  • je suis sure que vous regretter le developement je prefere appelle ca la destructionc est vraiment triste ils devraient tout arreter et revivre comme avant plaese stop ne detruisser pas cette belle ilot ieland

  • "Oh poor Pacific Islanders who are losing their atoll due to climate change." This short video says nothing and proves nothing. This is not story telling. President Tong is not a responsible source for the truth. After having spent 4 weeks on Tarawa, Kiribati this summer the problems of Kiribati far exceed the scope of most videos posted here on YouTube. It's about time someone stepped up to tell the Kiribati story with integrity.

  • @itzawrap could you perhaps tell us some of the missed problems then?

  • What an absolute load of crap. I feel sorry for the people of Kiribati watching their homeland disappear. But how can anyone listen to this nonsense and not ask "What about ALL THE OTHER low lying land in the world"... These corrupt money grubbing politicans would have us believe the sea is rising in Kiribati and nowhere else. You'd have to be pretty thick to believe the sea is rising in Kiribati.

  • @toranamunter errr... actually the politicians in most low-lying areas of the world are screaming at the top of their lungs that the sea is rising way faster than they can deal with it.

Your supposition is completely wrong sir.

The sea IS rising, and these poor island nations are all paying the price!

  • @toranamunter dont be so stupid, i have completed a BSc degree in Environmental Science, I have family on Kiribati, it seriously offends me in what you are saying, go there and get a grip "toranamunter" its not good.

  • @lnemec2 I never said the high water mark isn't rising. Don't be offended, I'm concerned for the residents also. But surely with your education you can understand the concept that a rising high tide mark on a Pacific atoll doesn't mean that the sea is rising? Before a government claims to the world that the sea is rising and the world must pay more foreign aid, the more likely cause of land subsidence must be disproven first. Absence of GPS land elevation survey data must be viewed with interest

  • i was born there, brought up in australia and i'm still trying to get used to walking on rocks, bloody hell!!!!!!

  • wow.. wouldn't believe i'd see my grandpa Uriam n dad Torote here on youtube.

most of the ppl here are frm Maiana.. my island home.

it's sad to know what's going on in the world and how it is affecting our small island Nation.

thanks for this video..hope everyone hears our cry n help our country!

  • On holiday in the Dominican Republic we went to a deserted beach, It wasnt white sands I expected it was full of plastic that man tosses away and forgetts about plastic has a longer life than us, our great granchildren can go on an exotic holiday to bath in the sea of plastic.

  • People in the US that want to debate this thing forever are going to have a fun time importing whatever the next energy phenomenon will be when China or Europe comes up with it. The world isn't waiting for us to debate this - they're moving. Meanwhile we stay addicted to fossil fuels (which NOBODY denies will run out in our lifetime) and playing partisan politics to make Al Gore look bad. I'm so glad the US lags behind another innovation because of conservatives obsessed with Gore!

  • I'm sorry you are such a tool for this govt. moneygrab. They have a 300 million dollar surplus that is not being distributed to the people of Kiribati but used by corrupt politicians and ransacked. They are capitalizing on the ignorance of the world population that is getting rich off the global warming hoax.

  • This is very sad, something can be done, but only when it's too late. (As usual).

  • global warming is damn real, people who doesnt goes to school doesnt happen to know the reality of global warming.

  • true, but these islands wash away natrually. new islands form from tides or volcanoes.hawwaii will eventually sink back down into the ocean, its a natrual process

  • Search webshots "coopec100" for 1973 photos

  • Reporters don't mention that the islands are built on Coral bases. The coral is decaying and the land itself is sinking back into the oceans. In many cases the land has been sinking for centuries, and for non coral islands is just the nature of living on volcanic cones that break down. What does this have to do with Global Warming? Nothing.

  • What a joke

This is a UN scam to remove the people to where they can pay tax and fees They are using the people to help push their climate change conn and letting the people use the retric to immigrate to NZ or other western counties. The sea has risen by about 2 millimetres but because these islands are so far from the mainland few people can aford to go there to check for themselves unless you get a UN scientific scolarship.

They could be sinking but that is nothing an excuvator cant fix.

  • I believe Global Warming is a scam, but remember Kiribati is made basically out of a few sand bars sitting in the ocean. So even a little rise in tide can affect them. Most of the houses are 1 foot or less of sea level.

  • MAURI KIT .... Ngai ADAN.i love kiribati......Ngai FROM:china

  • Gayvonne (mom) just sent me the link to this video, will pass it on to other baha'is to see if we can help.

  • I really hope and pray for my people of Kiribati. The effects of global warming are devastating to this region, and totally unfair when the Gilbertese have never contributed anything to this global destruction.

  • thanks for posting this video!!well i do not really gets what it says but i really like the fact that my dad is on it..ahaah.. coz i really miss him and have not seen him for over a year now!!thankz...KB is mah Dad!!!love ya Dadi!!natim teriki temanna n aine aio i hawaii:D:D

  • Those who say that there is no such thing as "global warming" are either totally "ignorant" or are "living in a fantasy world". The injustice and sad thing is that industrial nations are responsible for global warming due to their continue increase in their greenhouse gases' emissions, while the Pacific Island nation become the victims and the most vulnerable to impact of global warming. So, be realistic and sympathetic to victims of global warming and climate change. Read the IPCC reports.

  • there is global worming but not due to ppl activities, its natural and no one can stop i

  • well, those who say that humans from industrial nations are the only ones and factors responsible for global warming are "ignorant" or "living in a fantasy world" too.

the earth has its cycles. every move you make, every breath you take contributes to global warming (you want to talk about CO2 emissions?) i believe we are only accountable for a small portion of why global warming is occuring. i'm not saying it doesn't exist - it's just not all "caused" by industrial nations, period.

  • all this ocean water could easily pumped to some deserts like sahara and gobi to create artificial lakes. PPl are too lazy to construct any worldwide system to get things working. I wont care if the climinate tempeature would rise some 10 kelvin on here. And those artic ice caps are useless so i prefer see them on melted to ocean or camptured to domestic use.

  • This is a good documentary but I really look forward to the day when we have a Pacific Islander narrating a story and telling the world about Climate Change in our region. I hope there is some way we can build the capacity of Pacific peoples so we can tell our own stories.

  • what you guys think is that true to kiribati.

  • That voice sounds so familiar....who could it be? Great job guys

  • Very well done documentary of the evolving tragedy of the low-land nations of the Pacific as global warming increasingly manifests itself.

The producers' images and narratives of Kiribati are poignant, simply stated, and sad. db.syracuse
