Theft progression from newest to oldest: Coldplay's "Vida La Viva->The Songs I Didn't Write by Creaky Boards-> If I Could Fly by Joe Satriani->Frances Limon by Enanites Verdes->Ding Dong Song by Gunther->J'en al Marre by Alizee->Hearts by Marty Balin->Foreigner Suites by Cat Steven->Dirty Diaper Blues by Babycheeks. Which seems fitting because the whole thing stinks.
Any sensible musician will say that it is exaggerated. The resemblance is surprising but the coincidence is far from being improbable. I am guitarist and several years ago I composed a theme of 9 notes completely similar to a phrasing from the piano concerto #3 of Rachmaninov. I had still never listened to this artist before! By chance, I 'm not so famous than Coldplay, I believe that one would judge me systematically...
Yeah, I'm with the black guy. A lot of chord progressions are really popular and catchy and keep being used like the one in The Beatles' "Let It Be" and Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry. And Eagle Eyed Cherry's "Save Tonight". Others are less popular and when two people use it, it seems like it was copied, although maybe it was, it happens all the time. Although it's usually called infleunce. What about The Offspring copying The Beatles' "Ob-la-di ob-la-da" in "Why Don't You Get A Job"?
OMG does this guy have no modest high being upon his body? Your views (*which i nod my head up and down to) are ruined by your laying in bed routine shame really talking of sean kingston.......... lol

joe writes his own music and coldplay jacked it and gave him no credit... thats plagerism dumbass... he's not a rip off like most mainstream artists, such as coldplay
Ok why are you doing a video blog with no shirt on in bed?
And by the way you are completely wrong. Just becasue two songs are similar does not mean that an artist ripped somebody off. Two people can write the same song especially if you are trying to write for radio or popular music. Theres nothing new under the sun man. And I really dont think coldplay listened to satriani and were like wow we gotta rip that off. Yea ok.
yeah I heard about that. I wasn't sure about the copying thing before, although I know Satch would know those things, but as soon as I heard THAT, all doubt was removed from my mind. There is no question. Colplay ripped it off, whether intentional or not.
theres a better theory explanation for the coldplay Vs Satriani for musically learned, check out the vids from youtube user: creativeguitarstudio. for the coldplay fanboys who never learn/pickup any instrument, you mite want to avoid the videos by that guy, its too much information for you ipod kids.
R&B and the blues are all based on the same musical principles so I dont think they should be taken into consideration when talking about plagerism.
Im not familiar with the Prince track.
As for Sean Kingston, thats sampling... sampling is not plagerism, its about taking a piece of prerecorded sound/music and reshaping it in your own way.... Im my opinion though the Sean Kingston song was absolute bollocks though lol.
Man this is soo annoying .people just come out of no where and start saying they copy my song then that then that people say Coldplay copied Joe, Alizee the french star, then later people are saying Joe copied Ematios Verdes these spanish band , people are saying that Joe copied guinther. MAN JUST STOPP EVERYONE STOP OK STOP WITH ALL PEOPLE COPYING OTHER PEOPLE OK MAN IF WE KNOW FORGET ABOUT IT, PEOPLE SHOULD BE ENJOYING MUSIC NOT FIGHTING OVER WHO SONG IS IT,
People like Joe are prime examples of a little something called "JEALOUSY".
just because Coldplay made a song that made a big hit, and that song happens to have a few similarities with his, doesn't mean he has to sue.
I'm sure Coldplay has better things to do than to go around stealing music from bald guitarists with shades who nobody even knows...at least, nobody with good musical taste.
I think your a little sad that one of your favorite bands turns out to suck so much they steal music.
Almost all serious Musicians know and praise Joe Satriani. Especially guitarists. If you don't know who is he then you have probably never picked up an instrument.
Satch has mastered musical theory and taught Steve Vai.
He wrote the song for his wife. It was comprised of about 50 riffs. Coldplay took 1 riff and the chord progression and talentlessly played it 7 times. Thats not talent
You have to know a little more about music than what you learn from guitar hero. Its in the same key, with the same chords (out of hundreds), in the same tempo, same progression, with the same note for note lead over the chord progression. Mainstream music is for music noobs who are too lazy to personalize their music. You have to search for good music. Not take the media's word for it.
Play something other than a guitar hero controller and youl realize how crap coldplay is.
Just because someone likes music that most other people like doesn't mean that they don't personalise their music, their taste just happens to be a common one.
And the songs are not the same tempo, chord progressions are extremely easy to get the same, the note for note lead was very similiar but not the same.
Not just a few similarities, alot, enough that it needs to be looked into whether they did copy him. Jealousy probably comes into it but that doesn't change the fact that their is a good chance they might have copied him.
It's like every artist want a piece of Viva La Vida, that is so sad. Trying to take credit for COLDPLAY'S song. Who's next? Britney Spears? To all the coldplay haters: stop assuming that just because someone is defending Coldplay means they know nothing about music cause I never heard such a dumb remark in all my life. satch lovers go fucking shoot yourselves! Chris Martin sings with passion wrotes from his heart, and has a one of a kind voice. Fuck Satch to mess with him!!!!!!!!!! >:I #W%$#@%$@
Who else is saying that Viva La Vida was a copy of their song? Why shouldn't Joe mess with Chris? If he did copy it then we need to know because alot of the money viva la vida made could be because of Joe's influence. Coldplay's song is good, and actually better in my opinion, and Chris does sing with passion, but pretending that it wasn't at all Joe's work (if it was that is) is just wrong, and so he should sue them, we need to find out if they did copy him.
It's almost impossible to write a song that doesn't have similar chord progressions. Both songs are also similar to a song entitled, "Love Takes Time". Every 50's blues artist can sue each other and every rock and roller that came after them. John Mayer combines Hendrix and the Isley brothers to come up with "his" sound. It all depends on who's record company has the most powerful lawyers. There hasn't been anything original out there in a long time!
dude wtf listen put a shrit on and coldplay didnt steal the song you asshole i support COLDPLAY 100% AND YOUR OBIVO WANT ATTENTION AND COLDPLAT DIDNT COPY LISTEN THEN GET YOUR FACTS STRAINGHT

