Yeah, I'm with the black guy. A lot of chord progressions are really popular and catchy and keep being used like the one in The Beatles' "Let It Be" and Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry. And Eagle Eyed Cherry's "Save Tonight". Others are less popular and when two people use it, it seems like it was copied, although maybe it was, it happens all the time. Although it's usually called infleunce. What about The Offspring copying The Beatles' "Ob-la-di ob-la-da" in "Why Don't You Get A Job"?

He wrote the song for his wife. It was comprised of about 50 riffs. Coldplay took 1 riff and the chord progression and talentlessly played it 7 times. Thats not talent

Who else is saying that Viva La Vida was a copy of their song? Why shouldn't Joe mess with Chris? If he did copy it then we need to know because alot of the money viva la vida made could be because of Joe's influence. Coldplay's song is good, and actually better in my opinion, and Chris does sing with passion, but pretending that it wasn't at all Joe's work (if it was that is) is just wrong, and so he should sue them, we need to find out if they did copy him.

It's almost impossible to write a song that doesn't have similar chord progressions. Both songs are also similar to a song entitled, "Love Takes Time". Every 50's blues artist can sue each other and every rock and roller that came after them. John Mayer combines Hendrix and the Isley brothers to come up with "his" sound. It all depends on who's record company has the most powerful lawyers. There hasn't been anything original out there in a long time!

And a few friends of mine where at Uni in london in the same year as Chris and has said they felt that it was commonplace for the "cool" people to listen to Satriani. I'm still undecided but after talking to people coming from coldpalys old scene, I'm starting to think there may be some, maybe even subconscious influences.

Nope, well not that I remember! This'd prolly the first time I've mentioned it really, just heard it that day in work, made me go around looking for evidence to suggest otherwise. Part of me really thinks its pure coincidence though to be honest, people tend to enjoy taking as much credit out of people as they can. I really do think it is quite unlikely that Chris was at his concert. Creaky Boards used that same lame claim a few months ago, which was proven wrong. I think Chris Martin is an awesome powerful vocalist, and Joe is a great guitarist, but I think he's wrong. I think it's just coincidence, and there aren't enough sequential notes for the court. I don't hate Satriani, but I don't agree with him. Just my opinion.
