Awesome video and driving. I love all the low end to mid range torque the car has. I went up the Gydo Pass yesterday myself to see what it is really about. Wish the event was still on and organised better
But then, on Playstation you can go flatout and have some accidents. Few however would dare to run with such a powerful car (this engine in my Cobra still holds the quarter mile record in a street car at 10.6s at Jhb Altitude of 6,500ft). I assure you, this car needs to be manhandled!
Also, some may not have done these events and will not realise that the secret is smooth = fast, and the principle of slow in and fast out of a corner assist hugely with elapsed times. We also did not get the benefit of running the hillclimb other than slow scout laps, and being my first run with this car, one will be stupid to go balls to the wall. There are 100's of meters of drop offs with no barriers - so imagine that as a reality check.
1 car rolled over a young girl, and the other went straight into a wall where a woman was sitting with her baby on her lap. This woman lost her leg. Both these accidents took place at 02:09 point on my video and you can see at 02:10 where plenty cement is on the outside of the road due to a vehicle having rolled over the girl who sat with others right on the pavement.
Thank you thatguyonstage. Some may be misled by the lower rpm, but the car has massive torque (680nm) and I pulled between 1 and 1.4g's in the corners. You will see some corrections in corners, so I did not take it entirely slow. However, I can go faster but the event was cancelled (permanently and forever) after 2 cars had accidents and hurt spectators and I did not get another run at it.
Thank you songcyclist! Yes, it will only be people who did not try anything close to this who will say something of that nature. Or alternatively you would get someone who is totally stupid and will push the car flat out on such a dangerous hillclimb without everything being perfect, and would kill himself and some spectators. That is perhaps what this fella wanted to see.
Looked like an honest run to me...considering all of the onlookers which could have been injured if he'd flown off the road, not to mention very few guardrails.
Correct. It was a test run and I would have pushed it in the next run. We worked on the car until that morning with a few issues remaining & you dont go racing flat out up a dangerous hill like this without testing it first. Remember there were 2 huge accidents on the day and the event was finally cancelled, and even permanently since. Be it as it may, this run still was of the fastest of this event. The video is misleading as I pulled over 1.4g's in cornering

Nice run, great sound. Everyone saying 'too slow' probably would have thrown this car off the road. They should stick to their copy of Forza.

Do you have any video of the record run? Or just of the car hitting the strip in general? I'd enjoy seeing it in action.

Record run of the Cobra or Ultima?
Check out my MR2ZZ channel for several videos of the Ultima, Cobra, MR2, Lotus Exige, and M3 CSL.

This accident happened shortly before my run and was with one of our best drivers in this country (Des Gutzeit) behind the wheel which shook us all.

Thanks for posting this. Please ignore the idiot "too slow" and "not pushing" comments. Your run and explanation made perfect sense to me.
Love the sound of that healthy engine. And what a great road. I went to boarding school in the Cape many years ago. The scenery brings back memories.
