  • awesome betty & rick! you both are awesome!!!!!!

  • has anyone seen the watermelons they have in japan? : O they have ones shaped like faces, squares and even hearts! its really cool, anyway this is really cute betty, I eat water melon all the time, people seem to think because of the sweet flavor its more of a dessert type thing, but it can really be eaten any time! because its mostly water it flushes out your system and, its extremely healthy and the seeds help lower blood pressure and there is even a diet called 'the watermelon diet' XD

  • Beautiful. I looked into doing a watermelon basket and the prices anymore for the watermelon and all the fruits is cost prohibitive for me. I d love to do one though. I came up with a clever idea though to have beautiful eye candy presentation of fruit. But I just adore this idea and project.

  • @cozzyk if you have a asian market usually the fruit prices are MUCH cheaper then a grocery store, or if you buy one at fresh and easy.

  • @Krimson Thanks the watermelons here at the time were $10 and then we would have to purchase tons of fruit etc. and we just can't afford $30. Instead I used a tierd glass dish which I draped grapes off and added strawberries etc. It came out beautiful. I don't know of any asian markets nearby but will check that out thank you.

  • @cozzyk oh no problem at all! anything i can do to help, vietnamese markets are usually cheapest, my boyfriend's family are vietnamese/chinese and at the market they only spend around 69 cents to a dollar 95 per melon (depending on the season) we buy about two to three every week

thats such a crime that the stores charge so much! this is such a wonderful healing fruit, but i'm glad you found alternatives grapes and strawberries are just as good haha : D

  • @Krimson I ll check I haven't seen any near us but I live close to large cities which I know would have them. I ll do some searches thanks again.

  • This would be adorable for easter dinner.. :)

  • I would have to add grapes purple and green... I love grapes... and as others have said it is a nice recipe good job to rick for teaching us to carve and it is pretty

  • I love this. Its cute, and healthy. I'm definitely gonna try this.

  • That is beautiful! It would be so impressive with company. Thank you so much Rick and Betty :)

  • that is sooo cutee.

  • Nice work you guys!

  • It looks real pretty! We Chinese have a similar melon...it is called a wintermelon in cantonese we call it (dong gua). You can find it at asian markets. We cut the melon in half scoop it out add some pork, mushroom, some broth steam the entire thing and the soup gets served in the melon. The full name of this dish is called (dong gua jong) Not many restaurants do it anymore cause its a big hassle. This watermelon basket makes me think of that chinese dish :)

  • Reinforce the handle with cello tape. Would work just fine. Love fruit salad!
