  • OH MY GOD!! That boy at 0:53 is so cute!

  • 1:16 : "I don't want to have to go all the way into a paddock to play guitar."

  • Love this ad - it still says it all and so well. The latest reputable climate science is now telling us we have 60 months left to take dramatic mitigation action before an unstoppable aggregation of tipping points take over from direct anthopogenic effects. Even allowing for when this ad was made, it means most of these kids will be damned before they can vote!

  • I am asking fellow Greens this. Should we come out as a party and demand that Obama take BP into conservatorship/recievership? I think this would really be something many progressives would agree with. Please let me know what you think. Good Idea bad idea indifferent? Maybe I could start a FB page for it. Go Green Party!

  • The Labor Party freed up the constrictive fixed system the rich had in place for centuries: now on to an elected second chamber with either Labor or the Dems. If the Conservatives were in again I imagine they would re-close bars at 11pm and make smoking compulsory everywhere.

  • why are they all irish?

  • @Olekander Not all of them!

  • i dont want my kids to grow up in a poluted hell hole because of what we adults did to the world. we are responsible for our own future and our children future and when the next generation take over they need to care for the envoirement and know what to do. so lets give the kids a head start and help the envoirement now.

  • future voters

  • I wish that these shameless Eco Nazi's would stop using innocent children as political stooges. They know no shame, but whenever a person joins a fanatic cult, in there twisted minds any means to their ends is just a beautiful thing.

  • The Green party can't do any of those things. LMAO

  • I would like to be less brainwashed by scare tactic Ads with no real science behind their goals other than star trek and Twilight Zone stories.

  • im the fifth kid in the video but that video was a good while ago

  • I wish there were more jobs

I wish there was clean energy

    I wish... I could fly

I wish, people would be nice to each other

    I wish for world peace!

I wish The Smiths would reform and go back on tour

    Vote green!

  • Green Twits vote for them at your countrys peril

  • Vote green

  • What a nonsense party the Greens are.

White British people will be a minority in England by the year 2040 if current immigration and immigrant birth trends continue as they are. I'm sending out a warning to you from where I live, Wood Green north London. Here there British population has disappeared - I am one of the only English people living here. It's sad and makes me upset that I have to live here. I don't want English people to be a minority in the UK.

    I'm voting BNP June 4th ☑

  • This is an IRISH green party video. If you like english things so much why are you watching an Irish video? Seems odd!

  • What a pile of toss, you scared little man.

  • This is gas!

  • this load of idiots by that i mean the green party and especially caroline lucas mep have just left the tax payers of kent in the uk a bill for 2.6 million pounds they protested outside of a power station they have just contributed towards a ban on certain chemicals ask them what products will be banned and they dont know if they had their way we would be back in the dark ages a bigger lot of idiots i have yet to meet

  • I'd like to congratulate those greens who got out when then could. Rudderless ship indeed.

  • so where is the popularity of the green party in the UK? I like this, an add like this for a party wouldn't air in the USA for a PARTY...

stuff like the rich and stuff..., wow - this is really awesome

  • this is cute...

  • I saw most of these kids at the latest education protest in Dublin shouting anti-government chants!

  • Well you made a polished video, got the votes & turned your back on the kids. Well done! €€

  • id like the greens 2 b the first political party in ireland 2 tackle the immigration issue in ireland

  • Hi guys,

Great ad, well done at the sharks awards. One more for the small guys. keep up the great work.

  • This ad won a Butterfly award, well done!!

  • I counted two children (of how many?) with accents I grew up around and that I would characterize as "everyday" accents - ie. working class accents that, it seems, to me at least, is most prevalent in Dublin.

What does that say about this piece of media?

Or the general media for that matter in which its quite a rarity to hear a working class accent anywhere on TV or radio - to the point that it sounds "odd" when its heard.

It says middle class cultural projection, middle class bollox!

  • That is one of the most touching political advertisements I've ever seen. I have tears in my eyes.

Now is the time to become a member of your local Greens branch. All over the world, people are realising that democracy is about more than voting, it's about being engaged with fellow citizens on a day to day level.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of this clip. That was truly inspirational.

