  • Just checking back in to let you know how the all grain version turned out: Its awesome! Best APA I made yet. Lots of hop aroma and flavor, bitterness is just enough to counter the nice malt backbone it has.

Definitely needs the simcoe though, the chinook don't quite cut it. I think some honey malt might be nice too, I'm just concerned it will taste a bit too much like hopslam then.

    We shall see.

  • @iwasapenny Excellent! It's fun to play around with different hops to get new tasty flavors. I started off the 15-minute recipe with Amarillo. Lots of grapefruit. Cheers! - James

  • I made an all grain version of this and I substituted chinook for the simcoe. Another week or so before I can keg it and it smells fantastic! Cant wait to try it.

  • @iwasapenny Yum! Let us know how it turns out. - James

  • How the hell did you get those camera shots from inside the boilpot?...or was it not even hot water at the time? See you in SoCal this month. Any plans on going to the Alesmith Barrel Aged Speedway Release (its the same week)?

  • @BMan1113VR Your brewpot doesn't have a built-in camera? Dude. :-)

We haven't finalized our plans for the week. That does sound tasty. Be sure to say "howdy" in SD!

  • HI guys. Noel [originally from Puerto Rico now living in Iowa]. Have been brewing for 3 yrs. now. Have to say that have learn a lot from my Papazian book and your podcasts cheers!

  • @BPRSB Cheers!

  • Holy cats! You goof balls. That was funny. Sounds like a yummy pale ale. The underwater cam is cool. Nice effect. This is an interesting idea. You could cut out a full length boil. You could also use less grain because you would not need to collect as much wort. You could only collect like 5.5 gallons I suppose. Huh. But I do take Flomax! Well I am overjoyed. You guys have fun in San Diego. I know you will.

  • @donosborn Thanks, Don. Knowing you don't have to boil extract for the full hour (or even at all, in the case of liquid) can open several opportunities. This makes the brewday insanely short.

Wish you could join us next month. Cheers!

  • Nothing wrong with extract brewing, it's just (relatively) expensive.

Which dry yeast was used for the experiment?

  • @clyons17 Good question: Safale US 05.

  • Overjoyed lol so Enthusiastic lol
