Their run was over 260 mph and their best run was over 267 mph with the VG30DETT V6 twin turbo street engine with great modds. Bagatti Veyron just over 407 km/h. Leave it to the Japanese to pull a rabbit out of their hats.

i don't understand how 251 can be any speed record when we can watch all day long cars beat that in the 1/4 mile

throw a 4000 hp Keth black in there it will go over 251

and there are production cars with 800hp doing 250's

Land speed racing isn't simply about the speed, but also the distance. Sure, you can cobble a car together to do the 1/4 quickly, but how many of those cars that do the quarter in 250 can handle having the loud pedal on the floor for longer than 7-10 seconds? Not many.

How long do you think it takes this mustang to cover 5 miles WFO?

Consider that and you'll begin to understand what Land Speed Racing is about. and why it draws a certain kind of genius.

Actually its an 09 Mustang... It marks the anniversary that Glenn Thompson set the land speed record in the 69 mustang.. hence.. an 09 mustang was built for his son Danny Thompson to try and break the record again... I live about 2 blocks from where this car was built... Ames, Ok,, lil town.. population 98.. on a good day...

Why is it wrong? the car did go 251.9 and the record for that class was 250. He was not able to complete the second pass so he is not the record holder, yet. stay tuned.

To "break" a record you must first qualify and then back the run up the next day. The record is the average of the 2 runs. This car qualified but was not able to break a record because it was not backed up.

The record for C/BFALT was in fact set at speedweek by #80 Hinton Performance Buick @ 254. with an exit speed of 259.7.

Unfortunately, qualifying does not mean breaking. I have no doubt that we will see more of this car in the future and wish them all the success they seek.
