  • Haunting, truly a storm, an internal storm of the heart and soul. Who cares if notes are dropped are missed, or rushed, when the ones that are played are played with such intensity and meaning?

  • it's realy storm!!!

  • I am a student of EvD. Trust me, none of you will ever realize this music with such musical maturity.

  • *could ever =P

  • What's wrong with all of you =[

i think sumthing like this with all of it's flaws is perfect whats beautifull music without its rushes its erratic behavior and a couple of wrong notes mabye the pianist wanted it like that on purpose you shouldnt bash on music with emotion.

i think this whole song its sound is better than most piano players ever could think up so stop hatin !

  • ljlimer I'll have to check out SBK. I'm partial to Pascal Roge, Martha Argerich and Krystian Zimmerman, at least for now.

  • Master pianists say snide things about other master pianists all the time. One of my teachers said that Kempff was simply laughable. Go figure. Kempff's interpretations seem to be more in demand than Dohnanyi's at any rate.

  • Such idiosyncratic timing! It sounds garbled at times. My teacher would flog any student for such extreme liberties. Thanks for posting.

  • You are not a great composer, pianist, piano teacher, conductor and Professor of Music like he was. He could take great liberties because his interpretations were in demand and respected.

  • ljlemer,

Don't be quick to take offense. Idiosyncratic means highly individualistic, not idiotic!

Of course Dohnanyi was a great composer, but that does not mean this was his best performance. It seems rushed at times, and has many errors. Only a mediocre person is always at their best!

My teacher, a professor at Cornell is a specialist at fortepiano, and prefers versions that stick close to the composer' original intention.

    I give artists more leeway.

    Interesting, but not my favorite...

  • I was not offended by your remarks at all. I still trust Dohnanyi's methods over anyone other than a master pianist's. My favorite pianist is

Stephen Bishop-Kovacevich. I wonder what he would say.

  • @k0rfuffler He was 73 at the time of this recording. With it's flaws I'll take it over the mindless, tasteless, and clumsy players popular today.

  • Wow, compared to mr. Goode, I am in a different world (despite some wrong notes)!
