The so-called progressive pundits 'buckle'; because their purist and uncompromising stance is untenable.

Dems DO NOT have the votes to deliver the perfect bill that the starry-eyed progressives dream of.

Yeah, we'll be better off with Palin as president so she can fuck things up REALLY GOOD then we can try to build this country back up when the working and middle classes are united unanimously. Too many people STILL don't give a shit and politicians and corporations are taking full advantage of that.
Don't think things are gonn aget a lot better until things get a lot worse.
@twochordcool I have been a life long Democrat. I have knocked on doors for gay rights, health care, Al Gore, Barak Obama, and Bill Clinton and i'll be dammed if some pissy progressives are going to kill what we Democrats have been fighting for. This bill extends Medicare for 10 years and covers 30 million people and does away with pre-existing conditions and not only that we have a chance to improve this bill if we killed the bill, health care reform would be dead for 20 years.
@lmcdowall Perhaps this bill is an okay starting off point, however, I think it's fair to call it an epic failure. Anyway you spin it we still aren't getting a public option, which means we don't have real universal healthcare. We'll have universal health care the same way we have universal drivers insurance. To the average American this bill is a burden. Maybe itll save some lives, but it'll most certainly run out of funding shortly and will end up very unpopular
@volcombillx3 It's a huge win to get health care reform at all...We have been trying to get this for generations...This is the start not the end just like civil rights, social security, medicare, you name it every signle liberal program started off weaker than what it is today. I think you are wrong this bill is not nearly as weak as you think. It reduces the national debt, provides care to those who did not have it befor and ends per-existing conditions, life time caps, and it is paid for.
He is a journalist. His job isn't to blow Obama and clap like an idiot to whatever happens. Btw he isn't called tyt. Learn to read before you comment.
I'm a Jimmy Carter voter. But I confess, I only voted for him in 76, and not in 80. 37% of voters are independent. Both democrats and republicans are guilty of blindly voting for whoever their party tells them to vote for. The important people who determine elections are the 37% who are independents.
As dissapointed as we may be with Obama. You have to admit it's not all his fault. You're forgetting the other liberal wuss, Harry Reid! Hell If I was Senate Majority Leader I would say to Joe Lieberman, vote I on cloture for a health care bill that includes a public option or I'm stripping you of your Homeland security committee chairmanship."
And Harry Reid has lost his spine to stand up and use reconciliation to get the parts of the bill ratified that REALLY need to be in it (e.g. public option, Medicare buy-in). He would only need 51 votes instead of 60, and the Republicans did it ALL THE TIME when they had control, but now all of a sudden it would make Democrats look like they are being too partisan if they suggest using this method? Give me a break. As much as it pains me to say this, the Democratic leadership is becoming a joke.
This government is out of fuckin control, whats next? martial law?
i think not. FUCK these assholes represent the corporations not the people, we need to make our own fuckin government with our own fuckin healthcare, and actually follow the constitution. AND IT NEEDS TO BE SECULAR
"Obama Made Mistake Not Putting Howard Dean In Cabinet"
I don't know why Cenk always insist the dems and obama are making "mistakes". They're not.. they're just placating to the corporations which is exactly what they always intended to do. There's no such thing as a party for the people in Washington.
Obama will imprison you for not spending money!!! He's making health insurance mandatory. If you don't want to spend money for it, you'll be fined. If you don't pay the fine, you'll be imprisoned!!! That's beyond Communism, Marxism, Fascism. It's Dumbassery!!!
The first time in America you'll be imprisoned for NOT spending money!!!
Obammy misuded the word precipice, can't stop stranger from eating with him, and keeps flying to Copenhagen to fail at things .. What a LOSER!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA
I'm getting disappointed with President Obama. Seems this change that was promised during the campaign is starting become more of the same oligarchic corporatism that we Americans have grown to be used to since the beginning of the Industrial Age if not much longer.
The Senate has to pass the bill. The State of the Union address for Jan. 25th has already been written. And the address already includes healthcare reform within the long list of Obama's accomplishments.
In the same way it's not unpatriotic to be against the Patriot Act, it not uncaring to be against this hideous Health Care bill. Obama doesn't care what's in the bill, he just want to sign something no matter what. Where is Obama's freak'n Transparency! And the no Lobbying or Pork Barrel he promised us? This bill is being pieced together in secret committees, and then rushed to a vote on Christmas Eve.
As a born-again Christian, I'm obligated to inform you of the 'Good News" that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Our Lord). It's my job. If atheists fail to believe in the Truth that I say to them about Jesus, then they shouldn't be surprised when they find themselves in Hell after they die. God doesn't hate you, He's speaking to you right now, through me(HolySpirit). Believe and Love
You perhaps, have some "feelings." Desires. Sympathies, that you want/need it to be true...
...right alongside every OTHER religious zealot - the peoples of Allah, Krishna, etc. cough up similar redemption tales and ill-founded conviction. They also speak just as condescendingly as you do others about 'the Truth™ with just as little basis.
Dean is right and Cenk it still a tool. This bill is just a huge powergrab by the government and corporations. Kill the bill once and for all and give us a consolidated Single payer system or at least a catastrophic health care safety net. Leave abortion in the private sector cause I don't wanna pay folks to kill their kids. Oh, and Cenk was so for this bill before he was against it. This dude is not a flip-flopper hes a Gigaflop. 180 degree turn by this guy.
In part, this is because modern Americans through a combination of indifference and ENTIRELY misplaced sensitivity tend to treat these delusional people with kid gloves.
Perceived slights against religion are regarded with horror, yet a pass is given to people who LIE TO CHILDREN, with stories of persons and places we have no good reason to believe even exist. But worse than this, they use this to teach hatred, of both themselves and others.
frescobaldi1987: I know that democrats want to redistribute the wealth, but I didn't realize that they also wanted to redistribute the crack cocaine too.
Washington DC is not America. America is 3.5 million square miles of free citizens. Washington DC is just 68 square miles of self-obsessed insanity surrounded 3.5 million square miles of relative sanity.
If you don't like the Senate, in 290 days from now, make a few changes in it. As for Obama, he's another Jimmy Carter. In 3 more years he'll be back to writing more autobiographies.
The clearest case of the republicans being a corporatist party is the mandate. Which forces people to buy private insurance. Conservatism is all about choice and freedom with as little govermental effect. Every single republican pushes for this because of their corporate overlords. The conservatives should be in a uproar over this, but they don't. They closed their eyes during the Reagan years when he made the party corporatist.
It's not reform at all - its DEform. What's being proposed is NOTHING like what was sold to us during the election. Seriously - if Obama's campaign platform included a mandate that people pay 17%+ of their annual income to private insurance companies (or face fines and/or jail), he wouldn't have stood a chance in hell of being elected.
Its conservative presidents we never had. You have to go back to Reagan for a conservative president, and before him back to Cooledge in the 1920s! The Bush's were crappy Neocons, not conservatives.
We still wound up with the PATRIOT Act. And this happened because nobody read the bill that was switched out the night before the vote. And of course, no one dare appear unpatriotic by ensuring that any such legislation was first and foremost, in keeping with the US Constitution. Even more ridiculous is that it was rubber stamped AGAIN after its five-year expiration. This was entirely orchestrated by our elected representatives- the "informed and wise" of us.
Noone comes to US for surgeries, if they did they would become financially bankrupt. Canada and western Europe blows the US out of the park on any list regarding healthcare, poverty, happiness etc. You obviously only watches the Faux news channel which preaches the American exceptionalism all day.
