I can't help but think that Avatar wasn't actually a 'good' film. The writing sucked, the acting was lame, and it is derivative. It had awesome special effects and all, but it wasn't best picture material.

Also, it had a very much needed and significant message about what greed and destroying the environment does in the end. It had great actors and a wondeful uniqueness to it in the story to boot. I was and still am extremely ticked that 'Avatar' didn't win best picture. I hope one or both of the sequels win that award.

The oscars are a joke! They always pick the wrong movie. The Hurt Locker is probably the most overrated film of the decade. Avatar should not have won though, the film has amazing visuals but an all too familiar and cliche plot (basically Dances with Wolves in space!). The movie that should have won is District 9! It had the most intriguing and thought provoking plot of all the nominees and is probably one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. It is an outrage that District 9 is so underrated!

Avatar is also one of the most powerful and effective plots ever put onscreen, and THAT (not effects) is what differentiates it.

I have no idea why the Blind Side was even considered, the movie was shit. Avatar was pretty good, it was like most movie's just better effects. the hurt locker had much more of a story than avatar. It was not just about a bomb squad in Iraq, it was about young men being sent overseas and getting addicted to the adrenaline rush of warfare, which turns them into bloodthirsty warriors fighting for freedom. It is just as political as avatar, probably more so actually, but it is MUCH deeper. It has many dimensions, whereas avatar is about flat characters and 3D and cgi effects.

Twilight, new moon, transformers 1 and 2, 2012.. all high grossing films, but also all compete shit. It is about overall story, acting and directing, which were all extremely lacking in avatar. If u r basing your top films solely on money, then you're second best film would be Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (it is the second highest grossing film in 2009, but it won the Golden Raspberry for worst film). So the best film of the year is not necessarily the highest grossing one.
Most of Hollywood doesn't see green screen acting. Was there tons in LOTR? yes. But the name alone meant it was going to rake in awards. Avatar had gorgeous visuals and decent action. The message was beyond cliche and the Academy borked it. I am not even going to go into the politics, as Hollywood has a serious dislike of Cameron for some reason.

Not only was Inglourious Basterds script the best of the year, but one of the best of the decade. This film is golden and will be remembered as a classic. It is also proof that film is not dead (and that the Academy Awards may very well be). The oscars are a joke! They always pick the wrong movie. The Hurt Locker is probably the most overrated film of the decade. Avatar should not have won though, the film has amazing visuals but an all too familiar and cliche plot (basically Dances with Wolves in space!). The movie that should have won is District 9! It had the most intriguing and thought provoking plot of all the nominees and is probably one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. It is an outrage that District 9 is so underrated!

Sharlto Copley is up for Sci-Fi Actor and District 9 is up for Sci-Fi film at the Teen Choice Awards. I know it's no Oscar but D9 and especially Sharlto deserve at least one award commemorating their work. It'd be great if people went to the TCA site and voted once a day.

Avatar's plot is NOT unoriginal either. That's a myth. As far as Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas, they share themes with Avatar. Maybe a plot point or two. Avatar is also one of the most powerful and effective plots ever put onscreen, and THAT (not effects) is what differentiates it.

Avatar is a mixture of actions, cinema's, thrills, suspense, sounds, 3D effect (good quality), animation, good coverage, science fiction, etc. nearly all the films uses this features and OSCAR knows abt it. but OSCAR is given Awards to the best use of these features, creating an unbelievable, imaginery, questioning and doubting feelings.... I have no idea why the Blind Side was even considered, the movie was shit. Avatar was pretty good, it was like most movie's just better effects. The Hurt Locker was just ok in my books, yea I sat and was interested but I wouldn't have given it the oscar. Out of this list my favorite was District Nine, to me it pulled in all of the other characteristic's of the other movies and made one great movie.

the hurt locker had much more of a story than avatar. It was not just about a bomb squad in Iraq, it was about young men being sent overseas and getting addicted to the adrenaline rush of warfare, which turns them into bloodthirsty warriors fighting for freedom. It is just as political as avatar, probably more so actually, but it is MUCH deeper. It has many dimensions, whereas avatar is about flat characters and 3D and cgi effects.

Ok first off, the hurt locker is not even close to the lowest grossing film. Second, the academy awards arent about net grossing. I dont know why I keep having to bring this up to you avatar fanatics, but the amount of money you make has NOTHING to do with it. Twilight, new moon, transformers 1 and 2, 2012.. all high grossing films, but also all compete shit. It is about overall story, acting and directing, which were all extremely lacking in avatar. in what way is the hurt locker concept any better than any other war movie which is out there?? and trust me there are hundreds of war movies! it has nothing original in it because it copies reality and it even got a law suit claiming copyright issues so in what way is the Hurt Locker an original movie, granted it has better acting and a more social message but don't go jabbering about originality cause there this movie sucks big time!

Not only was Inglourious Basterds script the best of the year, but one of the best of the decade. This film is golden and will be remembered as a classic. It is also proof that film is not dead (and that the Academy Awards may very well be). If you have seen Inglourious Basterds and have even a lick of good taste in film, you will understand enough said...

I understand the sound design/editing wins (for Hurt Locker), but Best Picture and screenplay. Thats bullshit. Both should have gone to Inglourious Basterds. In fact, the only reason they didn't was because the Academy is not fond of Tarantino.