What's up with this dude in bed? He is too lazy to get up and get dressed? That ought to tell you something right there. Coldplay didn't copy Satriani, he's not one of their influences. It's just coincidence. There was no ripping of going on here.
Someone had mentioned to me before that while in University, Chris Martin had attended a satch gig... And a few friends of mine where at Uni in london in the same year as Chris and has said they felt that it was commonplace for the "cool" people to listen to Satriani. I'm still undecided but after talking to people coming from coldpalys old scene, I'm starting to think there may be some, maybe even subconscious influences.
By the way, are you spreading this rumor? I've seen this exact same comment, worded the same way on other videos. You can be sued for slander you know.
Nope, well not that I remember! This'd prolly the first time I've mentioned it really, just heard it that day in work, made me go around looking for evidence to suggest otherwise. Part of me really thinks its pure coincidence though to be honest, people tend to enjoy taking as much credit out of people as they can. I cant imagine being sued for slander if I'm openly asking if anyone agrees with people from my place of work, I certainly question them! :)
I really do think it is quite unlikely that Chris was at his concert. Creaky Boards used that same lame claim a few months ago, which was proven wrong. I think Chris Martin is an awesome powerful vocalist, and Joe is a great guitarist, but I think he's wrong. I think it's just coincidence, and there aren't enough sequential notes for the court. I don't hate Satriani, but I don't agree with him. Just my opinion.
Yeah, makes sense really. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Part of me thinks its more Satriani's label (I think its "Epic" for that album) who are probably pushing it. With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write or have any influence on the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours. Coldplay.
There's a huge difference between using a 1,4,5 progression, and stealing the chord progression AND the rhythm AND most of all, the melody. Not to mention that Coldplay has admitted ripped people off.
Martin from Coldplay: With Brian he'd say, ''Listen to this Donna Summer track and then this Boyz II Men track.'' Then we'd listen to Rammstein, and I played him a Limp Bizkit song. It could be literally like that, so we were able to plagiarize from the most extraordinary places.
first you say many songs have same chord pogression, then your saying "accept this revoultuionary album?". it isn't revolutionary since its copying something.
and how would you like it if someone borrowed your finest paintings without telling you?

i'd like to think that chris martin didn't rip satch off and that we live in a fairy tale world of crazy coincidence, but that's not true. in 2002 chris martin mentioned joe satriani and then in 2008 says he's never heard of him...
You can think all you want, but there is no way to prove or disprove whether or not Chris Martin even heard the Satriani track before he wrote Viva La Vida.

Coldplay sells out stadiums. you guys think you can sit at your computer and listen to your shitty taste of music and say hmmm they sound a like, Coldplay must have copied...without going through any intelligent study of it
maybe satriani doesnt fills out stadiums. but thats because of ppl like you that doesnt even understand satriani's and a lot many musicans.they r not famous cause of ppl like u that thinks their music r shit
u should listen their music, but u wouldnt understand
if satriani would have appeared on mtv a few years ago, maybe a lot of ppl would have learned about the incredible musicans that are out there and arent known because of this shitty bands that covers great music
You obvioulsy know nothing about music theory because they have already done intellegent studies. The reason coldplay sells more is because 12 year old girls like you think their music is 'SOOO EMOTIONAL" and they see them on their covers and wet their pants. Satriani Makes his MUSIC sound good and leaves his IMAGE alone. Coldplay can go be in movies.
New Kids on the Block and Vanilla Ice sold out stadiums as well. That must mean that if you sell out a stadium your immune from wrongdoing, right? I love it when people try to look all smart and end up looking like a big dope! Drumroll....................! YOU ARE DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is wrong in so many ways..

Coldplay sells out stadiums. you guys think you can sit at your computer and listen to your shitty taste of music and say hmmm they sound a like, Coldplay must have copied...without going through any intelligent study of it
vivacoldplay 3 years ago
maybe satriani doesnt fills out stadiums. but thats because of ppl like you that doesnt even understand satriani's and a lot many musicans.they r not famous cause of ppl like u that thinks their music r shit
u should listen their music, but u wouldnt understand

if satriani would have appeared on mtv a few years ago, maybe a lot of ppl would have learned about the incredible musicans that are out there and arent known because of this shitty bands that covers great music

Coldplay covering Joe Santrian?! hahahah you are kidding right
vivacoldplay 3 years ago
yes cause coldplay wouldnt be able to cover any satch's song even if they studied music all their life
beyondlotu 3 years ago 2
thats pretty low to say Satriani would be just as famous as coldplay if they got on MTV