You also seemed concerned about the dept, the best way to correct that is to end all wars and increase taxes. Such things all conservatives love right, don't claim liberals are irresponsible.
Why not? The dems got us into Korea (we are still there), Japan (still there), Germany (still there), Vietnam (not there anymore), Kosovo (still there). Yes, the liberals are irresponsable.
You do realize that Canada and Europe pays like 1/4 of the price the US pays for the same healthcare. They are all goverment run. I shoudnt say its the same healthcare, it's alot better also.
Washington DC is not America. America is 3.5 million square miles of free citizens. Washington is just 68 square miles of self-obsessed insanity surrounded 3.5 million square miles of relative sanity.
If you don't like the senate, in 290 days, make a few changes in it.
you know, maybe this is for the best. The health care system in this country is so broken that no half-assed public option is going to fix it. We need to figure out how to stop making multi-millionaires out of EVERY surgeon (bottom 25% of US surgeon salary: about $250,000), then we can start thinking about reducing costs.
Once the health care bubble finally bursts, then maybe people will be serious about fixing this.
The problem is, that the bloated healthcare industry is 1/6 of the US economy, whereas in other nations in the Western World, the healthcare industry is half as big.
Without proper reform, the healthcare industry will get bigger and bigger and bigger until it turns nova, wiping out the economy..
Calimar28, maybe you should realize that the public option is deficit neutral. People still need to pay for it, it only takes away the profit motive of screwing people over to increase their bonues. Public option is not charity idiot.
My God, deficit neutral? Do you REALLY BELIEVE THAT? Name any goverment program that was deficit neutral? They spend 3 times more than they say they will for any program, Medicare is TRILLIONS in debt and so is Medicade in unfunded liabilities. So much bueracracy will cost billions more than projected...it always does. Govemrnet has been poor stewarts of our money, why should we trust them this time?
If it is run as efficiently as the Australian or British or European or Japanese or South Korean government run health care programs, then it will be deficit neutral.
But honestly, it looks like the healthcare industry was allowed to write this bill, and things are going to get worse.
Latest polls are trending strongly that the republicans pick up 6 seats in the Senate next November...that gives them a majority. The house is harder to predict, but I'll say the GOP picks up 44 seats..it could be the biggest blow out of all time...bigger than 1994.
Why? Forcing healthcare on us, when we are running a 12 trillion deficit. Obama giving banks bailouts. And trying to raise our taxes through cap and trade for climate change, which is junk science.
Liberals = 22% of the voting public. Fact. And they want to force their stuff on the rest of us. They dont like republicans, or blue dog democrats, and they dont like Lieberman...what a small tent party. Why they will just keep getting smaller and smaller. Have at it Haus!
But conservatives are already (including conservative independants) 48% of hte voting public. We can afford it.
But hey, liberals claim that healthcare is a right because it is life and death. Ok, then next they need to pass a bill that pays everyones rent...shelter is also life and death. And then, a national food bill, since that too is life and death. And people have to get to work, that is life and death, so how about a goverment run car lot, that gives everyone a car?
Umm no. Look at the latest polls (not Keith Obermans polls)...they are showing 34% for, and 56% against (rest undecided).
How can we have 2 million new people a year coming in (that has to get reduced first), and have national healthcare? How can we do it when we are spending a trillion a year on 700 bases in 130 nations? All that has to get fixed, and we have to pay back the debt before we can even discuss such a thing. You liberals are irresponsable, worse than Bush. And he was bad enough
Here's an idea for rich Republicans. If they want tax breaks why don't they pay for someones health insurance who has cancer, so they could be called a philanthropist.
