the movie is not based on Sherlock Holmes books. It's based on Lionel Wigram's comics. that's the reason why the main character doesn't look like the Sherlock of Conan Doyle

As a fan of the canon I'm not overly impressed with the trailer, as others have commented below it looks like it's going to be another Hollywood action movie, which could work but I feel it'll lose something that the original works had.

Jude Law as Watson doesn't fit for me, he's a bit too young but that's me being picky. Also Watson kicking down a door? ...interesting.

All in all if this film helps to show a wider audience the wonder of Holmes, then rock on, but I'm not overly keen.

These reviewers are just quote-whores. All they do is praise the trailer which makes the film look like Indiana-Jones meets Victorian Britain. Never mind that Sherlock Holmes is a man of the mind and not an action hero. Why does Arthur Conan Doyle's work have to be turned into standard Hollywod action fare with loud explosions, cool dialogue, and lame humor. This is what these two self-proclaimed reviewers should be asking. The trailer for the movie does not intrigue. It worries!

Well I do agree Holmes is more of a man of the mind but in the stories there are often a lot of times where Holmes mentions he gets into fights. They're just showing fights within the movie also to reach more audiences. Now if they make Holmes stupid and all he uses are his muscles then we have a problem. I dont have a problem with him uses both when necessary.

Read the stories. Holmes and Watson are badasses. When Watson and Holmes first meet, Watson is coming back from some war in asia, i believe. He's recovering a morphine addiction and gunshot wounds.

I don't like the sexed up Holmes, though. He's never quite a ladies man in the books, Watson is the one with the girl troubles.

Anyhow, Holmes was like a victorian era martial arts expert. I believe he's supposed to a good shot with a pistol. expert swordsman, boxer, and cane fighter.

Well Holmes isn't sexed up in this movie. The girl is actually Irene Adler, who in the stories, is Holmes match in intellect and he actually grudgingly respects her. She's his love interest in the stories too, if i remember correctly, so i don't think there's anything wrong with that..

I love this. It keeps the quaint characters, but some of the things that make Conan Doyle so hard to read need to channge. Almost all the original stories hinge on a woman seeing a problem and going off to become mentally ill. Like in Dancing Men, Muscgrave Ritual, Speckled Band, Solitary Cyclist. I want a tough lady in the story. I think its cool. If Doyle thinks its better for women to fain and develop brain fever until they are rescued, let him roll in his grave all he wants. Looking good.

It may be that the original stories represent women negatively and that the film should feature strong women. However, the trailer makes it seem as if the essence of Conan Doyle's work is changed. This trailer bears no resemblance at all with the original stories. The thing does not look good. It could hardly look worse.

Intriqueing and can't wait to see this "sizzler" SHERLOCK HOLMES hit the big screen come this Fall 2009! I find the new outtake on Holmes/played by multi talented Actor Robert Downey Jr & his working Partner Dr. Watson played by the equally talented Actor Jude Law quite fascinating indeed. Just don't stay too far away from the origional SHERLOCK HOLMES in whom is a treasure/Character he & DR. WATSON World. Their very serious so I hope they keep their characters true. It looks great!