  • dawnrun911 : i would vote for him

  • Btw, still awaiting a reply to the complaints i made to Trevor at his clinic four weeks ago and me e-mail to John Gormley on the same day. Once they get into government they feel they no longer need to represent the public, very democratic from pary with what % of the vote?

  • Irishman, maybe you'd identify yourself 'cus I don't want to be associated with a slander of Trevor unless what you say is true. It seems a bit out of character though. Is it an issue I could help you with?

    Ciarán

This is a copy of an e-mail ciaran sent me after i posted a comment about Trevor Sargent. He disabled comments on the video after my response. Dont you just love a party that practices censorship

  • whats the difference between the greens and the new harry potter book, the greens sold out quicker.traitors.enjoy being berties bitch

  • and kenny is better?

  • nice ad!

  • Sure, and then they form a government with Fianna Fail.

  • If I were a politician, I would ensure that all kids have 24/7 care, that all mothers would be paid a salary to stay at home or to employ a Nanny. THen all kids would have adult care and supervision and all mothers would be respected. Lone Parents work 24/7, thats 168 hours a week caring for children and they are paid 1 euro an hour. I would give all mothers 24/7 salaries so they have the possibility of employing homehelp and having some time off.

  • Sounds good what are you going to do put a gun to my head to pay for it?

  • I would like all cars to be 3L V8s, I would like people to burn their rubbish, I want to dump sewage into rivers, lakes, and the sea. I want litter everywhere and a nuclear waste dump on the hill of Tara.

  • You should start your own party so. I hope you have an economic policy to match. If only cockroaches could vote, eh?

  • Ah no, you would be surprised who would vote!, suue look at all the people who vote for Fianna Fail!. When I start my party (the Who Gives A Fuck Party) I will be aiming for Fianna Fails base voters!.BURN YOUR RUBBISH!!

  • You are my hero!!!! I am serious and also lets make villifing the rich a crime.

  • Research Finds That Earth's Climate is Approaching 'Dangerous' Point 05.30.07

NASA and Columbia University Earth Institute research finds that human-made greenhouse gases have brought the Earth's climate close to critical tipping points, with potentially dangerous consequences for the planet.

It never stop to be amazed at what people would like to believe rather than the truth!

  • Looks like the child labour paid off.

  • gets my Third choice...

  • I couldn't vote - because this government wouldn't change polling to Sunday and Ireland doesn't have a postal vote - but, if I could have voted, I would have voted for those kids.

  • Very clever ad. Will make a lot of ill informed people vote for them. It's only fault is that it doesn't give a single real policy. The idea is one of the best i have ever seen for a party.

  • Yeah...........

  • Please please please urge anyone under 30 to vote Green next week..our generation need to take charge of this country for every single reason listed in that broadcast..

  • ill vote green on thursday, just for originality in their election broadcast!

  • Well that is a wasted vote. That sort of idiocy and ignorance is why democracy sufferes. You are an total prat of you are being serious.

  • That was a really nice video. I hopw the Green Party will get some seats in the next governement because the environment is such a crucially important issue.

Vótáil an Comhaontas Glas ar 24 Bealtaine 2007.

  • If theyre so green why do they put up thousands of election posters all over the country. dont get me wrong but i like the greens, but some of the things they come out with are a bit hypocritical. Id like to see a FF/GP/SF coalition myself

  • Maybe there will be a FF-Greens coalition. The Greens used to have "radical" but sound policies on vaccination and fluoridation, but changed them recently, as if to appease FF. Details on the taint-dot-org blog about "dont vote green in Dublin Central" Anyway Bertie is Green now. Even Rupert Murdoch has turned Green.

  • We can bring back the old days again when all the world was green. Make your voice count. Vote whatever you believe.

  • Do you have any idea how elections work? If you don't put up posters nobody will know about you, nobody will vote for you, and then the country is screwed for another 5 years.

The greens have put up fewer posters than most other parties.

The Greens are the party that has proposed limiting election posters to specific locations as opposed to the current free-for all. That would reduce the resource wastage too. And it would save the appearance of our streets.