Oh wait... they pay lawyers and lobbyists so they don't have to pay taxes, that would pay for a public option and would actually help people with cancer.
Heres an idea for democrats. Wealth is finite, why is it they are more concerned with redistributing existing wealth and destroying it in the process when they should be concerned about creating more. How? Lower taxes, less handouts, and a smaller government that doesn't pay their people 2Xs what the private sector does.
Heres another idea, buy catastrophic ins, and start an HSA. Catastrophic is cheap and cannot cancel you if you get cancer
Actually rich Republicans are concerned about redistribution of wealth. Take money from the middle class and poor who actually MAKE products. Many rich republicans just push paper and move money around into their pockets.
Democrats just want to keep the money they earn and not give it to insurance companies that provide no security. Security is another word for insurance.
I'd rather give my money to a responsible government that actually provides security, like the military, firemen and cops.
They actually "MAKE" products because they are employed to do just that. You attack the top, and those people who actually "Make" products will actually lose their job to someone who is willing to make them for cheaper. Liberal myopia is sickining.
A "responsible gooberment" LOL, is that what we are witnissing right now. Responsible for causing a double dip recession, responsible for bleading the economy dry for years to come. That is not fiscally responsible
actually government doesnt pay alot compared to the job responsibility...the highest paid person is the pres and he makes only 400k...i can think of many ppl in the private sector that make way more than that...a lot of pro athletes, business leaders, etc and they dont have half the pressure and stress that the being president enthralls
The government pays more then 2Xs the equally qualified, private sector counterpart. THat takes into account retirement though. Its a fact and I challenge you to check it
Umm did you say that the private sector pays half of what the government pays for equal jobs? ... If that is so, then why do CEO's make 1000's of percent more than the top government official like indian8217 said?
Is it because of greed?... is that why you want less government?
It is because I value liberty, don't like excessive taxation, I value the words of our founders, and want what is best for America.
The statistic is accurate when you average compensation with equal skills and experience.
You do realize that only the private sector creates wealth, dont you? Government actually diminishes it, and that is basic economics. Yes, gov prints money, but it is the private sector that creates its value.
private sector does not "create wealth". consumers create wealth for the private sector.
The govt. should create laws/policies giving more financial power to the wide spector of people not in the top 5 percent (ie, through collective bargaining) and they will in turn spend more on goods and services, thereby "creating wealth" for the private sector.
In other words "Mr/Ms. True Patriot", limit corporate power in favor of people power - just as the Founders intended!
That would be limiting government power. Lemme Guess, not too keen on your econ either. Those people on the top that you are bashing are the exact same ones that Obama is throwing billions of our tax dollars at.
the repukes and teabaggers hated Obama even before stepped foot into office. they hate him cause he is black democrat. why does he think he can win them over? why cater to these people? they are against you? they did what they wanted for 8 years!! do you really want to lose the liberals support over repukes??? I don't get this! Obama needs to grow a pair and tell the repukes to suck his acorns and pass healthcare with a public option or just do single payer or universal healthcare!! get tough!
No, conservatives and independents, and most of middle America hate his policies because they are socialist or make no sense whatsoever (of which Dr. Howard is complaining). Has nothing to do with the color of his skin. Plain and simple, most of America repudiates socialism and for good reason, it has no record of success in all of human history.
I've a cadilac insurance but I hoped the public option will pass - it would've helped the under priviledged & also reduced the monstrous premium charged by insurance cos. Unfortunately the christian conservatives killed this bill because helping the underpriviledged is no longer Christianity in America - history repeates itself with the church helping the conservative fascists of Fox Tv to enslave the under previledge just like it had done in the past with African slavery, holocaust, etc.
