  • Howard Devoto, Magazine........they are truly amazing. I saw them recently in Sheffield and am still on a high from the gig.

  • splendid!

new Magazine cd to be released in 3 weeks:

    "No Thyself" w/Noko on guitar

  • I didn't know Christian Bale played guitar.... 2:30-2:33, 2:46-2:49

  • Where they like the first indie band?

  • Intelligent beuatiful sexy music so powerful and an obvious step after Magazine it should have been HUGE

  • i think luxuria was devoto's next big step after magazine.

  • This is the reason I am here. On Earth I mean. The music just sucks elsewhere.

  • Buzzcocks,Magazine & Luxuria three GREAT bands...Devoto brilliant.

  • howard is the most talented poet and musician ever x

  • @ulfgar26 I totally agree..but we must also give credit to another great musician and poet..Steve Kilbey frontman from the band The Church.

  • Love this band...The entire album is excellent.

  • fkn yeeessss!

  • It's not Magazine but it's different.Had this album back in the day and I consider this to be the best track off it.If Howard ever decided to play some gigs in Australia again I would so be there.

  • This band has a really interesting sound.the production with Devoto's voice swimming on top submerges some amazing instrumental work.with drums pretty heavy.what happened with this band ? didn't know Devoto had substance addiction problems is he still alive ?

  • Thanks for posting this. I guess SOME people need to remember when this was recorded, both the video and the song. Videos still had explored every angle, yet Devoto was doing his best to shape himself into every angle in this one, and musically he has always been a little ahead of the pack. God Bless ya Mr Devoto, and Happy New Year to all.

  • Yeah it's OK material...I bought the album back in the day...it's hardly anything compared to Magazine though.

  • @abagail4me Completely disagree with you. Consider the Unanswerable lust LP far superior to any Magazine LP. I bought this album because I liked the cover. The music more than matched it. From there I worked my way backwards and I know it's gonna make me unpopular but I think Magazine are somewhat overrated. Acknowledge their influence and that their sound was quite distinctive but I don't think any of their songs are as good as say Lady 21

  • Maybe you should find Jerry Brandt's email and ask him. He was the manager of the Ritz at the time. Now go pop your pimples, you fucking idiot.

  • Devoto seems to be a very nice guy.

  • Luxuria was supposed to play in NYC but Devoto walked out when he found out that he wasn't at the top of the bill.

  • I saw them at a dive bar called Bogart's in Long Beach, CA, during the Unanswerable Lust tour... One of the best gigs I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few.

  • Do you happen to remember what songs they played? I'm looking EVERYWHERE for bootlegs of Luxuria and I can't find anything :(

  • @RadioClambake

I was at that sparsely attended show by the sea. Yes, truly one of the very special gigs.

And to the guy who asked "what songs they played?", the answer is, the whole album. That's all they had.

  • hey semiotecs.....you're obscured by the great beautician in the sky himself...nice bass though.

  • ....you can find me between the waitress and her..uh..table.

  • and the service is very very good

  • Howard :*

  • Fuckademus and pliers... that's me on the bass :-{}

  • ...srsly??

What is Howard trying to do during 0:09-0:10?? It looks dangerous!

  • the great Noko and Devoto are to be reunited again the latest magazine line-up, folks

  • Easily Magazine can play also Luxuria songs, it's also (and almost) Luxuria...Barry Adamson and Dave Formula also collaborated with that band.

  • the great Noko and Devoto are to be reunited again the latest magazine line-up, folks

  • Luxuria kick Radiohead's butt! My fave line is: "Watch me bite on a bullet & spit out a limousine" Devoto is a true poet!

  • @MothraBlues How about "Ever since they fixed the lights in here this place has gone downhill"!

  • What a truly great, timeless song; It's sad Devoto never found the widespread acceptance granted Thom Yorke.

"I've bought knowledge at the cost of a complete loss of self-control."

    Brilliant, that.

  • Cracking song, not heard that in ages. that first Luxuria lp was super superb

  • What a great song!!!

  • absolutely fantastic, I saw Luxuria at BURBERRIES in Birmingham during this time and at the end of Parade a Magazine song, I was right down the front and Mr Devoto high fived us all before jumping off the stage and away, touched by the hand of God!

  • I saw this back when the single was released and bought every Luxuria record as they came out. Nice to revisit it... pure brilliance. Unfortunately they fade out the song before the punch-line, perhaps considered simply TOO intense... "or I simply may be evil." Thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic song and a great band. Thank you for posting it as I never got the chance to see it the first time around!

  • watever happnd to the rainy season

  • wow. Devoto's a legend. I love Magazine, first time I have heard this band, It's a great song.

  • wtf is that

  • Bloody hell!! That's me on the drums!!!!

  • Do you have any bootlegs of Luxuria live?

  • Brilliant, one of the best music videos ever.

  • i dont know if ive commented about this video before, but i love you immensely for posting it

  • Only good song Luxuria ever recorded! but Devoto is a ledge for his Magazine stuff

  • But . . . But . . . What about "Dirty Beating Heart"?

    *sniff*

  • Two then (maybe!)

  • @princepetr What a gavin!

  • Great song - poor video. The best version to get is the 12" single.

  • Wow, what a terrible music video - but a great song, and two very awesome people. I'd known all music videos from the Beast Box album, but wasn't even aware Redneck had a music video until I stumbled across this. Thank you for sharing this gem! :)

  • Speaking as a "knowitall Yank", LUXURIA AND HOWARD DEVOTO RAWK!

re: Jerky Versions of the Dream

Didn't dig it over much haven't listened to it since original. Get at me with info to mail a CD copy of it to you.

