  • Foxton have a amazing voice!

  • Love that fact it took Marc 6 seconds to read the word jam lol

  • classic JAM dude,,,,,,

  • I love how Marc Bolan says "Jam"

  • @beetlestone11 classic bolan!

  • Lol I must admit the first couple of seconds of the video I thought: "who the fuck does this presenter think he is? Marc Bolan?". The I read the description. I had no idea he had a TV show. Awesome.

  • Why are these bloody cunts going to war between the Clash and the Jam. The Clash is my favorite band and everyone knows they were better than the Jam. The Jam is also one of my favorite bands, but the Clash is my #1 favorite band. Don't be a dumb bitch trying to stir up shit. The Clash were friends with the Jam and hung out with them and helped them by giving them advice and shows in the very early stages of the Jam's career. Be thankful creation blessed us with both of these amazing bands!!!

  • @pwyndam Musical taste is not objective,it's subjective and is therefore just amatter of taste. So your comment that the Clash are better than the Jam is just your opinion.

  • @TheHughes56 Really?, wow thanks for schooling me. I had no idea that was an opinion. Pretty much everything in life is right?

  • play

  • It's amazing Weller and Foxton didn't play together and barely spoke for 28 years following the end of the Jam until Wellers dad and Foxton's wife died within a few weeks of each other in 2010. It must have brought home that lifes too short for that kind of shit. This btw is a great record so exciting and innovative back in 1977.

  • Granada studios will be close in 2013 :(

Granada Studios will close by 2013 when Granada moves to MediaCityUK. The Quay Street site will be sold for redevelopment while the original Coronation Street set could be maintained by MOSI.[8] Granada House is not a listed building and will most likely be demolished despite being the first and oldest operating television studios in the United Kingdom.[9]

    what do you think?

  • OH! FUCK OFF BOLAN!

  • @MrZiggycatt ...Bolan was crucial in the showcasing of New Wave artists. His show aided the first TV appearance of many 'punk' bands which helped the exposure of the New Wave movement at a time when it was shunned by other music programs. Bolan also inspired the 'punk' sound, and many of the artists on his show would have grown up Bolan fans. Now, please could you explain why Bolan should "FUCK OFF"?

  • The Jam. Excellent as usual. The weirdest thing about this is that Granada gave Bolan a show.

  • how long after this show did bolan die ?

  • @TheSeanm102 A few weeks

  • 1st band I ever saw live over 30 years ago and still watching them now....wonder how many kids will say that about todays shite in 30 years ?

  • @passingc kids attention spans today is nada, like most of the music no soul no energy no guts.

  • @indydaisy1 you'd think with our low attention span we'd have more 1 minute punk songs, but noooooo we have 7 minute long slow as fuck 10 person bands

  • @passingc That would be 0 mate just like todays throw away society bollox

  • So good!

reminds me of this band called FUZZ

  • Weller always looked like he was chewing gum while singing? I don't know if he did? One of my fav albums was 'Dig the new breed'

  • @1965Richie

He might have always been speeding off hits tits, therefore requiring gum to stop him grinding his teeth to his gums.

  • early Jam and late Marc all in one glorious video

  • It's THE jam dickhead.

  • I really love this vid, The Jam sound great , high energy though "tight" and real compact. My fave version of this track.

Never knew Marc Bolan had a TV show...

  • @windinizer the series also featured generation x eddie and the hot rods and some more new wave acts that i cant recall bolan was obviously trying to align himself with `new wave` (the damned supported him on tour) calling himself a punk godfather etc .mind you he was a definite influence on punk and many punks discovered pop music by being T.Rex fans (me being one )

  • 24 people are probably JLS fans.

  • Greatest band ever...British Mod rock.

  • Great song! I also love the way the drummer loses his stick at the very end of the song, right before the finale!

  • Crikey I remember watching the Marc Bolan Show as a 15 yr old and thinking, why is this washed up Glam star fronting a music show? Now I can see this was a very brave and successful move by some ITV executive.

It would never happen now, unless it involved one of Cowell's miming idiots.

I also like the way Bolan introduces the band as 'Jam' like you expect to see a jar of Robertson's blackcurrant appear or something.

  • @t0mme1981 And yet Bolan was only 30 when he made this show. Most of the Punk singers are in their early to mid 50's. At least Bolan died young.

  • @MicktheMaster. what a load of rubbish "in response to sex pistole" lol. They were Mods, being punk never crossed their minds. If they had written that line in response to self restraint, than it was likely in response to the Mod movie "Quadrophenia"

  • @xaocam not true - weller says the pistols and clash were a huge influence on him in 1977 as the jam were starting- in fact he said it ws strummer who made him right more about politics- these are wellers own words- yes they were more mod but they took huge cue from punk s well

  • did the bass player say "youth explosion" at 0:55?