  • well i certainly dont vote on people coz of how nice there posters are. If they are doing there job the communty should know about them already. thats the way i see it anyway

  • I don't think many people vote based on how nice a candidate's posters are. But many people are aware of the candidates and their parties because of posters.

Knowing about them by default? That's more the case with councillors than TDs.

Fact is, if a party didn't put up any posters, they would just lose. Candidates have to be able to stick in peoples' minds.

  • COME ON THE GREENS!!!!!

  • as a member of the green party and candidate in the election im proud to be involved well done the green party it really gets to the point

    tom harpur

  • haha i know soooo many people in this clip, including me haha...but fair play to venom for putting together, it turned out BRILLIANT well done with using children to get the message across, it's actually making politics sound good haha

  • Very powerful - hard to argue that our kids are going to inherit a pretty rubbish quality of life if we don't wake up and change course. Feels like no one else is willing to face the big picture and do something about it...

  • I would never vote Green No1 but I have to say that was very impressive and I really like it - very positive - although the bit about companies not giving money from politicians came over a bit hammy - I don't think that was my priority when I was 10. Nevertheless, can't fault the sentiment. Might give them a very high preference now - although I've have to write it on my hand to remind myself!

  • well done - creative, to the point and with heart -exactly the qualities we want our government have! good luck in the election you have my vote

  • Great video and inspiring message!

  • Top class party political broadcast. Very clever.

  • wow impressive i no who id b giving my vote to if i was able

  • Well done Greens - Best PP Broadcast yet - tonight you have won my vote.Tara

  • Very black and white approach to things. Nice idea, but just adds to my notion of the greens that they lack any sort of realism. Yeah, we all want those things, but how are we going to get them? The video doesn't answer these questions at all and so it wouldn't convince me at all to vote for them.

  • who wants to convince a tulip with a moniker.

  • Really effective and orignall in its ideas, so much better than yesterdays political leaders in a political broadcast.

  • A very fresh approach to what are usually very stuffy and dubious broadcasts . This mirrors the optimism of a Party which has little or no baggage. It is about a brighter future, a multi-cultural all-inclusive new Ireland. Well done to the Greens on their innovative approach. Lets hope they bring this creativity imaginative approach to government.

  • i no a good few peeps in that broad cast and it wasnt all scripted! so :P!

  • oh come, people who are giving out about this, everything those children are saying is absolutely true. yeah it was scripted, but its a very effective way of getting the party's point across and deffinatly the first and only political broadcast that made me think about my vote as opposed to overweight pompous old farts from FF and FG sprouting on about what they've done and blowing their own trumpets. its about time this country had a radical change in values.

  • But that's the point. What HAVE the Greens done? Absolutely feck all. They're a bunch of dreamers. Lovely ideas, but not a hope in hell that they'll deliver.

  • You think they shouldn't be in power just because they haven't been in power? It's not easy to run the country when you're in opposition. What would you expect them to do?

  • Wow, now here's a political party broadcast that makes me feel optimistic about the future for a change. left me smiling. innovative and beautifully shot.

  • Ireally enjoyed it.I felt it brought home my responceability to my children.

The fact it uses children in the aid is nice as I believe this is thier way to have a voice.I will vote Green as always.

  • wooooooooow! i'm in that! yay me!

  • What a creative and effective way to show Green policies that the kids in all of us can understand; no corporate millions to make it or borrowed international leaders needed to convey good honest, practical and leading policy ideas: way to go Greens and lets all do our thing and VOTE GREEN to make Ireland a better place for all of us

  • Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrring

  • You got no soul dart 22

  • and the fact that most of your posted videos are from the Eurovision speaks volumes. No soul - and no brains.

  • Well done on an excellent personal attack there drillxyz. Are you going to insult his mother next?

  • Excellent film

  • look, its an effective ad but I am not sure you should be using kids in this way - are they old enough to consent to this? Can they make a political statement? Let them mature more before we publish their political views.

  • I'll be voting John Gormley, go Greens, let's get some real politics for the people and children going....

  • This is really impressive.

  • loved the video- it brings all the elections issues alive- if we elect all the green candidates standing then there will be a stronger emphasis on these issues for these children and us!

