Boy, the comments here are strange. If you can watch Graf play in this and other clips, and consider her overall record, and watch the interviews with her, and you still don't feeling showing her some respect, then there is nothing that youtube comments can do to help. For me, Steffi Graf is one of the few really great tennis personalities and champions of the last forty years.
And do you think a young athlete, dedicated every minute of her day to sport, should mistrust her own father and know by heart every aspect of her management ? and every point of the tax law ?
There have been some great games in women's tennis and the 80s was a brilliant decade. I have to turn the volume off with all the grunting these days and lose the atmosphere. In terms of matches and being a great spectacle I have always felt five sets make the game so much better. Three sets can be over in no time and do no favours to the game - but plenty to the players' bank accounts!! Let fitness and ability play a part in the outcome, not just brute strength and loud grunts!
never be another legend with steffi's genious and talent. its amazing that she could won 22 grandslams relying only on her backhand slice. just unbelievable@@$

There was another girl with even more talent, right in the middle of Steffi's own career. She had taken the spotlight away from her until a madman helped his beloved steffi regain her status...
that's quite a bit of an asterisk next to "genious and talent" that expressed themselves with the main rival gone...
How about Evert and Navratilova whose rivalry is unmatched in tennis...
and this 'another girl' more than benefitted form the bloody campaign carried on by the German scandal mongerers against Steffi's father, and the way they ruined Steffi's morale, to take over her 1st world place
Steffi would never have lost it otherwise, as she stood so far above every other player, including Monica Seles (do you feel shame about quoting her name ?).
And the 'main rival" was back in 1995. It didn't prevent Steffi from beating her 4 times out of 5 !
Steffi was no longer affected by the scandal in early 1993 ? What do you know of it ? Are you a member of her family ?
Anyway, she woudl never have lost the AO final agianst Seles, if she had not been so awfully stolen by this bloody bad call in the middle of the second set, while she had won the first one and taken the best start at the start of the second one !
It broke her pace, while she was on the track to win in straight sets !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
my word are moderate darling, I can call Parche an idiot can't I ? or should I pay respect to this retard because he gave to Graf what she couldn't obtain by herself?
Oh bad calls are part of tennis.
without a bad call, seles would have won the USO 95 in straight sets 7-6 6-0...
He gave to Graf what she couldn't obtain by herself ??
Let's rather say he deprived Steffi from an indisputable reconquest, as the German would certainly have taken her 1st world place back, once her physical and moral problems had been solved !
By the way, don't forget Steffi beat Seles 3 times out of 4 in 1991 and 1992 when Monica was number one. She even routed Seles 6:1 6:2 by the 92 Wimbledon final, in less than one hour of effective game !!!
the 2 wins captured by Seles in 1990 mostly owe to the first slandering campaign carried on by the German press against Steffi's father, that broke out right before them (the German and the FO).
Steffi was only the shadow of herself, by those 2 matches.
As for the 93 AO final, it was simply and properly STOLEN to Steffi, while she was on the way to capture it !!
On the other hand, Steffi regularly beat Monica 3 times out of 4 in 91 and 92 (including twice in staright sets !)

Lol, and i'm the one who you call extreme...
Graf was on a 66 match streak when seles beat her in Berlin. It's the second longest ever...
If Graf was really a shadow of herself, why hasn't someone else than seles beaten her at that point? and why has she failed to reproduce that kind of streak since?
If graf was feeling that bad in 1990, she shouldn't have been playing.
Yes, and Steffi would certainly have overtaken the 74 match streak of Navratilova, had this bloody campaign not broken out just before the 90 german Open final.
And unfortunately, other players than Seles beat her by that time : Garrison by the semi-final of Wimbledon (it was the first time she saw defeated before the final since the 86 US Open - that is to say FOUR YEARS !)
Sorry, but I wasn't paid by the Seles family to give Monica a disgusting alibi to take cheaply some rest from the Tour, hoping to have her 1st world place warmly kept till she feels like coming back to the Tour, and claiming herself a poor martyr, if not.
Curious enough she remained off the Tour more than 2 years, while her wound was far from being that deep...
and that Steffi happened to be under the threat of imprisonment, just when Seles announced her come back..
I am not sicker than you are yourself, when you assert that I would have handed the knife to Parche. I replied to your delirious question by a delirious answer, that's all.
And Steffi wasn't guilty at all. She relied entirely on her father to deal with her money. If you can't trust your own father, who are you going to trust ?
She took the time to set up her own management society, so as to clear every matter of litigation.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
She was over 18 at that point, so she could be held responsible from a legal standpoint.
when you are an athlete, you have to lead by example. Which she does in a great way now but the tax scandal was a shame that shocked the German population.
She didn't know anything of the deal offered by the tax office of her land to her father : to pay less taxes so as not to move to Monte Carlo (which Peter Graf accepted).
Unfortunately, when some muckrakers of the German magazine "Der Spiegel" discovered it, they were too happy to make a 'scandal' of it, so as to get a most profitful 'scoop'.
And instead of assuming its own responsibility, the German tax office claimed this deal had never been concluded...disgusting...
Gaby beat Steffi very seldom before the scandal : only 3 times, by average tournaments.
But right afterwards, she beat her 5 times in a row ! and also by the 90 US Open final !
And more significant : Steffi started to collapse morally against Gaby when the match got close, while she had always dominated Gaby in this very area before.
And there was no bad call by the 95 US Open. Seles just tried to influence the umpires, beginning to run towards her chair, while she perfectly new her serve was out !!
Thanks goodness, the umpires in New York were more professional than the umpires in Melbourne !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's the same umpires worldwide... goodness, you really have no clue...
As for the 93 australian final, Graf had her chances and wilted... if she could not handle one bad call, she shoudn't have been playing. I hope she will never read this pathetic bullshit. She acknoledged that seles was better than her that day, just the same way seles recognized Graf was better 6 months earlier at wimbledon...
...because Steffi Graf has always been a modest and fair play champion, always respectful towards her opponents. She was certainly not the kind of person to whine about the umpires, while she would have had so many grounds to, after this final !!
And the umpires are not the same eveywhere...John McEnroe knew it very well !!!

Those two had such chemistry! I remember watching this match when I was 5 yrs old in Rio, Brasil. I think they pushed each other to such competitiveness they were always fun to watch against each other. They certainly were great foils for each other, Steffi's forehand and Gaby's backhand, Steffi's perfection against Gaby's lazy but special talent.
Absolutely!! at this time Navratilova and Evert were still playing also at the ends of their career Monica was just around the corner. Evert Navratilova period was also golden. Current period is a boring mess!
The men´s tennis today is almost as boring. Compare that to the late 80s: Becker, Lendl, Edberg, Wilander. Mac and Connors on their way down but still playing well. They were all profiles with different styles and personalities.

Yes, and a reconquest would have proved Graf the greatest ever. It did not happen and leaves it open for debate, ipso facto.
The91/92 wins come handy for the Grafnuts who forget that they are circled by 2 wins to 0 from seles in 1990 and 1 to 0 in 93...
and we're not even discussing slam finals...
