You are to preach the Gospel. You first show them the law and how they were dead in their sins, then you show God's grace and mercy. Don't try to scare them, just let the Holy Spirit move your lips.
I have a question. Let say if I were to preach on the street about repentence. Do I preach God love you or do I preach God hate you. Let me remind you that I'm preaching to sinner. My opinion is, if I'm going to preach the truth as it is. To sinner, than I should preach, God hate you. Repent for go to hell and believed in Jesus. To this church I know, that is very religion. But in the bible, it teaches god wraith is being pour unto the wicked mans. Woe to you who is easy going, ect.
I find that many would rather talk about theology/doctrine then confess their sin or examine their hearts to see if their love for Christ is growing. As evidenced by the willingness of most young reformed types to grab a book (written by: piper, keller, driscoll, etc.) and read - then it is to fill a prayer meeting, or the van headed to witness at the mall.
You make a great point, and I think it is good to be aware of our intellectualism. I am constantly reminding myself that my interest in doctrine and theology will not save me, a relationship with Jesus based on repentance and faith will. I hope no one takes offense to your suggestion, but would rather be convicted!
I'd consider myself in the "New Reformed" movement, and would tend to agree with what he's saying. Especially, love for theology replacing love for God. I'm a youth pastor and had a group of students in my office to fellowship over the Word at lunchtime. Asking questions that deal personal love/affection for God were sparingly discussed when asked, however as soon as a theological concept was brought up the conversation took off.
I understand the allure of intellectualism but also view a part of my church experience to be anti-intellectualism. The video poses a delemma between the two extremes.

Dr. Piper--
If I say I am a member of PETA, but eat burgers for lunch everyday, am I really believing what they say?
Couldn't the same be said for Warren? Lip-service does not equal right beliefs--does he preach like he believes the Bible is inerrant?

The Bible can't be fixed, it is fixed, stagnant. You can only hope to fix your brain, free your mind, face reality.

It almost sounds like John Piper is talking about Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, and Joyce mayer. haha