  • Never underestimate the power of one vote...it's time for politicians to return to being statesmen and doing what's right instead of doing for themselves!

  • its a brill add.. its my little cousin that is starting and finishing the add.. VOTE GREEN..

  • Very different and effective.

  • excellent, I'll be voting for my local GREEN PARTY candidate TONY McDERMOTT

  • "brilliant" really moving video, very emotional responce kids looked genuine not like actors but real kids with real issues i'll be voting for them.

  • We owe it to these and our own beautiful children and all the other disenfranchised children of the world to put our planet at the forefront of our minds at this election. It will take all of us to work together 100% to implement the policies necessary to reduce harmful emissions, to protect and replant the forests and to implement in our own sphere what is necessary for the very survival of our own and other species. Let's start by voting GREEN.

  • wow... I'm logged in as some random guy ... cause he left himself logged in UCC q+1.

but the vids already been favourited and rated. lol

    stevecork

  • Hmm; great concept, but executed badly.

The racial imbalance; only 3 ethnic, not exactly a fair reflection of the communities that make up Ireland now or indeed over the next 10 years...

No mention of one of our most under used industries; were an island yet I would find it difficult to mention any other island nation in the world that under utilizes its marine sector, mind you none of the other parties have either. Shame on you all!

  • yes it is Time

  • Excellent ad! I'd question whether it was good having a Dublin 4-accented girl complaining about her Dad working so far from 'hoah-me' but maybe I'm being cynical. Quite possibly the best PPB there's ever been, and worthy of votes for sheer creativity. :)

  • Very much agreed on the accent!

  • well done

  • EXCELLENT !!!!

gets the message across in v creative way

  • of course there's a point - too many people assume that you have to have TOTAL control to have some kind of influence in politics - even if the Greens get into any kind of coalition their contribution will be immense, so that green policies can be implemented to the benefit of all.

  • Junkhead, are you being sarcastic? Cos I hope you don't really think that's how politics works.

  • Killerbaboon, I'm trying to find something that isn't logical in my post... Even the PD's have had influence in coalition - despite having only 8 seats they've had ministers controlling Justice and Heath... please point out to me where my apparent lack of understanding of politics lies...

  • Damn, the one post I wish I could delete is the one that gets replied to! That is true, but I don't think the greens would get such powerful portfolios if they were to go into government. They wouldn't get finance or environment, and I can't see them doing much good in any other portfolio.

  • It is true that the coalition could be wary of the fact that a Green minister of the environment might prove too radical for them - on the other hand the coalition may believe that by putting a Green as environment minister could allow them to play the 'green card' and be seen to be taking a 'strong stanch on climate change' - phrases like these are quickly becoming political buzzwords (continued on next message)

  • - governments are realising that that the political climate is changing to the point where they MUST take an environmetal slant or risk unpopularity...I believe that whatever portfolio they're given, they'll do a good job regardless.

However even if the Greens don't get good cabinet portfolios, there is much influence they can exert in the Dail in the form of legislation, scrutiny, etc, all the usual legislative chamber functions, to help the environment..

  • They can have that in the opposition too. There's not a chance they'd get environment, it would be too much too soon for a single issue party like they are. I think they've some very good candidates and I'm even giving de Burca my fourth choice vote... but overall I don't think a coalition containing the greens would be much good for the environment at the minute.

  • I said environment. Jaysus. I meant economy!

  • People assume that the Greens are a single-issue party, and that protecting the environment will be bad for the economy- the Greens aren't a single-issue party, the only reason the Greens are historically associated with environmental issues is because thats the issue they take the most radical stand on -they have plenty of policies for all areas.

  • There's also plenty of jobs in emerging renewable energy industries - offshore/onshore wind farms, tidal generators, etc, all need technicians, engineers etc etc to keep them going. Businesses and firms specialising in energy efficent products will flock to Ireland, seeing a market for their products.

  • And, ultimately, climate change represents a much larger threat to the economy than green policies..in the long run, greening the economy is a much better idea than not doing so and suffering for it later.

I'm sure they COULD do the same in opposition, but given a choice between opposition and government...having government yields more influence.

