God is a complete coward, bully, prick, sick son of a bitch, killer, betrayer, etc. Oh oh I'm guess I'm going to hell, bet if I killed someone and say "Sorry" to the cocksucker upstairs then I would be saved....
You are not being consistent in your wording. Is Christianity not a relationship or not a friendship? You DO have a relationship with your mother...a parent child relationship. Much like our relationship with God, our Father. As you said, if you did something wrong you were corrected by your mother. Thats not abuse, simply parenting. Same thing with God. Hope I don't sound like I'm being rude, I just want you to think about what your saying.
Good video. A very fair question. Christianity is not a religion of law. There is no "ultimate control". Christians have free will. That makes our love for Jesus genuine and not forced. We also have the free will to sin. When you are in this relationship, and God is in your heart, you choose to abide by his law. You believe that Jesus was perfect, and was unjustly crucified to pay for your sins. Thats the Good News. Believe in that, and the sins you do (everyday) wont affect how God sees you.
everyone has a right to choose the way they want to live their life but you have no right to slam Christians. Everyone picks on Christians cause they're to scared to say it to the Muslims. Say it to the muslims and you'll get your butt kicked. If you want to live life without Jesus that's your choice but don't make fun of others that do.
I agree with him in that far too many people do that. But I respect you for not doing it and especially for not generalising Christianity. Lol, I think I prefer British Atheists whether you are or not. I think it's because Christianity is a lot different in Britain to the US. There's a lot of fear and arrogance in American Christianity but in Britain it's all about charity and being a good person I find. Except of course a few.
Christianity is indeed like a relationship.... a relationship between a cruel master and a helpless slave. I was once a religious person, and I was the slave. It was a nightmare.
If you're smart, you'll get out of that relationship as soon as possible! Or if you're like me, just never have a relationship with God to begin with. My life has been pretty awesome without God in it! :)
@MeGustanUvas Damn if only if I were as lucky as you. I was "lucky" enough to live in one of those families and be taught that all that stuff is real and that if I don't believe it I'd spend eternity in hell. Pretty sick to tell a child something like that. . .
@thegreatmendez000 Yeah. That is a really messed up thing to tell a child. I'm sorry you were brought up being told that if you're bad you'll burn in hell forever. I was raised in a secular home. My parents never mentioned God. They let me draw my own conclusions without shoving any particular religion in my face. That's how everyone should be brought up. If you want to believe in God and practice a certain religion, that's fine. But you should find it on your own.
Well put, Latum. Well put. I wish a certain member of my family would wake up about such things. Her religion (and job) are the only thngs that make her truly happy, so I really can't say anything about it. Religion is quite messed up in general as far as I'm concerned.
Saying that Christianity is a relationship and not a religion is BS. It's still a religion because it requires you to accept Jesus as your personal savior. The only way Christians know about Jesus is through the Bible since there is no proof of him doing all of these supernatural things, let alone there is no proof of him even existing. Plus, I'm sure people of other religions have some kind of "relationship" with their gods.
No hate mail but I'll leave some love since I haven't in some time.
I don't always comment, just isn't enough time in the day with so many subscriptions these days BUT I always watch and I am continually impressed and reassured by you. (drunken videos aside...lol)
Speaking only for myself, nothing is truly a relationship unless at some point the other party buys me something sparkly. In all the years of my "relationship" with Jesus, he never did that. So there ya go.
I also love the fact that it's a relationship with someone they assume they know. A million different texts about a million different Gods and prophets, and they all assume they know that God and prophet. Very disrespectful in my opinion.
If Christianity is a relationship, it's an abusive relationship. The religious feel the god is omnipresent and that they're a worthless wretch, who deserves nothing short of eternal punishment. They feel that if they have no choice but to give absolute authority to their god. Any time where the god doesn't "punish", they confuse it with love and kindness. Sounds a lot like Stockholm Syndrome and Battered Spouse Syndrome, doesn't it?
Interesting points - I think something similar, though I've never had the chance to question a "relationship" person. Some people who enjoy this relationship seem to think themselves above those Christians who play with the bible. I always wonder how exactly these people found out about Jesus etc... Where's that info coming from, hmmm?
I dont know... the kind of relationship you describe sounds a lot like many of the ones down here in the Bible Belt. One goes on a power trip and abuses the other. Then comes back and says he/she can make up for it and promises rewards. Then pow, right in the kisser.
I don´t think christians see it as a relationship. It´s just a play on words they use since being religious doesn't have the status it once had. They don´t mean it, it´s just another way for them to try to have their cake and eat it. They want to be religious and have special privileges and escape the usual criticisms they get by re- naming something.
Now I am rambling and being incoherent. It must be infectious.
I'll rate it up, but please don't be like those other "youtube Atheists" you have more quality's be more like TJ, make funny cool vids, not always about religion.
@LatumWay I believe colloredbrothers meant that you should be like TheAmazingAtheist and make videos that do not focus on religion alongside those that are. Either way, I know I'm still gonna be watching :P.
Sorry for me being so unclear. Most atheist keep making anti-religion videos day in day out and although I get where they are comming from I fucking hate it. There comes a point where people go on with there lives and do something creative, something new, yet these people live to bash religion. And i simply hope your not that kind, I hope your more like TJ(TheAmazingAtheist). He is creative talks about a vast range of subjects and makes funny vids.
@LatumWay He's talking about TheAmazingAtheist. A lot of religious people bash him for being an asshole. He does make us atheists, look like jackasses in a way, though.

These changes are freaking me out! Good vid. I suppose if a christian said this to me, I'd ask them whether a friendship between imaginary friends is considered a relationship? Because usually when they give me this line, it's some kind of attempt to escape the burden of proof. Calling it a relationship assumes that God exists, and because it's personal it's thought to be outside my realm of criticism.
I don't know about this - when I say I'm "in a relationship" with someone, it's a polite euphemism for the fact that we're fucking each other - and when it comes to fucking millions of people at once, nobody does it like God - albeit by proxy :)
