 or 3 times already...I would crash straight away. There seems to be alot of 'feel' that goes into flying a chopper. There's an awful lot to understand. Lots of sim time would be needed before I could even think about doing this. Looks like fun though!

  • if you can make a donut with your manual shift car you can fly a helicopter just need some practice

  • I always thought that helicopters have very limited gliding ability, and that was what made them so dangerous (relatively speaking). Great vid.

  • 1 person failed helicopter school

  • I DON'T THINK THE REGULAR PERSON STILL UNDERSTANDS HOW IT WORKS, YOU'VE NOT GIVEN THE REASON PITCH AND SPEED CREATE LIFT.

    GIANFRANCO FRONZI

  • Great beginning concept of helicopter flying. Thanks

  • theres truly NO vid on how helicopters fly.........

  • @leviterande Did you not watch the video it was pretty clear

  • I'll stick to my plane. Helicopters scare me, lol. Nice video though and interesting.

  • Excellent video! What is the song please? I love helicopters!

  • so do you have to hold the collective the whole flight? or does it lock in place like an e brake?

  • VERY NICE AND VERY INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU...

  • Yes. Don't you ever erase this video, It will be helpful for me later on. I'll bookmarket

  • imagine if they used an apache to make this video.

i bet the number of view wouldn't be this low

i wanna fly an apache, and just in BF:BC2

  • wow I did not now how complex flying is. I thaught that it just increase hight to requried hight and push forward and not worry about the hight stick.

  • What type of helicopter is that? It looks a bit like an R44 but I'm not sure!

  • @ianrkav Nope, this is a Rotorway A600 Talon. Its a kit.

  • @HunterPilot24 Ok thanks for that. I thought originally it was some kind of developement of an R22/44 maybe, but I've just googled it and yeah it's a Talon. Now I know:-)

  • do ALL helicopters have that 4 limb steering system? im talking like the apaches and those military helicopters?

  • @locomex713 Yes, they all use collective for up down and cyclic for forward, back, left and right.

  • @socratic101 so if you can fly a ultra ligth helicopter you can probably fly a apache? or like a chinook?

  • @locomex713 Probably not! The level of complexity of helicopters is VERY different - for example, a recip engine operates very differently from a turbo jet (never mind one or two engines). Rigid, semi rigid and fully articulated rotor heads are very different and require specific training. Gettng the idea?

  • @socratic101 there diferent types of helicopters beacuse of the engine? what are the categories and can you give more detail on the differences maybe make a video that explains it please?

  • @socratic101 thanx for the response

  • @socratic101 what happens if you are flying low level and the engine fails or

if ur flying across the ocean then what happens with altitude too low for autorotation

    or no place to land

  • @danielpilot95 The guy in the helicopter is also an instructor.... here is his response:

All aircraft have limitations that if exceeded can ruin your whole day. You have identified a couple limitations of the of the conventional helicopter. There are two height vs. velocity operating regions where it may not be possible to establish a stable autorotation after an engine failure. Too fast and close to the ground and you may contact the surface before the pilot and aircraft can react.

  • @socratic101 thx for the response and btw i kno that engine failure is a rare chance and helicopters

are well maintained so its safe to fly low across the ocean or a body of water

  • IM gonna be flying those someday

  • don't see a full-down auto very often. Nicely done.

  • Great video!...very informative... I am going for my first lesson next week and this really helped ease my nerves. :)

  • @carbs66 nice to know you share interest in helicopters.. may i ask where you are learning? and if you are entering a commercial helicopter training field?? I'm going to start learning too but its a lot of money and i need to know if i will be able to pay back the loan. Thank you :)

  • That's a nice helicopter !

  • Love this guy's shoes, hahahah! they match his mustache.

  • Very informative, thanks for posting.

  • very informative(Y)

  • That's got to be the easiest quiz in history. You don't need to think much if at all before answering.

  • great course for new studends ...5 stars

  • 5 stars!!!!!!

  • can't they make these things automatic? up down left right?

  • thank you very much, it is very informative... more videos please

  • What is that big grey thing at the bottom between the skids?

  • Maybe the heli was pregnant.

  • @ErasmusIII

i guess a external fuel tank

  • @dumapies it's actually just a storage pod.

  • thanks , great vid.

  • thank you very much
