Guitarist is grandstanding with an inappropriate lead in and tone whenever he can grab the floor. He needs to be fired. Most other tones are ALL wrong for her voice and she is singing in the wrong key for her voic I thought Dan Auerbach produced her? Dan, HELLO!
saw jess open up for justin townes earle and dan auerbach, best night of my life, she made eye contact with me throughout the entire show, my god how easily i fell in love.
sweet song, sweet voice, dig the change to a faster tempo,... this song is really bluesly and rock n' rolly... feelin kinda sh^&ty today..made me feel good
Jessica is so beautiful and talented but I think it is such a shame that David Mayfield isn't getting the recognition he deserves. He is one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen/heard in my life. His personality puts him over the top. He is a once in a lifetime performer and man and deserves to be in the spotlight more often instead of being stuck in the background. It's about time for him to get the recognition, credit, and love he deserves.
hmmm, Kurt's kid sister and Alan Ginsberg's missing progeny (go David, nice beard & great moves) and all that country too! Nice work kids. Long live the spirit of Kent! Stay true! OK, July 4 2011 is almost over -- you can ditch the RW&B guitar strap in favor of brandishing a PBR strap or hell, just ditch the colors and make you own ;)
Whoa...what's up with the guitar? I love this song and her, but, unless my audio is off, the guitar is far too loud and overshadows her vocals. he can obviously play, but dang dude turn it down a notch to, like, 11 or something.
I get the sense that Letterman actually likes good music. I've seen him not give artist more than a thank you and goodnight but watch him love all over TBK's I Got Mine and then this performance he seems to genuinely like as well.
@KyleMantegna You're absolutely right man, it's a Supro. I forgot about those. It's a 60's Supro of some kind. It kind of looks like a 1966 Supro S635 with a different tail piece. Jimmy Page used old Supro amps on Zep's early records. Thanks for jogging my memory man!
@lastnote Thanks!! Do you have any more information about Supros? I'm not finding too much. Do you know if they're a sub-company of another brand? I saw him play it last night, he's great.
@KyleMantegna Google "supro guitars" and click the fourth link at vintageguitars.
It looks like one of the Lexington series. I don't know much about their guitars, but the amps have had a lot of buzz over the years because of the Jimmy Page thing.
@motalio1 Make sure you have both left and right speakers on, for some reason they put the guitar only on the left channel and the vocals mostly on the right channel.
@quadpus You're right. Maybe I should not make comments about sound quality when I'm watching the video on my phone. Still that is wierd that they put it all to the left.
@motalio1 I saw them recently in a small club setting and they were amazing...even better than the album version. The electric guitarist is an amazing, textural player. There's something off about the mix here on live tv.
@motalio1 I disagree. The album version has a different feel, but I like this one also. This live performance is quite refined. They're tight. I appreciate the extra color that the feedback of the guitar adds to the mix.
@motalio1 I know what you mean, he looks pretty unsettled by it as well perhaps it wasn't his guitar. I've been to a few concerts and sometimes they already have instruments set up for the next band so the best that they can do is try and tune it to their own style.
@motalio1 I saw her live in Kent and i have too say that the lead guitarist was the best part of her act he was bobbing around like a chicken without a head
@Jairm2003 Umm you should look her up, she has been singing lead in a blugrass band since she was 8. She's supposed to sound in pain, thats her thing, its a dark album.
for a song with such deep and personal lyrics, her performance seems to lack much emotion or stage presence the song conveys. but the song is beautiful and so is she
It was a wonderful surprise to see her on TV getting this level of recognition and exposure. I've seen her three times in Pittsburgh and she has definitely won me over. She looks fantastic here, as always!

He is obviously skillfully adding the texture and mood with the feedback of the guitar and requires the gain.
I think it sounds perfect! He is so unique. He is playing on the strings behind the guitar bridge to achieve this shimmering glass effect.. so cool.