  • @Cidantis yes

  • Holy shit...WHEN DID MARC BOLAN GET A SHOW?!?!?!?!

  • i like how paul walks back to far and messes up but recovers brill

  • vigilar vuestras espaldas que el presentador pantera gay esta al acecho

  • @dam80n translated (babelfish) = on the lookout to watch your backs that the presenter panther gay this

  • I think I get the idea , the songs lyrics are shared between two vocalists with good harmony on the chorus parts.

I like how at first the lyric frame work allowed them to sing a line one at a time.

It's as if I could piture two different story lines that made sense when put together.

I'm working on a fusion project of

    [ punk + neo classical ]

I like my punk to be smooth and powerful mixed with a dose of buckethead.

  • 0.22 FAIL

  • better than lady gaga

  • @ufewl obviosly.......give me 1 good song by lady gaga......in fact lady gaga dosn't even count a music.......or human....

  • @ufewl wow there's an extremely unoriginal comment.

  • @KOSMICKEN09 sorry didn't think there would be any gaga fans here to upset, however as it is the top rated comment I will take your unrated comment with a pinch of salt, I don't think you realise the sincerity of the commemt ;)

  • This is the first time I remember seeing The Jam, on the Marc Bolan show back in '77. I've been searching for this performance for years!

  • I WANT THIS RICKENBACKER ...

  • the clash are better than the jam, so jaguars are better than aston martins. ha, ha . i love both bands but i am listening to the band who had most to say and i am not waiting for a quiet life

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAH! AOS 2:20 O BATERISTA 9 DRUMMER) DEIXA ESCAPAR SUA BAQUETA , KARA ISSO DA UMA RAIVA , JÁH AKONTECEU MUITO KOMIGO ISOO KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, MUITOO BOM KKKK

  • raw music, the way it should be

  • @ bloodythinandfast & piledriver89... get a room

  • 21.....pileofshitdriver.....live a little and get back to me when you're a man....you haven't a clue.

  • @bloodythinandfast mate you are so fucking dry im off now clash are better than the jam, and i bet you still live with your mother ahahahahahah muppet

  • Oh yes - Same Marc time - same Mrc Place - He totally misjudged the mood of the nation - PUNK arrives...

  • Yeah. The Jam were well above the Clash. These mother's "Tumped"!

  • When this song came out I left the church choir and ripped up my t-shirts. My parents freaked. Over three decades later I still love this song. BTW, I was singing in the choir again last Christmas; still love music I guess.

  • Unlike most punk bands of the 1970s, the Jam could actually play their instruments...it wasn't just play as fast as you can and hope no one notice. Paul's music is exceptionally well-crafted and the Jam are one of the world's most under-rated bands. I love this stuff.

  • @kwolf68 what like rick dropping his drum stick so they end the song early hoping no one would notice? ha ha.

anyway the Jam where the biggest band ever at the time.they where the first band since Slade to enter the charts at No1 (3 times I think).they were huge as they say 'all around the world' just cause USA didn't wake up to them doesn't mean they were under-rated.

  • I LOVE THIS GUYS!

  • It's Danny from Withnail (Marc Bolan!)

  • Marc was totally off his face when he fronted this show - I saw this show back in the day when I was 17 - check out Rick dropping a stick at the the end and Paul giving him daggers - live TV fuckin awesome

  • @deanok1960 Yes, I noticed Rick dropping a stick. He looks a bit nervous in this performance. It's still a great clip.

  • Paul Weller was 19 in this video. Wow.

  • i could have sworn marc at the start needed to look at the badge to see the name of the band playing, but i'm pretty sure that it was my imagination

  • @Jamesulchip are ya sure

  • Marc Bolan must have seen the writing on the wall for leopardskin leotards and slap when these guys turned up and plugged in lol

  • BRITPOP?

  • is that wemon or man at the start ok????

  • Their musical style was borrowed from the era .... the punk era ... But The Jam were never a punk band.

That's why this song contains the line "what's the point in saying destroy? I want a new life for everywhere". This was a direct riposte to the sex pistols message of "destroy" in Anarchy in the UK ".

  • @MicktheMarmaliser and yet, BOTH tracks are on "the best punk album in the world... ever!" ^^

  • I like the jam, but I'm not a fan of the mod style.

  • How can 22 people dislike this?? This is fantastic music!!

  • @handydandy101 agree !

  • i love all jam shit, all of the different eras of it, all of the paul weller style council shit, all the material he did with ocean colour scene, and smokin mojo filters... but man oh man, nothing beats all the early jam shit when they're just amped up, pissed off, almost (dare i say) punker than fuck, heavy as fuck. weller, foxton, buckler, the most genius three piece to date. don't get me wrong, i like the police, even rush (say what you want) but i love the balls to the wall jam shit.

