@dateniceboys Because Ashley has more mature lyrics and more range in her voice than Taylor. Not hating on Taylor, but I want Taylor to put that voice in places we never seen, a higher range. Not just bubbly pop/country songs all the time, which unfortunately she gets labeled as, she needs to broaden her core fan base to older ages and not tweenies who are obsessed with her. I'm a casual fan, this newest album with Mean, and Back to Dec. is a step in that direction.

The reason she isn't very popular is because the record company didn't want to release her debut album until she had a Top 20 single. The closest she got was #37. Too bad, they crushed what would have been a fantastic career.

I can tell you exactly why Taylor Swift got picked instead of her at the time and became popular fast, because she has a better voice. Ashley Monroe has a great voice if she'd keep the whining sound and control her vocals. She sounds good, but she wasn't good enough at the time and Taylor's writing was fresh and new at the time. Ashley has true country writing, but it sounds just like the old stuff and they weren't looking for it. They wanted new and contemparary.