  • Frankly I don't think we can afford not to have the Greens in government, in terms of the economy. Controlling the effects of climate change is only going to get more expensive, and I have no reason to think that the Greens will ruin the economy. Sorry, McDowell, shouting "commies!!" is not persuasive.

  • Have no reason to believe they'll ruin the economy? In fairness, they have zero economic policy and a very simplistic approach even towards financing their policies.

Also, it's time people started questioning climate change rather than just accepting it blindly. Yes, the climate is rising in temperature, but I'm quite skeptical as to what effect humans are having on this. Evidence seems to suggest that it's minimal.

  • According to the Irish Times, The Green Party economic manifesto is the best proposed by any of the parties running in this election.

As to your opinion on climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made of of thousands of the foremost experts worldwide, disagree completely with you.

I think I will go with the Irish Times and the thousands of experts, rather than with your rather lame opinions.

  • I'm not saying it's not happening, figures state that it is. But did we cause the Ice Age? Or the ending of the ice age? Or the period of global cooling in the Middle Ages? Climate operates on a cyclical basis, it doesn't remain constant all the time. It's currently re-emerging from a period of global cooling, and that is a fact. I'm not saying it's not happening, nor am I saying it won't cause problems. But humans aren't nearly as responsible for it as you might think.

  • Can you post a link to any peer reviewed science that substantiates your claim that humans are not entirely responsible for climate change?

The IPCC suggests that humans are responsible, at over 90% probability.

  • We had global warming and ice ages long before we had humans. Also global temperatures fell between 1945 and 1976 even though we had massive industrial expansion across the world.

Human beings are so arrogant thinking that they have more of an impact on the earth than Mother Nature and the sun! The Earth was around for billions of years before humans existed and will last long after we die out!

  • Mother Nature has always been around. It's impact is neutralised, i.e it gives out and absorbs carbon dioxide. Cars don't. Industry doesn't. You make good points but only rogue scientists agree with you. The earth was around for millions of years but we haven't been; and we wouldn't have survived the ice age! So why not try to avoid another?

  • "According to the Irish Times, The Green Party economic manifesto is the best proposed by any of the parties running in this election." - So my opinion on the issue is now null and void because some jounralist said so? The video doesn't answer any questions. It's very well shot and fantastically edited, but it provides zero information; at best it's irrelevant, at worst it's scaremongering.

  • your opinion is void because you're lying

  • What do you mean I'm lying? I'm saying I don't think the ad is an effective political ad. How on earth is that 'lying'?

  • Having read your posts, you're certainly a baboon. I guess you voted for a party that, despite a period of unprecedented economic growth, presided over a serious deterioration in the standard of public services and infrastructure - not to mention encouraging a property boom, based on houses of cards. Lets forget about the fact elected politicians should not pocket massive cash donations from businessmen.

  • Whereas FF have a policy that was promised in 2002 but yet to be implemented...

what is this ''evidence'' and why haven't the rest of us seen it?

  • I like it. Acting is definitely a lot better than some other party's broadcasts...

  • Yes, the actors in Labour's one aren't the may west. There is an Enda Kenny lookalike among them

  • says it all ! we need to give the Greens our No. 1 vote for our kids to have a future .... climate change beckons ever more rapidly.... Action Now !

  • Brilliant, in keeping with the innovative 'message in the bottle' Green Party Election Broadcast first developed by the Welsh and then Greens in Northern Ireland. Love the Dublin kid talking about his ouldfella's 'head been wrecked'!

  • very good

  • Inspired

  • That is a fantastic PPB, I have to admit. I don't really know enough about the Greens policies, but that would certainly make me consider them!

  • Why though? It's a nice video, but how it could make someone who doesn't know about the party want to vote for them, I really don't know.

  • Cool

  • I couldn't stop laughing. impressive makes me think about the whole thing in a different light and reminded me of when i was unable to vote and wanting to. it's cute and effective.

  • Fantastic! Really enjoyed it; never though I'd say that about a party political broadcast!

  • Please get your friends to vote greens.

  • Absolutely brilliant, best I have ever seen... It's def Time to Vote Green!
