  • I may need this video for an informative speech I'm doing - if you don't mind.

    *ignores post above*

  • @Cozypup Sure go ahead :)

  • i read a book about big cats in Africa. It said that on this part of the world black leopards and black servals are mostly found on the Kilimanjaro slopes, high plateaus and high up in general. I assume that their black fur helps them to keep warm in the fresh mountain air.

In South America some jaguars' black color doesn't seem to affect their ability to live in the wild. They can hide just as well as an orange jaguar.

  • @julosx I've never heard of black servals, leopards and servals tend not to live at higher altitudes either??

  • Hey do you guys have jaguars? They are my fave big cat! If you have some I would appreciate making a species spotlight on them! Thanks!

  • @loly7781 No we don't have jaguars or cheetahs :)

  • @BigCatRescue

    aww:(

  • My personal interaction with them is enlightening to say the least. They are loving, adapt social skills to survive and are also very very intelligent. My girls never attacked or tried to harm me when I was not looking at them. All big cats in India were looked upon as manifestations of the Great Lord Vishnu in his Narashima Avatar.Which is why they were everywhere till the Europeans came and shot them up.Anyway we must save them for future generations of mankind. No excuses.Cheers mate.

  • He is so right about not keeping these cats as pets, they make horrible pets for people to have. You want to see a Leopard go to Africa or Asia and see them in the wild, or go to Santuaries like Big Cats Rescue and learn about them as wild animals. They are such beautiful cats with their spots, and they look better on the cat and not people.

  • ty been looking for documentaries on black leopards for ages, V informative! ty ^^

  • Isn't there like dark brown panthers and black panthers? Dark brown meaning only one parent had the gene, the other didn't. And black meaning that both parents had the gene or only one parent having the gene (if that makes sense). So if both parents had the gene, wouldn't the cub be completely black, and only seeing the rosettes in teh right light....? I mean.. I'm not sure...

  • @Cozypup There's only one kind of black leopard they may vary in color/different shades etc... but still the same cat, they will always have the rosettes no matter what also.

  • @BigCatRescue

    Thanks for clarifying!

  • It is just plain foolish to try to keep a leopard, tiger or any big cat as a pet.People think they can tame them you cant it does not matter if you raised it from birth or not. They will always have that wild streak in them. Then people wonder why they turn on them.Remember Roy Horn?

  • @SuperAuschwitz We wish everyone shared the same view of things as you!

  • Leopards are like the raptors from Jurassic Park. " If you look at her you can see she's working things out...they remember..." ;p Cool cats.

  • Gee, I wonder what position Big Cat Rescue will take with regards to the leopard population? And where is Ungulate Rescue, with regards to leopard numbers? Is there even an Ungulate Rescue organization? Maybe we should start one to balance the field. I'm just saying, why is nobody looking out for the innocent deer that the leopards are wantonly murdering?

  • Pretty baby

  • Actually leopards in Africa are havoc wreakers -- getting into garbage cans and wandering onto property and causing destruction, but due to poaching the status is threatened.

  • This guy is a fucking moron... Leopards are not endagered there everywhere in Africa maybe in some suburban cities they are annoyances and driven out, but chetahs are the ones that are becoming endangered

  • I think you're mistaken, leopards are still in trouble, maybe not as much as cheetahs but they are still in trouble in the wild :)

  • lol its freaking big cat rescue. if anyone knows about the decline of big cats (and other cats) im fairly certain its them. and almost all big cats are at a decline no matter how quickly it is moving.

  • Can't you just say you disagree without calling him that?

  • i know you can tell the diffrents bewteen Leopards and Jaguars becaues of their size and the spots inside of the spots of the Jaguar.

But how can you tell the diffrents bewteen black Jaguar and Black Leopard? Also I hear the melanistic color of the Black Jaguar and Leopards are not mutations like the white tigers. Like I mean it is common for a Healthy pair of Orange Spotted Jaguars to give birth to a heathly black Jaguar and its normal right? Can two black Jaguars give birth to a Orange Jag?

  • I guess it just comes down to size and shape, the jaguar is more stocky when compared to the leopard. It is healthy and not unusual for two orange jags/leopards to give birth to a mixed litter of cubs, I can't find any reference to your last question?

  • actually according to Genetics they should be able to but it depends on the two black jaguars parents. if they are pure black jaguars(homozygous) (both of their mothers and fathers were black.) there would be a minimal if any chance of an orange jaguar. but if atleast one parent is "Half black" (Heterozygous) (lets say 1 parent out of the 4 is orange.) then its possible to have an orange jaguar. Jaguars have melanism in the dominant allele. (meaning its very likely to find black ones)

  • I had no idea about the black leopard I thought it was a black panther.

    beautiful animal, BCR Rocks!

  • I liked the video. but 3 times their body wait? and sometimes 5? everything I've ever heard of or read has said they can lift a maximum of twice their body wait up a tree. I'm just curious, can someone explain? preferably BigCatRescue. thanks.

  • Wonderful video and report. You've said it all. Leopards are marvellous animals. They live mainly in places where there are rocks and especially caves. Under the rocks or inside the caves, they get the best atmospheric temperature and calm, away from outside noise and disturbance.

If rocks are removed from an area, the leopards move away.

  • I didn't know that, thanks! Also they love to climb trees, store their kill up there and keep safe from other predators like lions and hyenas!