The gooberment "helping underpriviledged" by making them even more dependent has never been a Christian ideal. It is a liberal Ideal. Christ tought self dependance, not gooberment reliance.
Funny you mention slavery, because the Reps were the north in the civil war. The dems even opposed civil rights. Geeze read up on your history. Prior to the LBJ handouts and welfare implimentation the reps were called the Black Party!
You're telling me there's nothing about helping the poor in the BIBLE??? I doubt you've ever read a word of it. I'm all for capitalism, but this is isn't it. This is the perversion of capitalism.
Helping the poor is not goverments job, they end up spending half the money on other things. It is the job of THE PEOPLE to give to charity which we do, and big. The Bible says nothing about FORCING people to give through goverment...it has to be a choice.
There is absolutely nothing about "government" helping the poor. THere is also nothing about stealing from people to do just that. THere is something about voluntarily donating, and reps lead the pack on that department. Liberal idealogy is perversion of capitalism. Greed is amiable, the most greedy will seek to earn more money. How is that done? In the long term it is done through serving people with products they need. The greediest add the most wealth to society
I wish I could say that is the most ignorant thing I've read on youtube, unfortunately you're just above the middle-schooler who spells words with numbers.
I never attacked your diction, but I guess I can attack your reading comprehension skills. I understand you're probably not too savvy from reading Conservapedia. But come back to me when you open up a textbook or something.
Lol, I personally don't care what it says in the bible, aside from it being a nice fantasy story to read along side lord of the rings, I just thought the fact that you said "helping underpriviledged" is not a christian ideal shows your absolute hypocrisy. You guys pretty much twist whatever facts or messages you want to suit your agenda, even if they represent the complete opposite. This isn't about rich and poor, this is about just and unjust. True capitalism doesn't use extortionist tactics.
You are the one who brought it up in the first place. And I would like you to describe "extortionist tactics" Unless you mean BHO getting in sweet with the wall street execs, I have no idea what you are referring to:)
Actually mail2arnie brought it up in the first place if you can remember what happened 1 hour ago.
The basis of capitalism is the free market in case you've forgotten, not the mandatory market. The bill that you're fighting for forces pretty much everyone to buy insurance with absolutely no options or choice in the matter. The insurance companies can charge whatever they like no matter how ridiculous and there is no real competition to keep them in check. You pay us or you die= extortion
The conservatives are a messed up lot blinded by material greed supporting a party which wants religion to rule politics (so islamic). They have actually dumped their Jesus to support these middlemen of insurance companies. These republicans are nothing but agents of the insurance companies. Obama's biggest mistake is to let Mohammad Liebrman Atta hijack this bill and cause the 911 of health care reform. The insurance co CEOs are as happy with Joe Lib as Bin Laden was with the Attas post 911.
Obama to de-classify nexus between church & the KKK which made the conservative CEOs walk away with billions of dollar bonus pay while screwing up the education system so bad that TrueUSAPatriot's kid need someone from the 7-11 to help understand basic math. Unconfirmed report says Palin's daughter getting pregnant again - this time she was mesmerized by a violinist Hing Lin Chin - not a single conservative piano teacher found in Alaska. Alarming!
"OHhhh the dems are so bad everyone let's switch sides next elections and vote for republicans!"
"Ohhh the repubs are so bad everyone let's switch to democrats!"
DOES ANYONE THINK ABOUT THEIR VOTE ANYMORE. We keep voting the same bullshit into office left, right and fucking center!
And what blows my mind is our populace never learns. At least in France, Germany, Greece etc they have the balls to stand up to their government and demand what they want.