  • A thinking man's punk band...

  • Love how the drummer lost his stick at the end. Weller and Foxton looked bewildered

  • Ha! I think the bassist and guitarist went to the same shop... both Rickenbacker

  • wicked tunesmith is Weller...I think they're so far above the Clash it's a joke.

  • @bloodythinandfast wow calm down

  • @piledriver89 don't bother with a senseless comment PD89...plenty of people would agree,...pound for pound,The jam are the shit. And you suck for wasting my time.Piss off!

  • @bloodythinandfast shut up you stupid cunt the clash are just as good if not better its like asking whats better the shower or the bath

  • @piledriver89 still wasting my time Clash were just okay and right now,no-one really gives a sh*t about them, however The Jam NEVER went away...go back to the eighties and fucking stay there you dick sucking pansy fart.

  • @bloodythinandfast shut up you fucking muppet i bet your one of them uni students who thinks there a MOD hahah and you think your cool driving a vespa muppet 70s throwback im not really arsed what you have got to say i think both bands are shit hot

  • @piledriver89 still wasting my time,...I was 12 when the Jam made their debut...you are a terrible read and couldn't be further from truth,so do the math...you seem to know a bit too much about Mods, scooters and students you f-n 0===3 head.Fuck the Clash and fuck you too.....arsed??? Who f-n talks like that but a stink mouthed piece of sh*t clash fan...I won't even guess what you are or what your age,...you're just a time wasting nobody with an asshole for an opinion...

  • @bloodythinandfast sounds to me that someones got sand in there vagina grow up mate ur arguing over a computer sad bald spot wanker bet your wife left you cos your a bald spot wanker hahahah muppet

  • @piledriver89 ....just the fact that you're STILL commenting shows you're no f-n better and just a wise a s s piece of dung.I have more hair than you and more teeth. You're a total nad sucker.

  • @bloodythinandfast are you still ranting on over an opinion gety a fuking life and im 21 not 42 do me a favour and jump off a bridge

  • @piledriver89 HAHAHA.....21???? ....no wonder,I thought you were 15....go away boy.

  • @bloodythinandfast angry much :)

  • @nailinghoney2thebee1 ...another waste of time commentor....what is with you people and your undyng need for attention...

  • @bloodythinandfast sod off... I care about the clash right now, big time...

  • @bloodythinandfast Better than the clash??? the clash?????

  • @PBANDSNOW Redundant questions again from waste of time bystanders. It's just my opinion, fuck off already.

  • @bloodythinandfast Well, i think ur so wrong its funny.

  • @bloodythinandfast i agree so much its hilarious

  • @bloodythinandfast wicked tunesmith?...Yes he is.! Better than the clash?....no the'ye not!

  • @clashboy1977 Weller is a better songwriter and guitarist than Strummer or Jones.Foxton is clearly a Bass player of extreme talent and Buckler is very comparable to Topper...only someone with a name clashBOY1977 would be inclined to argue such a futile point...just like the rest of the motley bunch giving me grief over an opinion,Not one intellengent counter point from any of you opposing...The Clash were Sex Pistols-Lite at best. When they wrote Garageland...it was an accurate description.P.Off!

  • @bloodythinandfast BIG JAM FAN DONT GET OUT OF HAND CLASH WAS NO JOKE

  • @Tomataduplenty1

    Clash were fuckin amazing!

  • Bucklerr!!! :(

  • Buckler misses the drumstick at 2:22. It really flies away. :-)

  • Weller doin' his Townsend vibe !! Is Bolan 'on something' ??

The Jam were great. No wonder Foxton was absolutely gutted when Weller called it a day. Nice to see that they've been working together again recently after such a lengthy time apart.

  • Comment removed

  • @gene101303 answer: no, look up butterfly collector, and ghosts by them for starters

  • L.B.H.

  • great rickenbacker sound..i love it

  • why is this so hq? i mean this was in 1977!

  • @ShAdOw116789

    1977 was great!

  • do all the jam songs sound the same?

  • got to see them in newcastle mayfare...pulled down now...the support band was..''the new harts''i can remember pint glasses flying at one point at the support band..lucky they were plastic.....anyhoo the jam came on and fk me they were some thing else..black suit's and growling lyrics ,good times.

  • @euigi1 short and its black!

  • Just before he put his Mini into a Tree....

  • @RichardHell1959 Actually it was his girlfriend Gloria Jones who drove the mini into a tree.

  • nOT BEEN OUT MUCH THEN...................?

