  • Was Sam Allardyce managing BOTH teams?

  • Daley and Stuart pushing Queensland back, and then Clyde with the tackle. Go the Raiders.

  • Aussie rules never seemed so gay, until i heard the background song. I remember watching this on TV when i was a kid. Wtf were they both thinking? QLD and NSW i mean

  • ..you could say that it'was inconceivable of Dale to think that he would win this kicking duel.

  • They were days for sure. We were spoilt.

  • Shearer just scratches his nuts and kicks it back

  • that was nucking futs!

  • @the0chap shut up you cucking funt

  • Never seen anythin like this in rugby league! Can someone explain to me please?

  • @ghostmutt477 Because of the old 5 metre rule, the kicker used to stand WAY back and torpedo punt the ball towards the opposing fullback. Because the kicker's team would all be offside (except the kicker himself, obviously), the receiving fullback had the (rarely used) option of catching the ball and being guaranteed 5 metres of space between himself and the (offside) chasers. He could either play on, or, in this case, punt one back and try to gain some territory....or just show off.

  • Warren Ryan wants to see the duel comeback into the NRL

  • Maybe in 2010 we will see the return of the kicking duel at last? :-P

I wonder what odds SportsBet would offer?

  • never fight a land war in china ...

and never take ricky stuart on in a kicking duel.

  • @docgonzales Dale Shearer fell victim to one of the classic blunders :-P

  • amazing

  • Go Rowdy!!!!

  • couldnt ricky stuart kick a football damn

  • hahahahahaha

  • Absolute brilliant! Can imagine if that happened in todays game, the coach would be pulling his hair out!

  • who won that game?

  • QUEENSLAND 5 (Moore try, Langer field goal) def NEW SOUTH WALES 4 (Wishart 2 goals)

QLD: Shearer, Hancock, Meninga, M.Coyne, Brunker, P.Jackson, Langer, Bella, S.Walters, Allen, Lindner, Larson, Moore (INT: Kevin Walters, Gillmeister, D.Smith, McLean)

NSW: Ettingshausen, G.Mackay, Fittler, McGregor, Wishart, Daley, Stuart, Lazarus, Elias, Harragon, Sironen, Cartwright, Clyde (INT: Salvatori, B.Mackay, Gillespie, Carter)

  • Were the rules different then? Why would you kick the ball back on the 1st?

  • My thoughts exactly, plus why weren't the defenders putting any pressure on the kickers?

  • the chasers have to be in line with the kicker. If there infront of the kicker the chasers have to stay 10 mts back from reciever unless kicker runs through to put them onside.toward the end thats what made dale shearer run the ball.

  • Because they were off side

  • they were in front of the kickers and are offside until a player from behind the kicker or the kicker himself puth them on side

  • yeah..the old game of forcing back..i miss the rake backs..back door benny &ian roberts were kings of it(its outlawed now) or even the run around move...miss the golden days of league..and the bears.

  • Hell yeah !!! you wont see that happen for a long time folks. Great stuff !!!

  • that was awesome i thought they were my imagination aswell.

  • And I thought that "kicking duels" were only a figment of my imagination! I KNEW that I had seen one or two of them when I was just a kid.

Maybe we'll see one or two again soon, with the 40/20 rule, and with most kickers punting the ball now for greater accuracy, compared to the torpedo kick.