  • I loved Magazine & Buzzcocks but found Luxuria heavy going sometimes.I came on here looking for Beast Box though (not found).

Howard Devoto was way ahead of his time.

  • Lovely vid/song. Unanswerable Lust is VERY good. Would be grateful if anyone can do me acopy of Jerky Versions Of The Dream - copies here in Poland (Warsaw) as a little thin on the ground (permafrost?!).Thanks for the vid.

  • is it me, or is 'opinionated9' a major f-head? p'raps best not to discuss something you obviously know nothing about, as for eating yr s**T, have to empty yr nappy first. Devoto IS a genius and you come across like a total tit! Anyway, talking to the grown up's now - has anyone been able to get a copy of Jerky Versions of the Dream?

  • MANY THANKS! Howard rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song. I completely forgot about the two LP's he recorded as Luxuria. Must dig them out.

  • Wow! You own your own company. I'll bet it's really successful. So successful you have time to leave retarded messages on this site, old man. Fact.

It's too bad you live so far away, or I'd show you who's a 14yr old whatever, fuckhead.

Long live the Bangles. Eat my shit.

  • Devoto is a genius and anyone with any respect realises how important this man is. He influences bands to this day.

  • Beyond silly; this is pretentious horse shit. Wake up.

  • Opiate9 - STFU you are in the prescence of the mighty Howard Devoto.

    Dom

  • Right. Fuck off. This is another example of what is wrong with music. Howard Devoto, whoever the fuck that is, can lick my sack. You probably need YOUR ass kicked, too. Anyone limp enough to enjoy listening to his slobber needs to go get a job.

  • I own my own company - Fact (IT consultancy to BT)

Ass kicked - your welcome to try but I suspect a limp wristed wankoid 14 year old whose only strength is gettinga stiffy at the sight of Bella Emberg isn't going to be the one doing the kicking - FACT.

Oh yeah and Howard Devoto is instrumental in pre and post Punk Music in the world - FACT.

Now please go back to discussing your Bangles collection and leave this to the grown ups.

    Dom

  • haha. I only now read your "fact" response from 4 months ago. I'll assume you're facts are straight, and you can assume mine are, too, though we're too far from each other to settle this 'properly'. I'm a bit over half your age, I'm plenty big enough to take care of myself and I fight well - but again, who cares, we'll never meet. Shame. I'm sure you wouldn't be "doing the kicking".

  • Also, for the fuck of it, I gave Defago here another listen and it still sounds like shit. But I know you enjoy it, so bon appetite, Dom. Have another boring shit sandwich and go on about how instrumental people are in pre and post punk music. You're brilliant.

  • @Elektrapunk You may be right but he had a fair point. Your emphasis on "FACT", came across a bit...... well, FACisTic. What was the relevance of you informing him that you have your own company? Also I rather doubt he has any idea who Bella Emberg is. No, I didn't like him either!

  • Sorry but you are wrong pal . Devoto is a legend years ahead of his time and why is EVERY single idiot on here some know-all yank who isnt/wasnt old enough to appreciate the genuis's of modern day music ?

  • Sorry that comment is meant for opiate9 not you . The 9 in his name defines his mental age I think judging by the shite he spouts !

  • "Devoto is a legend years ahead of his time and why is EVERY single idiot on here some know-all yank who isnt/wasnt old enough to appreciate the genuis's of modern day music ?"

    Not this Yank.

  • Is it the video you find silly? The song itself is a brilliant piece of pop.

  • Frankly, I don't give a shit for either. Look...I love music. I'm a musician, for fucksake. I play, write, perform, record. Been playing a long time. I love all different types of music. But if you're the type of person who lets himself get yanked around by a total stranger on the internet because he says your music is silly (see 'Electrapunk'^), you take music, the internet and yourself WAY too seriously. I don't care what anyone else listens to, it's all fun. So is fucking with idiots. Fact.

  • Read your own words, you're the guy who is taking himself way too seriously. There's nothing in what I asked you that warrants an angry and over-the-top response like that. I simply asked straightforward question and stated I liked the song.

  • Your a musician - So lead me to your output and if it's any good I'll not come over and boot yer botty!

    Dom

  • I didn't notice the the war of words with Elektrapunk & threats of fisticuffs. opiate9 is entitled to his opinion on music, but he undercuts himself with the homophobic slur on Devoto, who I don't think is gay. That opiate9 does not seem to know that Howard Devoto was the original singer for the Buzzcocks, and was always cutting edge with Magazine & Luxuria shows his combo of ignorance and arrogance that is ugly in a young person and only gets more poisonous with age.

  • Oh please. Homophobic slur? It was a joke, jackass. I know who he was and who he was with and couldn't care less. I used to love Black Flag. Who cares? Consider getting over your highbrow regard for goofy punk rock, and I'll consider giving the same punk rock another chance. Right? heehee. Won't happen.

And talking to me, ABOUT me, in the 3rd person is really odd.

  • OK, I'll be more direct. As far as I can tell by your comments, you're probably just a garden variety asshole. It's so easy in a forum like this to just say any kind of nonsense. After 55 years on the planet, my taste in music varies wildly. However, I suspect we have more in common than we'll ever know.

  • More in common, yeah, possibly; we both apparently have way too much time on our hands.

Garden variety asshole? Hardly. Antagonistic asshole, occasionally. And you're welcome to go fuck yourself for another 55 years.

    Have a great Thanksgiving, bloke.

  • haista kuule jätkä pitkä paska. Ja kuori saman tien rupinen persees. OK?

  • Either you're speaking some weird Viking language or you're getting boned up the ass as you write. Which is it, sweetheart?

  • kylä näin o

  • this album, unanswerable lust, is a classic.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this, I thought I was Luxuria´s only fan left:)