  • Marc's show was something else and even as a ten year old it seemed, well, unusual. Scheduled at a 4:20pm slot to in time for kids to watch after school and before dinner. He knew everyone who was anyone at the time consequently enjoyed some very surprising guest acts, even Bowie on one occasion. Search on Marc Bolan TV for more.

  • Forget the labels, they are The Jam. BTW name one pop group today that could play live like this. Mint.

  • weller wrote these great songs but please dont forget what a great rythem section buckler and foxton were

  • check out the damned and generation x also on the marc bolan show.. he says billy idol is almost as good looking as himself

  • i'm 39 and i live here in Michigan, been a huge Weller fan since I was 14.....this kicks ass!

  • marc bolan took the damned as support in 1977 on tour .always liked him for that

  • love the tune big time.. the ending is mint with Rick ;)

  • Love this song...but it amuses me that if the members of the Jam or their original fans tried this today, they'd most likely break a hip. By that I mean it's a testament to their transcendence through the years!

  • t rex had 1good song alkl the jam songs where mint

  • its weird by the 70s the rock n roll music of the 50s sounded kinda old ht, but even in 2010 this music still sounds great

  • FU(k!g brilliant!!! Damn this was my high school theme song.

  • you would have never thought marc bolan was a mod

  • yeah, but he's not part of the mod revival culture. weller and foxton were part of it.same goes to townshend and marriot, they're mod but not a mod revival lads.bolan now becomes a great glam icon than he would be a mod icon.weller now even described as the MODFATHER which i think foxton better deserved that.

  • @budakblue059 without mocking the Weller, but actually is Steve Meriott's title

  • an amazing group called... JAM

  • he forgot the name of the show

  • hey, how cool is this ! haha fantastic!

  • clash fantastic not moving

  • ROCK ON!

  • amazin' band , worthy of being imitated in attitude ...

  • This video and lots of rare other ones are on the "complete jam" box set its an awsome compliation of videos and rare jam gigs......... the Jam at there best without doubt, I bet rick still cringes when he watches the end, but fuck even the best drummer in the world had to learn !!!

  • 1:35....click reapeatedly........

your Jam will jump at will :]

  • Good stuff! Rare to find footage of this quality. Punk, mod revival - whatever it was it was damn good!

  • glam was george talking to zippy who was a 70s tripper that crashed into bungalzip who fuked up the universe lol

  • funny cause punk kind of got in the way of the progression of glamrock, shame, i love punk and will always be a punk but it would have been intersting to see how glam would have evolved, not the 90s shit acts but the early lot 70-75, five years aint a long time-wve had punk bands for 33 years now, and its took on all kinds of tangents, which is great and what it was supposed to be about in the first fucking place!!!

  • glam did evolve - It became new romantic

  • Just utterly perfect.

  • Dear God. I never knew Marc Bolan had his own show. And I never knew The Jam appeared on it. Amazing. YouTube really brings...um...some amazing shit.

  • @TheGend yes marc did summer is heaven77,

  • @TheGend Thats right,.. and, sadly, thguy died, in a fatal car acident, not long after it got started !! Sucks !!

  • @TheGend

'Marc' was a broundbreaking show for many punk/new wave bands. Jis old mate Bowie premiered Heroes on it in 1977. It was one of my favourite prog's.

  • @TheGend of course he had is own show?

what age are you.........having said that the jam on the marc bolan show was a bit of a surprise! :))))

  • @TheGend what age where you ,where you in the UK i remember the show well.

btw "THE JAM" best band ever!

  • @TheGend hahaha me either , the show must of ruled

  • Det var bättre förr...

  • R.i.P marc bolan.

  • do you like the glam homo look millwall ??

  • "the guy at the start" is Marc Bolan, ignorant piece of sh*t !!! Baha !!!

  • 'Can't dismiss whats gone before... but there's foundations for us to explore'

I think this was the moment Weller cast-off any association with punk music and its tired scene. The Sexs Pistols said 'I wanna Destroy passers by 'caus i wanna be Anarchy'..... Weller says in this 'Whats the point in sayin' Destroy? you'd want a new life for everywhere, All around the world i'v been lookin' for a NEW!'

(out of bondage into a suit the next day)

  • Weller was just trying to re boot the Mod scene which he loved so much , and this was his coming of age in a sea of labour strikes and punk vs prog. rock turmoil of the late 70 s. x

  • baha the guy at the start

  • 5 - 7 years before this show that guy was rockin out some pretty cool tunes, look up marc bolan

  • T. Rex?

  • I love marc to pieces, but he just didnt seem too enthused

  • the drummer looks like jello biafra... kinda

  • bolan and weller, great popstars

  • He used to speak very highly of you as well...

  • your the wanker mate .

  • Right there. That's the guitarist I've aspired to for over 35 years now. F*ckin' genius!

  • they remind me a bit of the who
