However he fails to mention WHO the insurance companies will be competing for. They would would be COMPETEING for the healthiest among us, still leaving the old sickly and poor out in the cold without any health insurance coverage. Bush warmed over.
Right, those with preexisting conditions aren't acknowledged. I have been denied by three insurance companies because I have preexisting conditions (for which I take two prescriptions that treat the issue just fine). I even had trouble getting coverage that only covered emergencies. Whatever health care system we have in place, wheter public, private, or mixed, must deal with with the denial of coverage and refusal to cover preexisting conditions.
Did he just say that they are going to improve the heath care options for businesses by taxing them and then giving employers a $2500 coupon? The $12,000 average he stated costs the company about $8,400 now. How is making that same plan cost $9,500 going to help them offer decent insurance options.
Companies will purchase the cheapest insurance they can because of the better cost:credit ratio. That may be okay in after prices get competitive, but short term we all get Walmart insurance cards.
This is because in this field, quality is decided almost entirely by budget, not by competition. The biggest company always will have the best service, thus more people will flock to it, naturally bringing about a monopoly, or at the very least a small number of enormous companies.

Markets don't work in healthcare because it is a natural monopoly, just like the road system, the fire department or the military.
