You are incorrect. The original 8-track version of this song had this solo inserted between both halves of the song to make it one song. The reason was because 8-tracks are a continuous loop as opposed to the 2-sided album version. This is the first time I have heard this Gilmour solo in 20 years & I do like it.
@dkontis collierbd is right, and as to the tone of the guitar, Gilmour used a tele with a neck humbucker for recording some of Animals, which is why it sounds diffferent from his usual strat tone.
What version is this? There is not usually a solo :O
