Thank you so much for the insight. There aren't many 747 cockpit videos of the airline which you are in. Are you currently flying the 777? There aren't many 747's left in Singapore
When I was 17 I took some flying lessons. Then I took a few tests and I got a flying license. And then I got a job flying for an airline. The airline gave me a a uniform and shiny wings to wear on my shirt.
I think its called a ILS landing. They get the ILS frequency of the runway and enter it into their nav radio which basically tells the plane to do a certain glide slop. The pilot then deactivates the autopilot and they fly the last few hundred feet or so to touchdown.
The reference altitude for the callouts during approach is the altitude of the main landing gears AGL (above ground level).
But to clarify potential misunderstandings, the callouts are generated by the GPWS (Ground Proximity Warning System) which is always active. When the gear is retracted the GPWS creates audible warnings whenever the aircraft approaches the ground while not configured for a safe landing.
The altitude above ground is measured by the radio altmimeters from 0 to 2500ft.
I've read what you posted and watched the video again and I know what you're talking about. The sound which is like hitting speed bumps is actually the nose wheel riding over the center line lights of the runway (white) and taxiway (green).
I don't know what noise you're talking about before take off but I might be able to explain the sound during landing. The higher pitch whining sound at touchdown is the speedbrakes/spoilers lever moving to UP position. The low pitch growling noise is the reverse thrust from the engines.
From this comment it'll be safe to assume you are not an airline pilot.
The First Officer (in this case, me) had his hands on the control column and the thrust levers. I was flying the plane. I did the landing (ie. I moved the ailerons, elevators, rudders & stabilizer trim) and I controlled the thrust.
DAMN I WASN'T WATCHING CAREFULLY!!! yeah i saw you land the plane nicely done... jheezz what was i thinking.... i thought the captain had control of the plane and you were controlling the thrust levers X( AHHHH dang it!
Yeah I am planning gain PPl at flight school then go back to workforce save double that cost for CPL and will do that in university better for employment, hope so. Anyway thanks for being my guide and hope one day u will be my cap (huh)
I was the pilot on that flight. The guy holding my camera was the relief pilot.
Unless you are travelling in first or business class you are not likely going to talk to the pilots in flight. It's all because of security requirements after 9/11. The cockpit door remains locked in flight. The pilots only come out for "physiological" needs.
you're probably right. All that happened >2 years ago with words coming of the mouth of someone I know personally who just happened to be Singaporean.
Yes, they are forbidden and that's a stupid exageration, because a camera with a memory stick or memory card does not interfere with the navigation systems. People beyond the regulations should study electromagnetic theory and the frequencies most critical for those systems. And certainly, a camera has in reasonable terms a zero emission of radiofrequencies. Otherwise, most of these videos ended in an air disaster.
Yes, but the reason why the crew asks for electonic devices to be switched off during criticals phases of the flight is because they want the passengers attention to be focused in the crew in case of an emergency. You're using your camera and the aircraft suddenly veers off the runway, and you hit the camera in your eye, for example. Well, If the crew hasn't told you to turn it off and not use it, it becomes their fault, got it ? Same goes with tray tables, seat backs, seat-belts...

filipinoboy147 3 years ago
747-800 can autoland yes. You cant see the LOC and APP button, but those are used for it. (On an ILS Runway)
Garbitch 3 years ago
747-800's don't fly yet. They are still in proto-type form. The first flyable model has not been created yet however, this may be the 747-400.

This IS a -400. Just look at the title.

Yeah, sorry, forgot about that. Just wanted to say that this is NOT -800 and the 747-800 is not even in service yet.

Yes. Almost all modern jets have the capability to land itself.
