  • are u just using 90% iso alcohol?

  • No-- 90% methanol

  • I like your idea for the sloppy Joe's. I did have a thought that using all the same ingredients but instead of sloppy Joe mix a chili mix. This is just another idea for the trail.

  • Tinny, two questions. The "joe" looks a tad runny, have you thought about using corn starch? Also, are you familiar with Steak-umm thin sliced frozen steaks? I've got to wonder if those might work out better for dehydration and reconstitution than the ground beef.

  • Too much water--learning curve---The steakums might just work

  • looks good!

  • So, you join the Crips or something?

  • You forgot to put--LOL after that comment---LOL--

  • of course I was kidding. I need to get in the hiking mode again.

  • lots of good Ideas Tinny ! keep it up !

  • hey i tried this and added a beff bulioun cube it really bumps it up!

  • lol heaping spork as a measurement

  • You are soooo adorable when you cook! I'd love to see a demonstration of you baking on your new bongo stove. Warmly, Laurie

  • tinny, i have three words for you... YOU ARE AWESOME!

  • What is a sporks?

  • a spoon on one end, a fork on the other

  • @q1qeu thanks!

  • A piece of flatware with a fork on one end and a spoon on the other. It can also be a spoon with a serrated tip that can be used like a fork--kind of

  • Tinny I cooked trail Sloppy joe with hamburger helper. I have a vid on my page, check it out!

  • I ask again Tinny, why do you not write a cook book? Make it packable and it to will sele. By the way you only used 3+ scoops of gravle with 4 it would have thinked up more than it did.... It's good to be Tinny.

  • Mix in some dehydrated onions, green peppers and a pack of ramen noodles.... whoo hooo. It'd make a rabbit slap a bull dog.

  • I know of a type of cornstarch you can get that well thinkin without having to be simered. Also a little bit of powered geletin might give that the meatiness and fatiness you want.

  • "Heaping Sporks" :)

  • I LOVE your cooking videos. You really don't do enough of them. =]] 5 outa 5

  • I usually eat about 1/2 lbs of burger at a time, I dont think 4 spork fulls of hamburger would be enough

  • it is surprising but dehydrated burger is about 4 times as small and light as fresh cooked so the four heaping spork fulls would be equal to 6 or 8 oz of cooked burger

  • Really, that suprizing. I remember watching a video when you dehydrated some burger and I was wondering why, lol, good stuff to know, thanks

  • Great 1 Tinny,

I am planning my 1st multi day hike and I LOVE your cooking videos. You really don't do enough of them.

    Keep 'em coming!

    5/5

  • I've had success with the following to add a little fat to dehydrated hamburger. Meals with taco or chili like spices I've added a tablespoon of shelf stable bacon pieces/bits or EV olive oil for Italian style meals. Ghee has worked in a pinch but is better with meals with tuna/salmon/chicken that is rehydrated or from a pouch.

  • i love sloppy joe's .... tinny ... did you notice that when you mentioned the "spork" .. you must have lost count ? ... you said you would put in 4 heaping spoons of hamburger.. and probably a little more.. but if you look closely .. its only 3.. and a little more ;-) .. love your video's ... just thought i would mention it :-) all the best to you .. keep up the awsome videos

  • Nice video! Always good to see another use for dehydrated beef. ;)

Another option would be to make standard Sloppy Joes at home on the stove - preferably from scratch with lean ground beef and fresh seasonings. Then, let the mix cool....and dehydrate the ENTIRE meal!

I've done this for backpacking before and it reconstitutes really nicely, especially if you let it sit in water for 30 minutes before heating. The same trick will work for spaghetti, chili, etc.

    Cya!

  • Where do you buy the tomato powder from?

  • BAM!

  • I bet if you smashed up some hard shell tacos in that and let it soak and let them get soft, that would be very good!!!

  • So do you take more then one stove when you hike or do you and a good stove to simmer on?