Dean would WASTE his time battling the repugs; get nothing done in the process; & have demo-cats booted out of Congress in record numbers!

It reduces the national debt, provides care to those who did not have it befor and ends per-existing conditions, life time caps, and it is paid for.

As dissapointed as we may be with Obama. You have to admit it's not all his fault. You're forgetting the other liberal wuss, Harry Reid! Hell If I was Senate Majority Leader I would say to Joe Lieberman, vote I on cloture for a health care bill that includes a public option or I'm stripping you of your Homeland security committee chairmanship."
bart11114 2 years ago 5
And Harry Reid has lost his spine to stand up and use reconciliation to get the parts of the bill ratified that REALLY need to be in it (e.g. public option, Medicare buy-in). He would only need 51 votes instead of 60, and the Republicans did it ALL THE TIME when they had control, but now all of a sudden it would make Democrats look like they are being too partisan if they suggest using this method? Give me a break. As much as it pains me to say this, the Democratic leadership is becoming a joke.

This was entirely orchestrated by our elected representatives- the "informed and wise" of us.

you know, maybe this is for the best. The health care system in this country is so broken that no half-assed public option is going to fix it. We need to figure out how to stop making multi-millionaires out of EVERY surgeon (bottom 25% of US surgeon salary: about $250,000), then we can start thinking about reducing costs.
Once the health care bubble finally bursts, then maybe people will be serious about fixing this.
rsrs17 2 years ago
The problem is, that the bloated healthcare industry is 1/6 of the US economy, whereas in other nations in the Western World, the healthcare industry is half as big.

Calimar28, maybe you should realize that the public option is deficit neutral. People still need to pay for it, it only takes away the profit motive of screwing people over to increase their bonues. Public option is not charity idiot.
DamienThorn999 2 years ago
My God, deficit neutral? Do you REALLY BELIEVE THAT? Name any goverment program that was deficit neutral? They spend 3 times more than they say they will for any program, Medicare is TRILLIONS in debt and so is Medicade in unfunded liabilities. So much bueracracy will cost billions more than projected...it always does. Govemrnet has been poor stewarts of our money, why should we trust them this time?

Here's an idea for rich Republicans. If they want tax breaks why don't they pay for someones health insurance who has cancer, so they could be called a philanthropist.
Oh wait... they pay lawyers and lobbyists so they don't have to pay taxes, that would pay for a public option and would actually help people with cancer.
:P
Joxman2k 2 years ago
@Joxman2k
TrueUSAPatriots 2 years ago
Actually rich Republicans are concerned about redistribution of wealth. Take money from the middle class and poor who actually MAKE products. Many rich republicans just push paper and move money around into their pockets.
Democrats just want to keep the money they earn and not give it to insurance companies that provide no security. Security is another word for insurance.
I'd rather give my money to a responsible government that actually provides security, like the military, firemen and cops.
Joxman2k 2 years ago
@Joxman2k
TrueUSAPatriots 2 years ago
actually government doesnt pay alot compared to the job responsibility...the highest paid person is the pres and he makes only 400k...i can think of many ppl in the private sector that make way more than that...a lot of pro athletes, business leaders, etc and they dont have half the pressure and stress that the being president enthralls

Is it because of greed?... is that why you want less government?
Joxman2k 2 years ago 2
@Joxman2k
TrueUSAPatriots 2 years ago
private sector does not "create wealth". consumers create wealth for the private sector.
The govt. should create laws/policies giving more financial power to the wide spector of people not in the top 5 percent (ie, through collective bargaining) and they will in turn spend more on goods and services, thereby "creating wealth" for the private sector.
In other words "Mr/Ms. True Patriot", limit corporate power in favor of people power - just as the Founders intended!

No, conservatives and independents, and most of middle America hate his policies because they are socialist or make no sense whatsoever (of which Dr. Howard is complaining). I've a cadilac insurance but I hoped the public option will pass - it would've helped the under priviledged & also reduced the monstrous premium charged by insurance cos. Unfortunately the christian conservatives killed this bill because helping the underpriviledged is no longer Christianity in America - history repeates itself with the church helping the conservative fascists of Fox Tv to enslave the under previledge just like it had done in the past with African slavery, holocaust, etc.
mail2arnie 2 years ago
The gooberment "helping underpriviledged" by making them even more dependent has never been a Christian ideal. It is a liberal Ideal. Christ tought self dependance, not gooberment reliance.

Helping the poor is not goverments job, they end up spending half the money on other things. It is the job of THE PEOPLE to give to charity which we do, and big. The Bible says nothing about FORCING people to give through goverment...it has to be a choice.
calimar28 2 years ago
@kaguth

Alert from Afghanistan!
Somewhere from a cave, Hamid Awkbar, minister of immigration as issued the following warning!
If we do not exit Iraq immediately, they will not send any more 7-11 or quick stop managers.
If this doesn't yield sufficient results, they will cease the sending of Dell, and AOL representatives.
Still if this doesn't they have threatened not to send us anymore candidates for president!
Its going to get ugly people

Alert from Neo Nazi cave in the Midwest:

American voters=sheep.