  • Question, if someone were to get one of these panthers when it was young, and declaw it, how much of a danger would it be to the owner once it reached maturity? You kind of hinted that they are inclined to attack you if you expose your back to them, is that true?

  • It's their natural instinct to stalk if you turn your back on them and they feel like stalking you! People de claw and de fang these cats and try and keep them as "pets". But pound for pound they are still ALOT stronger than a person and are built to kill things the size of people easily. Of course it's always the cats that will suffer, from being privately owned, small cages never compete with hundreds of square miles! Thanks for watching!

  • i watch bigcatrescue religously.keep up the good work of saving such magnificent creatures.

  • That's good to know, thanks for watching!

  • Isn't the tiger the one of the big cats that have killed the most people of all four big cats? I have also heard that most wild tigers have a natural hate towards humans.

  • I think you're right in saying that the tiger as killed the most people out of all big cat species, I wouldn't say they had a natural hate towards people though.

  • I've seen that intelligence first hand. I was at the Maryland Zoo Friday and they were actually training their male Leopard to do tricks like shake, paw, high five, sit, lay down kind of stuff and it did so just like a dog. Pretty cool.

On conservation, it really sucks we're half a world away and can't do much of anything about it to have an effect in saving the animal in the wild.

Thanks for the info. Are the Leopards talked about in Asia the same size as Africa?

  • It does suck but we've gotta keep trying and not make it easy for people to keep wiping these animals out. Asian and African leopards are pretty much the same size, thanks for watching!

  • kJUYTAQWEFKC Bq

  • I'm not sure we don't have any contact with our cats, we all think that the fur looks better on the cats though compare to being on a floor! Thanks for watching!

  • has there been proven to be a black cougar?

I hear rumors but nver see pictures or anything...

  • There as been reports from several states in the US, none of which have been confirmed and no photographic evidence as been captured.

  • BigCatRescue witch do u consider the more powerful cat between a jaguar and a leopard at same weight....witch whould win in a fight considering theyr personalities and witch could kill the larger pray....thanks

  • I think overall the way a jaguar is built shorter stockier limbs would be more powerful than the leopard, they pretty much kill prey which is the same size though.

  • are they the same as black panther? is the same? black leopard, black jaguar and black panther. please I wanna know.

  • Yes, a black panther is actually a black leopard they still have their spots and are more of a chocolate colour and are the same genetically as a golden leopard. Black Jaguars are a seperate species to leopard but they are the same cat as a golden jaguar, the colour is called melanistic, where the black pigment takes over.

  • Sadly though, a big kitty like this would eat anyone who wanted to own it... lol

  • i love big cats!! its such a shame that many people kill them.. i dont think people would like it if they were endangered and ot killed but other big weird lookin things that they have never co-operated with D=< i would jus like to say.. BIGCATS4EVA!!! u are a beautiful sanctuary u guys, keep it up!

  • Agreed! I love big kitties.. Cutest animals. I wish I could have a black leopard or any leopard or big kitty as a pet :D. Such an amazing animal.

  • almost 5 times their body weight erm no... i have watched enough programs to know that is not true twice their own body weight is what you mean

  • no 5 times is true...the males that is, you must be thinking of a female.

  • Love all big and small cats and will join the site...

  • Thank you very much, i have join the site you recommended me,thanks again :)))

  • HURRAY!! Go and add us as your friend there and drop us a message there.

  • Leopard has been my fevorite Big cat since i was young.

I use to watch NGO abt this leopard name "JAMU" which was rescue by a team of Animal consevation, she grew up beautiful but sadly her life ends when one night another adult leopard kill her n her body was eaten by the Hyeenas, its really sad n i cried for days till i dare not watch it again...really sad.

  • NuraMeraPyar, I, too, really love leopards. Things like what you described is very sad. You have to try to focus on the positives. You seem to have a very kind and loving heart. THANK YOU for caring about the animals. Please visit ChatBigCats*com. It is not a chat room but is a site like YouTube except ALL the videos are about animals, nothing but animals.

  • Awesome! i love Big cats

  • NuraMeraPyar, thank you for watching our video and taking the time to post a comment. Which big cat is your favorite?

  • best big cats, shame they can be man eaters T_T i really wanted one as a pet lol XD

  • Very informative vid Scott! It never ceases to amaze me how smart and strong these ultra-felines are. I recently finished reading a book by Peter Capstick where he talked about finding a 450 pound kudu cow that had been killed by a leopardess estimated to weigh just 100 pounds!

  • CritterFreak83, Greater Kudus can get very large. They can be fierce fighters, too. Just goes to show the extreme agility and strength of leopards. THANK YOU so much for sharing your comment with us. Do you have a favorite leopard at Big Cat Rescue? Also, did you know you can get FREE leopard wallpapers and screensavers from our main website?

  • Don't get confused. Leopards and jaguars are NOT one big cat species. They're in fact two different species. You can tell by their body build. Leopards live in Africa and Asia, and jaguars live in Central and South America rainforests. Both species can have melanistic mutations, and so we have black leopards and black jaguars. Keep in mind that they're different and live in different continents, OK? ;)

  • That male looks huge, beautiful!!!

  • i like leopards - but you're damn hot!

  • Ah..leopards. My favorite cat. I especially love the "Black" leopards.

  • Experiment900, Thank you so much for your comment. Please forgive me for not replying to your comment sooner. Big Cat Rescue has a few black leopards. Have you visited Big Cat Rescue to see them?

  • great video. and your pretty cute yourself =)
