I had a German Shepard back in the 70s that did the exact same thing, I didn't teach him he just started to pick up a log about the same length and diameter as the one in the video. He had it chewed in the center and it would take two or three attempts to get it balanced then prance around the yard proud as hell.

He's a nice looking dog. But don't be offended by honest assessment. When looking at him from front he is round withou shoulder definition. When looking at him from the side his belly is as low as his chest. If he was a female after having a litter then not overweight. He is not obese, but he is a little overweight. He needs more exercise and a more refined diet. He is a regal animal. Present condition doesn't do him justice

That's a lovely dog but that 4x4 is nowhere big enough to display his real power. I once had a gorgeous Shep who got his Canadian championship just before he turned 2. At his peak he weighed 97 lb. which is accepted in the west but a bit too big for the true German standard. I measured a 16' long 2x8 and found the dead center. I told my dog to "take it" and he took that huge 40 lb. board in his mouth and took off down the alley with it, balancing it all the way with powerful neck muscles.

German Shepherd's and Syberian Husky's are very strong, we have a Pure breed Husky that likes to chew door ways and one time pulled the trim off the wall! It was funny waching her trying to get the long trim through the door way :) Now we keep it in a crate once in a while so that it doesn't destroy the house when were gone lol.
