i am mesmorized by the sheer joy he experiences when he plays. He is truly one of the best musicians not only of his time, but up to and through the modern jazz musicians today.
On time everytime i listen to it! I always finish my worldly experience listening to Erroll Garner w/ "Concert by the Sea" a Masterpeice! Yes a black Native American man did it! Free Our History and Thee shall be fullfilled by the same Degrees! Logic not Morallity is needed for this journey Kill the putrid ego and let the Sun shine in!
Since descovering Erroll Garner i can truly say his playing sends chills down my spine! He was and still remains rellevant to today in my oppinion as the Michael Jackson of the Keys! It is clear Racism, to hell w/ legalities is the cause of this man not being highlighted in any Jazz shows i have seen in over 30 years of my life! TY poster of this great contribution to a very much intentionally distorted History as told by Godly Ordained, by who (?) Generals!
Wish there was a little more volume. But thanks so much for this. . . one of the great performances ever seen in jazz. This Man really shows you how its done.
Gracias, muchas gracias.
Grew up with this music in the 50's. My brother played Garner, Brubeck,Peterson, Shearing, over and over again. I could not understand how he could like music which did not have someone singing words. And although I like all types of music I thank my brother for THIS. Brilliant. Vale Erroll.
Just came across all this incredible EG after years of forgetting him. What a lucky kid I was -- I realize now -- my mom was a singer who retired young to have a family and my dad loved jazz and 'stereo' equipment. Garner's self-taught genius among many other greats filled the houses of my youth...God Bless EG!
The first time I've heard of Erroll Garner was one late night. I was watching Classic Arts Showcase. Indeed this is classic. I love it when he makes grunts or talks when he tickles those ivorys.
This man would cut 4 entire albums in one day. They would give him list of songs to play cold. He'd do most in one take. Compare that to rock "musicians" who take months or years to do one simple-minded CD.
This is amazing. To me this type of jazz is what its all about, improvisation without meandering too far off course which I think so many jazz musicians do. 'Cannot see the forest for the trees' so to speak. Errol Garner sees it all.
Still unbelievable -- a piano player touched by God. Apart from the brilliant, effortless performance, I especially dig those wonderful close-ups of his face -- a man deeply in love with his music and the audience.
Feel free to drop by my little swingin jazz site. The link is in my profile.
'On the street where you live' - the first half of this video, is a master class in pure swing. His playing had a unique quality and he never tries to impress anyone with dazzling technique. Check out 'September Song' if you can find it.
I'm 64 y.o. and have been listening to this stuff since I was about 10. This is pure joy. Thanks to the "Posters" and to YouTube. Now I sit in front of my PC each night and watch these guys. This is as good as it gets.
Erroll is simply playing sexy piano:D. Noone can imitate him. The most fascinating thing is his sense of harmonies, to have improvisation and to find back to the theme. No Jazzer did it like him. Outstanding as always!!!
I TOTALLY agree with you 'dizzypuppy'...Erroll Garner is one of the very BEST jazz pianists EVER! Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this 'My Fair Lady' medley!
song is great, but i wonder why they needed to be all sweat. lights were too bright and too hot? inefficient air circulation? I feel like i'm also so hot too...
Speaking as a musician and singer, I understand the "sweat' the great Mr. Erroll Garner has...many think that playing the piano is 'playing' and not work. Also, if you listen to the precise notes Mr. Garner is striking, he NEVER misses a note, and that takes WORK. He is an exceptional pianist, and he expresses his notes not only with precision, but a heavier strike to the notes. I hope this helps you, no harm intended. I also believe the hot lights contribute, as with any performers on stage.
Erroll always perspired when he was playing - he certainly gave it his all. Anyway, get past the sweat and appreciate a genius if you will. Enjoy! Andrew
Very nice, but for once I find my great friend Erroll a bit heavy handed; I prefer the My Fair Lady album Oscar Peterson made around 1960, with the ultra light touch he had then.
This is superb - but I found out something interesting when Erroll Garner signed his autograph for me in London in 1962: He was left-handed!
How about that?
